Characters in The Pledge

    Florence Nightingale

Angel of Mercy

The Berserker Class Servant from Chaldea, Florence Nightingale is one of the five/six direct survivors of Arjuna Alter's remaking of the world following the attack on the Wandering Sea by Beast VII/The Alien God. Being the only one still conscious when arriving in the future, her appearance dragging along Gudao, Hans Christen Andersen, Avicebron, and Robin Hood marks a turning point.

For better or for worse is still unknown.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Defied; while every other member of her party lost at least one limb, Nightingale not only made it out of the battle for the Wandering Sea with all her limbs intact, but in relatively good condition for someone who was evidently on the frontlines the entire battle.
  • Combat Medic: Its Nightingale, so natch
  • Determinator: The only explanation as to how she was capable of surviving the attack on the Wandering Sea, likely combined with her A+ rank Luck from being Born Lucky, notably, it is due to her intervention that Gudao is still alive, apparently. She even pushed herself long enough to make contact with Ozpin before finally putting down her patients.
  • Hope Bringer: The Nurse of Steel manages to lift the spirits of Ironwood, Glynda, and Ozpin by using her Noble Phantasm, Nightingale Pledge. Interestingly, this wasn't even her intent, she was just using it to purge the poison of Beast VII.
  • Last-Name Basis: So far, everyone who meets her and knows her name calls her Nightingale, rather than Florence.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: A common theme among the survivors of the attack, but Nightingale seems to be dealing with it the best out of those who are currently in this state, compared to Hans' lock-up upon recalling it, and Cu Chulainn becoming a drunk

    Hans Christian Andersen

Author of Legend

A Caster Class Servant from Chaldea, Hans Christen Andersen is one of the five/six direct survivors of Arjuna Alter's remaking of the world following the attack on the Wandering Sea by Beast VII/The Alien God.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Hans lost one of his legs. Interestingly, despite Servants having a Healing Factor, he has not regrown the leg, likely due to the next trope.
  • Artificial Limbs: Hans had a replacement leg made for him, and it was given to him when he woke up.
  • It's All My Fault: Hans believes that the fall of the Wandering Sea was his fault for his staunch refusal to give Kiara Sessyouin a Power-Up, until it was too late, when he got shot and she sacrificed herself so that he could survive.
  • Secret-Keeper: when Hans encounters Blake, he is able to easy pinpoint that she is a Faunus, either due to Ozpin having knowledge of this, and sharing it, or his own incredible powers of observation.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Arguably to worst hit of the survivors by this, given he was blocking the memories of it ntil reminded, and literally went in a combination of shock and hyperventilation upon remembering the attack.

    Robin Hood

Faceless King

An Archer Class Servant from Chaldea, Robin Hood is one of the five/six direct survivors of Arjuna Alter's remaking of the world following the attack on the Wandering Sea by Beast VII/The Alien God.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Lost one of his arms in the assault, and then got a replacement arm.
  • Badass Teacher: Robin Hood is apparently going to be Beacon's Survival course instructor, and he's certainly Badass

    Avicebron

The Light of Wisdom

A Caster Class Servant from Chaldea, Avicebron is one of the five/six direct survivors of Arjuna Alter's remaking of the world following the attack on the Wandering Sea by Beast VII/The Alien God.

  • Action Survivor: Compared to other Servants, Avicebron's personal combat abilities make Hans look like a badass, yet he was one of the last four Servants standing by the time Arjuna Alter remade the world, and even held off the prolonged assault of Kieri Kotomine and the Alien God's forces while Arjuna Alter was preparing, Nightingale was treating the wounded, and Cu Chulainn was busy fighting said army in a different area. It's safe to say he's at least earned this title.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Notably the one hit both the worst by this, and the one it had the least effect on. He lost every limb except for a single arm during the attack on the Wandering Sea, yet since all his limbs are Artificial Limbs anyway, he just needed new ones and he was good as new.
  • Badass Teacher: He's Beacon's math instructor.
  • Hopeless with Tech: As fitting of a Magi, he's fairly poor at using a scroll, and instead carries around a binder for his notes that he needs to share with others. Interestingly the scroll seems to be his biggest problem, as he can work an elevator just fine.
  • Spotting the Thread: As the only actual Magus of the team, he's also the best as sensing magical disturbances for example, those caused by Mandricardio's presence floating around Weiss, but he isn't able to pinpoint exactly who or what it is.

    Gudao Fujimaru
The Last Master

The last Master of Chaldea, Gudao Fujimaru is a legend, having solved several cases that other Magi would have found impossible to solve. He is one of the five/six direct survivors of Arjuna Alter's remaking of the world following the attack on the Wandering Sea by Beast VII/The Alien God

  • Ambiguously Human: It is highly questionable if Gudao counts as human anymore. It's later said by Robin that he's become something akin to a Faerie/A living Heroic Spirit.
  • An Arm and a Leg: He lost an arm and a leg during the attack on the Wandering Sea.
  • Badass Teacher: He's set to become Beacon's Combat Strategy instructor, and seeing as how he's faced down Beast I with his bare fists, fought his way through dozens of singularities, the seven Lostbelts, killed multiple gods and thwarted the plans of many an Eldritch Abomination, its safe to say he's quite the Badass.
  • Eye Scream: In addition to losing two limbs, he also lost an eye, and now wears an eyepatch rather than get a artificial replacement.
  • I Will Find You: The target, by literally every Servant still left alive and on the throne. He's the one they've been waiting for to return.
  • Lost Language: Turns out his habit of writing Chaldea's mission reports in his native Japanese bit quite a few people on Remnant in the ass, as since Remnant only has one Language, English, Ironwood was unable to have the journals he's written deciphered.
  • Quantity vs. Quality: An advocate for a balance between Quantity and Quality, but leans more towards Quantity, fitting for the man who once had over a hundred Servants at his beck and call.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Subverted. While his impression of the students at Beacon aren't high, he then reminds himself because he's used to Servants and their incredible shattering powers. Thus tries to avoid his skewed perceptions and acknowledges while the kids aren't Servants, they still faced the Grimm which are 'Demonic Beasts' and tougher than the average person/
