The protagonist of the manga, and a high school student that tries to keep others at arm's length, he eventually finds himself as the pilot of Getter-1.
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Between his parents committing suicide and his treatment at school, his backstory here has resulted in a more sad and unsociable character than his previous incarnations:
- His father was abusive.
- One day, he came home to find his parents had hanged themselves.
- He was a massive outcast at school.
- Finally, shortly before he entered the Eagle Machine, he had to watch Michiru, one of the few people who treated him like a normal person, get bisected during the first Unevolved Lifeform's attack.
- Safety in Indifference: Ryoma is detached and aloof because he's lost so much in life, from his parents to Michiru, that he doesn't want to become attached.
- Shoulders of Doom: Getter-1 has large, round shoulders, and they can open up to fire smaller green Getter Beams.

- The Lost Lenore: Becomes this to Ryoma, as her death continues to haunt him throughout the story.
