* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: ''Red Hood'' is one of the most popular titles of ''ComicBook/DCRebirth'', a complete turnaround from the ''New 52'' era, where it was considered mediocre at best.

This is written as a knee jerk reaction. A Broken Base requires a sustained conflict.

*** The replacement of Roy and Joker's Daughter in favor of Artemis and Bizarro for Comicbook/DCRebirth. Some think a change is sorely needed after years of SeasonalRot, while others don't think that Creator/ScottLobdell can effectively write those characters.

Uncertain Audience is "when producers have not positioned a certain enough target for their work's release". The entire point of the New 52 initiative was to reboot DC's continuity to attract readers who were unfamiliar with the company's characters. Since this entry only states that Red Hood's new characterization displeased older fans, it's just a case of They Changed It Now It Sucks.

* UncertainAudience: With Creator/ScottLobdell ignoring Jason's entire history and eschewing his characterization from [[WesternAnimation/BatmanUnderTheRedHood the popular film adaptation of 'Under the Red Hood']], there's a question of exactly who is this book written for. The book's anemic sales and poor reception seem to further exacerbate the problem, with seemingly the only thing keeping it afloat being [[ProtectionFromEditors Scott Lobdell's close ties to editor-in-chief Bob Harras]].

** Jason coming back to Gotham, taking over the Iceberg Lounge, becoming a Don and messing with Batman? It would have been a great CharacterRerailment arc for Jason for those who like to see him return to his antagonistic ways if it wasn't quickly rushed. Albeit the ''Year of the Villain'' tie in may had something to do with it getting cut short.
** The entire run could be seen as this, because the concept isn't bad. Two former sidekicks who have had falling outs with their respective mentors eventually coming across each other. Roy Harper (at least before the ''ComicBook/New52'') had been something of a counselor to troubled younger heroes like Damage and he could have provided moral guidance to Jason who would balk at Roy's attempts to reach him but slowly go on the path towards a believable redemption arc. Unfortunately, we did not get that.

* MisBlamed: Scott Lobdell's most die-hard fans are eager to blame editorial, or other writers, for writing missteps. However, multiple interviews confirm that Lobdell's Rebirth run (which was decently well-received in relation to his body of work as a whole) had its direction, the roster make-up, and even some of the creative decisions tightly controlled by editorial. Lobdell himself has admitted that he often doesn't bother planning story arcs in advance, or doing research on characters that he's writing.

** Starfire's treatment as a nymphomaniac with the [[QuestionableConsent memory of a goldfish]] drew no shortage of backlash. See UnfortunateImplications for more information.
** Scott Lobdell's not-so-subtle implication that he viewed Jason as a self-inserted "flawed man seeking redemption" disgusted many fans, given Lobdell's repeated history of sexually harassing women. It's even worse when considering that Jason was written as a KarmaHoudini.

Both examples are about works that preceded this one. Ergo, there is no hindsight.

* HilariousInHindsight:
** In Comicbook/KingdomCome we were introduced to an older version of Lian (Roy's daughter from the old continuity) who went by the alias Red Hood, written ''long'' before Roy and Jason interacted much if at all. This could also count as HeartwarmingInHindsight, if Lian is ever born in this continuity it's entirely possible that Jason, who has now teamed up with her father, will be a prominent figure in her life and would actually give her a reason to take up the name.
** Many readers note that Jason comes across as an UnintentionallyUnsympathetic "hero" who is often written like an angstier pastiche of [[Comicbook/{{Nightwing}} Dick Grayson]], which was the original reason voters called in to kill him in the first place. Further exemplified with Comicbook/DCRebirth, in which Jason going undercover to take down a villainous organization, something that [[Comicbook/{{Nightwing}} Dick Grayson]] has already been doing to [[Comicbook/{{Grayson}} much critical acclaim]]. Even more hilarious after ComicBook/NightwingRebirth's 50th issue where Dick took a DarkerAndEdgier attitude and fans can't help compare him to Jason.

* [[ItsNotSupposedToWinOscars It's Not Supposed to Win Eisners]]: A common sentiment among readers is that they're [[JustHereForGodzilla only reading for flashy action scenes]], one which Creator/ScottLobdell shares.

