the Edirr

[T]he Edirr, who could be trusted to bring imagination and enthusiasm to any endeavor.

The Edirr are one of the lesser of the nine major Kencyr houses.

The Edirr often have issues with their neighbors the Coman.

The Edirr are known for being imaginative, fun, and teasing, and for producing an endless stream of twins.

    As a house
  • Alliterative Family: E names—Essien and Essiar of Edirr. Names beginning with the same letter as their house's name—Alliterative Names—are very common among Kencyr Highborn.
  • Always Identical Twins (Exaggerated): Twins are fairly common among the Kencyrath in general, but the way the Edirr produce an endless stream of identical twins is definitely unique.
Jame: Do the Edirr always do everything in twos?
Rue: More often than not. The Edirr produce so many twins that it saves trouble.
  • Animal Motif: The falcon, or hawk
  • Fun Personified: The Edirr are fun, imaginative, and quirky. They're not too involved in the power struggles of the other houses, though they tease them on a regular basis—and themselves too; they don't take themselves too seriously. They know they're a small house, and seem ok with that.
  • Refuge in Audacity: They're not afraid to do this. During the Winter War, they run around, waving their flag (the one they're supposed to hide) around, chanting. "We're the Edirr and we don't care. Come and catch us if you dare!"
  • The Runt at the End: The Coman and Edirr are both small houses, with keeps at the end of the Riverland.

Highborn

    Essien & Essiar

Essien & Essiar of Edirr

Lords Edirr of Kestrie

"The Edirr twins will be swayed by their whimsy,"
Adric

The joint Lords Edirr, who share the power

  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences
The Edirr twins sat beside a brazier in their tent, discussing women and, as usual in private, finishing each other's sentences.
  • Siblings Share the Throne: They're both Lord Edirr. This is standard practice in their House, which runs strongly to twins; their heirs are briefly introduced: another set of twin boys.
  • Single-Minded Twins
  • Theme Twin Naming: Only the last two letters of their names differ. It should be noted, however, that alternative names—especially ones that alternate with the house name—are pretty common.
  • Trickster Twins: They don't have enough screen-time to really develop it, but they definitely have a streak of this. At the High Council in Dark of the Moon, they vote against enough, negating their votes, just to annoy the other lords. In The Sea of Time we hear about them leading raids against the Coman, just for the hell of it.

Kendar

    the Horse-master

Tentir's horse-master

A randon at Tentir, and the horse-master
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He's only ever called the horse-master or the master
  • The Mentor: To Jame. She is not a natural with horses at all, but he helps her with Bel and Death's-head, and she gradually learns.
  • Secret-Keeper: He knows about Bel and Death's-head, helps Jame care for them, and doesn't tell
