* DropTheHammer: The mace variety. Snail Mace, Thorn Mace and Violence Razor are all blunt spiky weapons that rely on their weight to inflict damage.

An UpdatedRerelease, ''Mercenary Kings: Reloaded Edition'', with new playable characters Frigg and C-Zar, was released on February 2018 on all major platforms (UsefulNotes/PlayStation4, UsefulNotes/NintendoSwitch, UsefulNotes/PlayStationVita, and UsefulNotes/XboxOne) and on PC via UsefulNotes/{{Steam}}.

* {{Fanservice}}: Another trend of Robertson's animations (see also ''VideoGame/ScottPilgrim''), the others usually involving kitties, puppies, rainbows, psychedelic imagery, and {{Gorn}}. Why else would there be such an abundance of cleavage and bouncing in a sprite game?

* {{Gainaxing}}: Empress's boobs bounce. A lot. ''Constantly''. Probably a shout-out to Angel from the old UsefulNotes/NeoGeo game ''VideoGame/ShockTroopers'', who did the same. Of course, pretty much [[WorldofBuxom every single female character has a sizable bust]] that bounces when they move.

* AnAxeToGrind: The Violence Axe weapon, which is one of the more powerful melee implements.
** One of the Violence Kings wields the aforementioned axe as well.

* AwesomeMcCoolname: ''Thaddeus Bonaparte'', aka T-Bone, the chef.

* SeldomSeenSpecies: Among commonly known animals like boars, rabbits and foxes, the devs took the trouble to add in [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capybara capybaras]].

* NiceHat: Ironside wears one. It's got a two-way radio built in ''and'' covers up his bald spot.

* AscendedFanGirl: In-universe, your supply officer, Golden Gate, is a huge fan of the Mercenary Kings and is excited to get a chance to work with them.

* KnifeNut: Your bladesmith, Ironside, who has apparently "not used a non-knife utensil in the past 15 years".

* WhoWearsShortShorts: Empress does!

* DevelopersRoom: Completing the Digger sidequest allows her to dig a tunnel deep enough in the hunting grounds' caves to uncover the Tributes Games office/hideout. If you talk to some of the staff members, they will award you with the components for the Tribute Gun.

* NiceHat: Ironside wears one. It's got a two-way radio built in ''and'' [[BaldOfAwesome covers up his bald spot.]]

** Can veer straight into SimpleYetAwesome or even GameBreaker territory once you can build the Kage biomod[[note]]+150% raw damage to knives at the cost of one less bullet in the mag and slower reload. And like all biomods, this bonus stacks.[[/note]], unlock the CQC proficiency, and forge a strong enough non-elemental knife. Not even [[ThatOneBoss the Prime Soldiers]] will be able to last more than ''seconds'' under this Stun+Stab strategy!

* WallMaster: Looper robots, which will do nothing but continually go in circles around whatever surface they're attached to and damage you on touch.

'''Mercenary Kings''' is a retro [=2D=] action platformer, created by Creator/TributeGames and released in 2014. When scientist Doctor James Neil develops the Mandragora Serum, a potent elixir that bestows superhuman strength and regeneration, he is kidnapped and his facilities on Mandragora Island are taken over by the terrorist group known as CLAW, who plan on using the serum to TakeOverTheWorld. In response, a mercenary group called the Mercenary Kings are dispatched to the island to stop CLAW and rescue Dr. Neil, but something goes horribly wrong. CLAW has already used the serum to mass produce a giant army of super soldiers, robots, mechs and mutated wildlife, and the Kings are ambushed and almost immediately cut down. Only two of the mercenaries survive, King and Empress, and even then they have to be given doses of the Mandragora Serum to survive their wounds.

* LesserSeenSpecies: Among commonly known animals like boars, rabbits and foxes, the devs took the trouble to add in [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capybara capybaras]].

* EverythingsBetterWithRainbows: The Munsterlander has rainbow-based laser weaponry and the Blitzhound K9 flashes in rainbow colors like it got a [[SuperMarioBros Starman]] when it charges.
