* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Late installments of the series increase ShipTease moment between the petite Derpy Hooves and the towering Bulk Biceps, strongly hinting that they're an item.

* AlasPoorYorick: Mocked with the green-haired member of the Dramas[[invoked]] (FanNickname: Watermelody) usually seen carrying around a skull (hopefully made of plastic).

* TeensAreShort: Celestia, Luna, Cinch and Cadence tower over the students, as made especially evident during the "ACADECA" sequence in ''Friendship Games''. Some other adults are shown to be closer in height to the teen cast, however.

* ThereAreNoAdults: Downplayed. There's a good number of adults to be found in the world of ''Equestria Girls'', but apart from school staff, Canter Zoom (a film director) and Vignette Valencia (a public relations manager), there are few adult characters shown in positions of authority. It's particularly evident in the ''Digital Series'' school play arc, where Sunset appears to be handling ''all'' the work in directing and stage managment for said play. The absolute lack of parents is puzzling; the total absence of law enforcement [[spoiler:after the giant fire-demon demolishes the front of the school]] totally boggles the mind.

** The six-to-seven protagonists have been officially called "the Equestria Girls" basically everywhere ever, except the actual movies. And each one is, individually, an "Equestria Girl". The name finally appears in the music video "[[WebAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsDigitalSeries I'm On a Yacht]]", where the characters refer to themselves as "[=EGs=]" and Spike (as part of his AWildRapperAppears act) explicity calls them "Equestria Girls."

** The Equestria Girls often gained UnusualEars, wings (for the pegasi and alicorn), hair resembling tails, an outfit change (made more sparkly, to be specific), and a ThemeMusicPowerUp.
** The villains more or less gets this at the climax.

* TwoTeacherSchool: Canterlot High's only visible staff are Principal Celestia, Vice-Principal Luna, Cheerilee who can be seen writing on a blackboard in a class and who helps Twilight in the library, Granny Smith as a lunch lady, Nurse Heart as the school nurse, and Cranky Doodle as the math teacher. Other than that, there's way more students than these six faculty members.

She had a male love interest in Flash Sentry, but claims in ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsRainbowRocks Rainbow Rocks]]'' she only dated him for popularity and [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial definitely didn't have feelings for him]]. She and Flash have since gotten back together, allegedly [[JustFriends as friends]]. Also starting from ''Rainbow Rocks'', her relationship with Twilight Sparkle, and later the human Twilight, [[RomanticTwoGirlFriendship have been full of subtext]].

** The banished [[EnthrallingSiren sirens]] become a trio of teenagers who are only able to make use of their entrancing magical singing through their pendants. [[spoiler:Once their siren forms are destroyed and their pendants shattered, they lose their ability to even sing properly]].

[[spoiler:Though how [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTheMovie2017 the Storm King’s]] magic got into the human world in ''Spring Breakdown'' is not concretely explained, though given its location it was presumably through the secondary island portal rather than the Canterlot High portal.]]

* WakeUpGoToSchoolSaveTheWorld: What ends up being the premise of the entire movie franchise. Lampshaded by Applejack from time to time.

** A big one is the importance of avoiding PoorCommunicationKills (which sometimes causes problems in [=FiM=] as well). In the first movie, it would have taken ''five minutes max'' for the Humane Five to patch things up between them and expose Sunset Shimmer's manipulations if they had talked to each other face to face about everything. In ''Rainbow Rocks'', Twilight trying to avoid letting everyone down, the Humane Five not talking their issues with the band out with each other at the start (thus letting tension build up), and Sunset's uncertainty of her place in the group and fear of speaking up (especially about the previous problems) [[spoiler:allow the Sirens to [[NearVillainVictory come dangerously close to succeeding]]]].

** "Friendship Games" also drives home that a competition should be done fairly, and that the participants shouldn't carried away. [[spoiler:Sci-Twi causing a RealityBleed that could destroy the human world b/c her school pressured her into trying to use magic to win is just a worst case scenario]].

** Subverted with Sunset Shimmer, who ''really'' [[RealityEnsues has to work to get everyone to trust her]] after all the years of being the school's AlphaBitch. [[EarnYourHappyEnding It all pays off in the end]].

* FisherKingdom: Twilight's arrival in the human world is accompanied by her transformation into a human herself, and Spike the young dragon turns into a puppy dog. Though we don't know if it's a property of the world or of the portal itself.
* {{Fanservice}}: Of the non-sexual variant, the ''Equestria Girls'' franchise usually includes some of the fandom's favorite characters and its intepretations, some of it was even [[AscendedMeme carried on to the main show itself]].

** Neither do humans Twilight and Rainbow Dash in the special ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsSpringBreakdown Spring Breakdown]]'', until Sunset uses her horn to illuminate the cave they are in, allowing them to see Sunset's Pony form and realize what happened. (It's also worth noting that the only reason Sunset knew they were in Equestria was because she realized the "quicksand" they found was just sand covering the portal they later used, and not due to the transformation).
