    Annie

Dodger's estranged mother, who abandoned him as a puppy. Years later, she tries to reconnect with him after he falls out with the gang.

  • Action Mom: Helps Dodger and the gang fight off Sykes's gangster friends.
  • Calling the Old Woman Out: Dodger does this to her for abandoning him as a puppy.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: A rare female example; she was forced to abandon Dodger to protect him from Duke; it clearly broke her heart to do so.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her life seems to have come out of a Greek tragedy. It's implied she's lived on the streets since she was a puppy; not to mention her mate Duke is an abusive fuck-off.
  • Face Death with Dignity: After getting fatally shot by Moretti, she apologizes to Dodger for abandoning him before dying.
  • Good Parents: Tried to be this to Dodger, before being forced to abandon him. Is later this towards Dodger's younger siblings.
  • Mama Bear: Oh. so. much. This mama dog would do ANYTHING to protect her pups.
  • Sorry That I'm Dying: Apologizes to Dodger for being forced to leave him, before she dies of her bullet wounds.

    Duke

Dodger's estranged father.

  • Abusive Dad: If Annie's talk with Dodger is any indication, Duke would have turned on Dodger if she had stayed with him.
  • Disappeared Dad: Dodger never knew about Duke, and blamed Annie for not allowing him to look after him. Although given his attitude, it's probably better that Dodger never met him at all.
  • Domestic Abuse: His relationship with Annie has shades of this, particularly when it comes to physical and emotional abuse.
  • Jerkass: Really, no other way to describe him.
  • Never My Fault: Invokes this during his conversation with Dodger, stating that Annie likes to paint herself as a victim of the things she has been put through, never mind that he is partly responsible for her misery.

    Nancy and Charlie

Two street dogs and Dodger's childhood friends.

Tropes relating to both

  • Childhood Friends: Both were friends with Dodger before he moved in with Fagin's gang.
  • Shout-Out: Fittingly enough, both characters names are inspired by OliverTwist; Nancy shares her name with Bill Sykes's lover Nancy, and Charlie is named after Charlie Bates, a member of Fagin's gang.

Tropes relating to Nancy

  • Babies Ever After: She and Dodger have a litter of puppies together.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Dodger had a crush on her when he was a puppy, but drifted apart when he left for Fagin's gang. The two reunite years later.
  • Nice Girl: Friendly, goodhearted and generally sweet-natured.

Tropes relating to Charlie

  • Blue Is Heroic: He sports a blue bandana.
  • Missing Mom: Much like Dodger, his mother abandoned him when he was a puppy.
    • Raised by Dudes: Unlike Dodger, however, he at least had his father and grandfather to take care of him.
  • Nice Guy: Charlie is a very amiable dog.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When Rita confides in him that her being too strict drove Billy away, he says this almost verbatim to make her feel better.

    Ruscoe

The son of Roscoe and nephew of De Soto, who is leading the charge in a gang war between the street dogs.

  • Dead Guy Junior: His name is one letter off being similar to that of his father's.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He affects a chummy, if somewhat smug, demeanor when he interacts with Dodger.
  • Hate Sink: Easily one of the most hateable characters in the story.
