* ABirthdayNotABreak: One of the train passengers that was killed by the aswang in the first episode's opening scene was murdered on the night of her birthday.

* NoHistoricalFiguresWereHarmed: Mayor Santamaria's design (both in the original comics and the series) is pretty generic Filipino CorruptPolitician, but his stance against crime and the explicit use of the CatchPhrase "change is coming" does suggest a composite of the two last Philippine mayors-turned-Presidents who have projected themselves this way[[note]]that being Joseph Estrada (1998-2001), who resembles Santamaria closely, and the incumbent (2016-2022), Rodrigo Duterte[[/note]].

* DarkSkinnedBlonde: The Wind-people Hannah and Ammie that serve as witnesses on the second episode have silver hair and dark skin.

* FarEastAsianTerrorists: Ramona is implied to be a pro-communist terrorist who used a supernatural ritual after wiping out Colonel Hidalgo and his soldiers [[spoiler:and responsible for summoning Talagbusao]].

* AbhorrentAdmirer: Hank has a celebrity crush on Nova and tags along with Alexandra and the Kambal for the case because he wants to meet her, a reflection of the celebrity worship culture in the Philippines. Downplayed in that outside of almost being a DirtyOldMan, Hank looks pretty decent, actively helps in the case, and [[ChivalrousPervert isn't infatuated with her the whole time]]. * AbusiveParent: [[spoiler:Nova]] in the third episode. [[spoiler:Nova had a illegitimate baby and hated it for ruining her figure for nine months as well as putting her career at risk (as it is highly frowned upon in the Philippines to have a child out of wedlock), and had her friend secretly leave it in the woods to die. When it comes back as a tiyanak, she tricks it into letting her get close enough for her to personally stab it to death, even adding more fake emotion to be extra cruel.]]

* TheCameo: Alexandra's four older brothers and grandfather showed up in episode 5 and in the flashbacks of the final episode.

* CompressedAdaptation: The series takes the first three volumes of the comics (Cases 1-13) and adapts them into six half-hour episodes, linking details and deleting others (for example the first case, The White Lady of Balete Drive had no connection to [[spoiler: Mayor Santamaria, and has a completely different backstory]] in the comics). Specifically Cases 1, 2, and 5-13 were adapted, with 9-12 being told during the cold open flashbacks of each episode.
