    Mary & Warren Ford

Mary & Warren Ford

Played By: Susse Budde (Mary), N/A (Warren)

The mother and father of James "Sawyer" Ford. Warren killed Mary and himself after they were both conned by Anthony Cooper, who was working under the alias "Tom Sawyer." Mary engaged in adultery and facilitated their being robbed by Cooper, prompting Warren to kill her and then himself.

  • Character Death: They both die in Warren's Murder-Suicide.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Downplayed; Sawyer rarely speaks of them, but despite Mary cheating on Warren and Warren's Murder-Suicide, Sawyer only blames Cooper for his parents' deaths and doesn't have a negative word to say about either of them beyond an idle comment that Warren "never got a chance" to beat him.
  • Death by Origin Story: Their deaths essentially create Sawyer, leading him down the path of becoming a Con Man.
  • Mama Bear: Mary's sole appearance has her desperately hiding her son from her furious, armed husband.
  • Murder-Suicide: Committed by Warren, who shoots Mary and then himself...in front of a hiding Sawyer.
  • Posthumous Character: Both of them are long-dead by the series' beginning.
  • The Unseen: Warren. Only his boots are seen, except for a brief photograph which depicts him.

    Uncle Doug

Uncle Doug

Played By: Colby French

"What's done is done."

Sawyer's uncle. At his parents' funeral Doug finds him writing a letter and tells him that although he should want revenge on the man who did this, he should move on with his life and made him promise he wouldn't finish the letter. He says "What's done is done."

  • Ambiguously Related: It's not clear if he's Warren's brother (in which case, his surname would be Ford) or Mary's.
  • Character Death: A brain tumor strikes him down off-screen.
  • Convenient Terminal Illness: Doug dies from his aforementioned brain tumor, leaving Sawyer on his own.
  • Nice Guy: Doug dissuaded Sawyer from pursuing vengeance, showing great sympathy to the boy and gently trying to guide him onto a better path.
  • Posthumous Character: He died of a brain tumor before the series began, only making a single flashback appearance.
  • Promotion to Parent: For Sawyer.

    Hibbs

Hibbs

Played By: Robert Patrick

"We both know you ain't the killing type."

A past associate of James "Sawyer" Ford, who worked with him on the Tampa Job. Hibbs provided Sawyer with the information that the real Sawyer was a man named Frank Duckett who was residing in Australia. Hibbs was lying, however, using Sawyer to kill Duckett because he owed Hibbs money.

  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Despite being played by a pretty big name in Sci-fi and having had quite an impact on Sawyer's life, he never appears again.
  • Evil Counterpart: Hibbs is similar to Sawyer in many ways, having a manipulative side,a Southern accent, a penchant for nicknames (he calls Sawyer "Sawbucks"), a less-than-reputable lifestyle, and a rugged charm. However, Hibbs lacks any of Sawyer's redeeming qualities or his conscience; he plays Sawyer like a fiddle to get an innocent man murdered.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He pretends that he's giving Sawyer information about the real Sawyer to make them even for a past job gone wrong, but he's actually tricking him into doing his dirty work.
  • Karma Houdini: Hibbs gets away scot-free with his manipulation of Sawyer and indirect responsibility for the death of Frank Duckett.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He ably manipulates Sawyer (himself a great manipulator) into killing Frank Duckett.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever the 'Tampa job' was, which left Sawyer very angry with him. All we know is that Sawyer promised to kill Hibbs if he ever saw him again.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Hibbs only appears once, but his manipulations are why Sawyer was in Australia, and the guilt over the murder Hibbs manipulated him into plays heavily into Sawyer's character in the early parts of the series.

    Frank Duckett

Frank Duckett

Played By: Jeff Perry

"It'll come back around."

An American running a shrimp stand in Australia. Sawyer was told by his associate Hibbs that Duckett was the original Sawyer. However, it turned out that Hibbs had tricked Sawyer, and Duckett merely owed Hibbs money, and because of this, Hibbs wanted Duckett dead, and thus Sawyer was conned into killing him. Just before he died, Duckett told Sawyer, "It'll come back around."

  • Nice Guy: He was in a bad spot and owed money to the very shady Hibbs, but otherwise he seemed like a friendly, warm fellow.
  • Posthumous Character: Sawyer kills him just before leaving Australia.

    Gordy

Gordy

Played By: Kevin Dunn

"You know, a tiger doesn't change his stripes, James. You're a con man, just like me."

Sawyer's partner and Sawyer was indebted to him. He was having Sawyer perform a "long con" on Cassidy. He threatened to kill both Sawyer and Cassidy if he didn't go through with the con on her.

  • Con Man: Like Sawyer, except he's more of a planner. He chooses the mark and does the research before Sawyer moves in.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Gordy talks shop with Sawyer for a moment in a pretty casual tone, but quickly resorts to threats.
  • Fat Bastard: Part of the reason he's a planner is because he's an overweight schlubby guy.
  • Jerkass: He's crass and uncouth, referring to Cassidy as a 'bitch'.
  • Karma Houdini: Gordy never sees any comeuppance, and presumably gets his share of Cassidy's money.
