Awesome / The Amazing Spider-Man (2018)

  • Issue #7:
    • Boomerang and Peter are fighting off numerous villains who want the price on Boomerang's head in the Bar With No Name and doing a fairly good job of holding them off. This is particularly impressive as Peter doesn't have his usual gear and is deliberately avoiding use of his more overt powers so as not to blow his identity. Peter also points out how he and Boomerang make a surprisingly good team despite this being their first time fighting side by side.
    • Boomerang takes a blast from the Scorcher that was aimed at Peter, itself an amazing moment for Boomerang. Peter then decides to bluff the villains by telling them that if they don't surrender all of their weapons will immediately backfire. This distracts them long enough for Boomerang to throw an explosive and allow the two to escape.

  • Issue #12 has Spider-Man and Jameson trapped in a "Jonah Museum" where they are being attacked by Spider-Slayer, LMDs and the Scorpion. Spider-Man remembers how the Spider-Slayers work and gets the remote to Jameson, who commands them to attack the LMDs. This leaves Spider-Man to deal with the Scorpion whom he defeats after a fairly challenging fight.

  • Issue #13:
    • The villain behind Spider-Man and Jameson's abduction is revealed to be Frederick Foswell Jr, the son of the deceased Frederick Foswell Sr. aka the Big Man and one of Jameson's employees at the Daily Bugle. Inspired by Jameson's original vendetta against Spider-Man, Frederick Jr. is convinced that his father was framed as the Big Man, that Spider-Man is responsible and that the Web-Slinger has either blackmailed or brainwashed Jameson into taking his side. This leads to two great moments from Jameson.
      • First, Jonah tells Frederick that while his father was a good man, he was a criminal and was indisputably the Big Man. Jonah also takes responsibility for Frederick Sr's relapse into crime, admitting that he applied too much pressure on the elder Foswell to stay straight, wrongly thinking it was the only way to to keep him on the good path.
      • Frederick refuses to believe Jameson's "lies" and tries to kill both him and Spider-Man with the same gun that was used to kill his father. Jameson then commands one of the Spider-Slayers to subdue Frederick.
    • This then leads to Spider-Man's own awesome moment. When his first attempt to kill them fails, Frederick activates the self-destruct sequence in the giant robot replica of the Big Man he was piloting. Spider-Man uses all his strength to throw the robot out of the building, saving all three of them.
    • Jameson finally makes it to the award ceremony Fisk is holding for him where he will only receive the award if Spider-Man is also there to present it to him. Jameson arrives without Spider-Man and proceeds to call out Fisk for the criminal he is, while admitting to his own wrongdoings as mayor, a journalist and a father.
I was a megalomaniac who could barely care for his own family and who spent most of his career hounding a poor kid who was just trying to do a little good in the world. That obsession cost me everything... including the woman I loved. So you think Spider-Man would come here because he owes me? Well, news flash, buddy — he doesn't owe me a damn thing. I owe him. But even if that wasn't the case, he still wouldn't be here — because Spider-Man is a hero. And you, Fisk? You're nothing but a crook. Enjoy your moment of power, because I can promise you — it won't last. When you fall, he'll be the one standing over you. And hopefully I'll be there to have a good laugh at your expense. Until then, though, the chicken in this place is overrated!
      • Throughout Jonah's tirade, Fisk can do nothing but glare at him impotently.

  • Issue #14: Aunt May gets quite a few.
    • Brett Alstettler, the attorney of the late Jay Jameson is having dinner with May and explaining her financial situation to her. When Brett tries to make a move on her, May sees through his attempts to take advantage of her grief and promptly shoots him down.
    • As may is leaving the restaurant, she sees two punks harassing a homeless guy. She scares them away using a holographic projector Peter invented. She then takes the homeless guy back to the restaurant for a meal and has Brett pay for it.
    • The Rhino smashes through the restaurant, and then moments later Taskmaster and Black Ant show up to ask which direction he went. May refuses to tell them. Thankfully, Spider-Man shows up and saves her, but defying a villain like that takes guts when you consider her age and lack of fighting capabilities.