As can be seen here and here, Red Hood has been regarded as one of Rebirth's best books. It's obvious that the work has flaws and won't be able to please all readers, but the positive reception makes it clear that it does not qualify for So Okay Its Average or its related tropes. Also removing one-sided complaining from Broken Base. Deleting misuse of Fandom Rivalry (this trope requires different fandoms. The examples are just Robin/Jason Todd fans disagreeing over which stories are good or bad). Both entries of He Panned It Now He Sucks are too general, to the point that they describe the trope's definition instead of listing an actual example.

While there are some who admit to liking the new outfit, ''nobody'' likes his new buzz haircut. It's kinda telling when Jason's old haircut was brought back after a few issues and various artists try his best to salvage the outfit to positive reviews.

* ArcFatigue:
** Jason continues to be hung up on his death and resentful towards the Batfamily, bringing it up in every issue in the ''Rebirth'' series, even during Artemis's DayInTheLimelight. It's even more jarring when compared to books he guest-stars in, where he's portrayed as having undergone progress.
** The "Smart Bizarro" arc ran for 12 issues at glacial pacing, to the detriment of Artemis and Jason's plotlines.
* AssPull: Wingman's identity being [[spoiler: Willis Todd.]] While there was foreshadowing to him being alive in the issues leading up to the reveal, all of it pointed towards [[spoiler:Solidary]] being his identity, up to his obsession with Red Hood and knowledge about his past. There was absolutely no foreshadowing or explanation as to how he received his training, or why Jason didn't recognize him as his (unmasked) limo driver during his "Prince of Gotham" phase.
* AuthorsSavingThrow: Crux, who was originally intended to be the fourth member of the Outlaws, has a [[spoiler:HeelFaceTurn near the end of the run]] which could be considered this.

*** Jason's new "Outlaw" outfit, as of issue #25. Many still mourn the loss of the more traditional leather jacket and helmet worn until then, seeing it as an iconic look for the character. The fact that it has become his "main" outfit in later storylines only continues to further divide the base.

* FanonDiscontinuity:
** The issue 0 revealing that the Joker basically orchestrated Jason's becoming Robin and his death (as in even Jason finding his mom). Suffice to say, many don't like it, since the Joker comes off as a Villain Sue, and out of character, and outright ignore it. As of Comicbook/DCRebirth, it is no longer canon.
** Same said for Arsenal's new backstory of being a snotty child prodigy with a neglectful alcoholic dad.
** Jason's interactions with the Batfamily are often ignored by most Batman fans, due to how out-of-character the others seem. Notably, this even applies to many fans that like Jason who feel that while the idea behind the series was promising, the execution was poorly handled, rushed, and relied on telling instead of showing.

Given that Scott Lobdell created Harvest, this also counts as SelfDeprecatingHumor.
* TaintedByThePreview: The infamous first issue turned ''many'' people off from the series and years later is still one of the first things to surface anytime this book is talked about. * TheyChangedItNowItSucks:
** James Tynion IV's changes to the series status quo were heavily criticized and promptly swept under the rug after Lobdell's return to the book.
** Roy Harper's new backstory. Many fans were unhappy that his Navajo upbringing was made a minor element on Roy's characterization and that his birth father was retconned from a forest ranger who died in a fire when Roy was three to a neglectful alcoholic that died much later.
** Starfire, whose famous InnocentFanserviceGirl and AllLovingHero character changed to an EthicalSlut who quickly forgot her friends had fans up in arms against her new portrayal.
** Many don't like Red Hood as just another generic UnintentionallyUnsympathetic "bad boy" anti-hero with Creator's Pet qualities and preferred him as a tragic and nuanced Batman antagonist.

* UnfortunateImplications: Kori's line in the first issue where she says that she doesn't remember anything about her time on Earth, which many readers took to mean that she has the memory of a goldfish and [[QuestionableConsent made the idea that she could consent]] pretty dubious. In general, Starfire's character, especially the way her non-emotional promiscuity has been depicted.