  • Issue #15:
    • The last issue ended with Black Ant shooting at Rhino and the blast hitting the restaurant May and several other people were in. As Spider-Man desperately searches for his aunt, Taskmaster tries to shoot him from behind. A very pissed off Spider-Man takes down the villain in one hit, wraps him up in his own cape and tosses him out of the building on his ass.
    • When Spider-Man finally does find May, she is not only alive, but has taken charge of the situation and managed to keep the patrons alive. Peter's narration acknowledges that for all he talks about his uncle, it was his aunt who taught him about putting others first and never giving up.

  • Issue #19:
    • The Vulture spins a tall tale about how the Gibbon went down fighting against the hunter robots while the Vulture took one of them apart to figure out their weakness. Spider-Man — who actually witnessed what really happenednote  — calls out the Vulture for a liar, only for the villain to produce a piece of the hunter robot. The Vulture then gives a Rousing Speech that rallies the other prisoners to his side. As despicable as he is, one can't help but respect the Vulture's cunning.
    • How Felicia carries out her and Billy's escape. At first, the guard thinks she's trying to pull a seduction routine on him and tells her it won't work. However, Felicia reveals that she is actually using her "bad luck" powers on him. Cue a snow leopard breaking out of its malfunctioning cage and mauling the guard to death.
    • We get yet another example of how dangerous Spider-Man can be when he delivers a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on a robot whose pilot is particularly cocky.
You think this is fun?! You wanna hunt something?! You wanna kill something so bad?! Well why don't you try it out on me now?
  • Issue #19 (HU) shows that despite having a Restraining Bolt, Curt Connors can still go Papa Wolf when his son is on danger.
    • First he not only successfully tracks down Taskmaster, he blackmails the mercenary into helping him by poisoning his drink and only promising to give him the antidote if Taskmaster helps him. We later learn that the poison wasn't really lethal, meaning Connors was able to bluff Taskmaster.
    • When Taskmaster points out that the only way he can get back into Kraven's game is by bringing back another Animal-Themed Superbeing, Connors and Taskmaster head to the sewers where Vermin is keeping a bunch of people prisoner. At first, Connors is unable to fight back and even takes the beating Vermin is giving him, viewing it as payback for his own crimes. But then he thinks of his son and this gives him the strength to fight back.
  • Issue #25: While Spider-Man is occupied looking for Dr. Connors, MJ and Carlie attend a Fantastic Four stage show starring MJ's former co-star Melanie Daniels. The show gets crashed by Electro II who takes Melanie hostage. MJ and Carlie then come up with a plan that allows them to defeat Electro and save Melanie without Spider-Man's help. This involves Carlie distracting Electro while MJ — wearing an Invisible Woman outfit just like Melanie's — sneaks on stage and allows the real Melanie to escape. Then just as Electro realizes she's been duped, Carlie and MJ signal the stage manager to open a water tank and short out the villain.
  • Issue #38: Jameson sees footage of Spider-Man robbing a bank. But rather than leap to conclusions, Jameson proves how genuine his new leaf is and insists on seeing if there is more to the situation first. And he's proven right when it turns out that the bank Spider-Man robbed is a front for the Maggia who were using it to store stolen SHIELD technology. Jameson even manages to save Spider-Man from them.
  • Issue #49 has Peter and Norman teaming up to take down a Juggernaut-powered Sin-Eater together. Invoking how he defeated the Juggernaut the first time, Peter convinces Norman to use the compression generator for an EMP machine to liquify the ground, burying the Sin-Eater. Peter even manages to keep the Sin-Eater from shooting Norman, just long enough for the latter to carry out their plan.
  • Issue #53 (LR): Whatever else one can say about the Sin-Eater, rigging a trap to fire a gun at Morlun is quite impressive.
