''Girl Meets World'' is a SequelSeries to ''Series/BoyMeetsWorld'', produced by {{Creator/Disney}} and original creator Michael Jacobs, which premiered on June 27, 2014. Creator/BenSavage and Creator/DanielleFishel reprise their roles as Cory and Topanga, with 13-year-old Creator/RowanBlanchard playing their daughter Riley--and the namesake girl who will, presumably, meet the world. Completing the family is Creator/AugustMaturo as Riley's younger brother, Auggie.

* ThatMakesMeFeelAngry: Smackle [[JustForPun smacks]] of this, at least at the start of "Girl Meets Smackle". She says both "I am sad" and makes crying noises while retaining an entirely neutral expression in her entire first scene.

** In "Girl Meets Boy", Cory tells Maya to keep on eye on Riley and Lucas. When Maya tells him they're just friends, Cory tells her "Yeah I know that story. I ''lived'' that story." (See the InUniverse ShippingGoggles entry.)

* ShippingGoggles: InUniverse. Cory has these in relation to Riley and Lucas - but to be fair, with the GenerationXerox vibe that the show has, it's not a stretch at all.

** Parents finding young teenagers already taller and stronger than them. Cory invited Riley to playfully punch him and she knocked him out of his chair, repeatedly. In another episode Maya expresses insecurity about her height, and is consoled when Topanga points out they are almost the same height. (In other words, a refreshing subversion of TeensAreShort.)

* TeensAreShort: Common with shows featuring real kids, Riley has notably gained a few inches in the second season and is taller than her mom now.

** Played for Laughs with Farkle. He is their oldest friend besides each other, and constantly declares his intent to marry one or the other (and fake marries both of them by mid season 2) to which they brush off. But they all three know it's just a game that's all make believe, and platonically love each other as dear friends.

On Jan 4 2017, it was announced [[http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/girl-meets-world-cancelled-disney-channel-season-4-1201952881/ the show wouldn't be getting a 4th season and had been cancelled.]] The final episode aired on Jan 20, 2017.

* HandingOverTheCrapSack: Subverted in the SecretSanta episode. Riley and her friends gift each other things all the recipients hate- a broken clock for Maya, an etiquette book for the Autistic Smackle, a MagicAmpersand game for Zay, and a Menorah for Farkle. Everyone is furious and hurt by their gifts and bitter at the friends who gave them, until Riley sits them all down again and makes them explain the meaning of each gift. As it turns out, all the gifts had a lot of thought put into them (for example, the etiquette book was heavily edited to praise all of Smackle's quirks), and everyone accepts them in the end.

* EmbarrassingRelativeTeacher: Cory is both Riley's history teacher and father. He goes out of his way to be an OverProtectiveDad and ward off the budding romantic relationship between Riley and her crush, among other things Riley finds embarrassing.

* OverprotectiveDad: Cory goes into fits anytime Riley so much as looks at Lucas. Thankfully he avoids a DoubleStandard by freaking out over Auggie and Ava's "wedding" and not being able to stop it.
** Topanga is a DistaffCounterpart when it comes to Auggie and Ava. Luckily, she likes Ava and Cory likes Lucas enough to prevent this trope from being a huge problem.

** In "Girl Meets The Truth", Cory's joke that the chicken in Topanga's dinner came from Auggie's dinosaur book fits current scientific belief that the descendants of the dinosaurs that survived the Yucatan asteroid strike are avian creatures - birds.[[note]]Although he does point at the [[{{Pterosoarer}} "pterodactyl"]] which paleontologists do not consider part of clade Dinosauria despite being frequently lumped in with dinosaurs in media and kids' educational books.[[/note]]

* TakingUpTheMantle: Arguably Cory, for Mr. Feeny and Mr. Turner.

* TriangRelations: Farkle has unrequited love for both Riley and Maya. When he finally decides to choose between them in "Girl Meets Farkle's Choice" the girls each have a GreenEyedEpiphany and start [[LoveTriangle fighting over him]]. This leads Farkle to decide they're all BetterAsFriends since he could never be the cause of a rift in their friendship. Lucas is conspicuously absent and unmentioned in this episode.

* AlphaBitch: "Girl Meets Sneak Attack" has Missy, who ''really goes out of her way'' to antagonize Riley over Lucas. Granted, any girl has a right to chase after any boy, but Missy earns her cred by openly flirting with Lucas right in front of Riley ''[[TemptingFate and Cory]]'' - and later, [[WhatAnIdiot seeking Riley out to rub her nose in it right in front of Maya]]. What really caps off Missy's ascendance to Alpha Bitch status is [[TranquilFury Maya's response]] after her [[EvilGloating Naughty Gloating]]:

** Every week, a different student in Cory's class is responsible for looking after Chelsea the class fish. [[spoiler: Turns out that ''every'' one them accidentally killed her so brought another fish to hide their shame.]]

** Jonathan Turner, the cool younger teacher who took Shawn in & was last seen in a full body cast following a motorcycle accident in ''BMW'''s fourth season, shows up in the second season as [[spoiler: the Superintendent of Schools for the district Cory works in.]]

** "Girl Meets the Truth" revolves around Maya holding onto a locket that doesn't belong to her. [[spoiler: Her mother is working overtime to buy Maya a locket of her own in "Girl Meets Master Plan."]]

* CannotSpitItOut: This trope drives "Girl Meets Boy", in that Riley can't really talk to Lucas (they text constantly) and has to learn how to actually work past the barrier of her own insecurity in order to have an actual conversation.
** A very different version occurs later in the series, when we find out that [[spoiler: that Maya's also fallen for Lucas and now no one can spit what anyone thinks.]]

** Save for the two Shawn Hunter-focused episodes, Season 1 mostly limited the ''Series/BoyMeetsWorld'' references to a few {{Continuity Nod}}s and a few [[TheCameo cameos]]. Season 2, on the other hand, falls under this trope. It features a revolving door of guest stars from the original series, several of them specifically included to tie up loose ends plotwise, and blatant references to several of the original's most famous lines[=/=]gags. Even viewers who are familiar with the original series might have had trouble remembering who [[spoiler: Tommy]] or [[spoiler: Jennifer Bassett]] were.
** The show also made a sport out of bringing back several characters from the original series who infamously underwent the ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Minkus, Mr. Turner, Harley, [[spoiler: and the aforementioned Tommy and Jennifer]]. Even Cory's little sister returned for the series finale; [[TheOtherDarrin both of them]].

* DeanBitterman: Principal Yancy. He doesn't think much of the students claiming "[[ApatheticTeacher kids come and go]]". [[spoiler: Mr. Turner lets him go because of it.]]

** In "Girl Meets Mr. Squirrels Goes To Washington", a montage of key scenes from the [[spoiler: Tommy arc]] is played after TheReveal that blogger T.J. Murphy is [[spoiler: Eric's "little brother" Tommy]].

* HonoraryUncle: Shawn Hunter to Riley & Auggie, as one would expect. "Girl Meets The New Teacher" reveals that [[spoiler: Jonathan Turner is also "Uncle John" to them.]]

* JailBaitWait: [[spoiler: Josh essentially agrees to this with Maya, promising that someday when she gets older they can give a relationship a chance.]]

* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler: Riley's bully in "Girl Meets Rileytown". While Riley is able to drive off the bully by showing her entire class loves and accepts her for who she is, the bully is never caught nor punished by Cory or any of the other other teachers. * ProsceniumReveal: Riley's narration throughout "Girl Meets Gravity" [[spoiler: is revealed to be a speech at Mrs. Svorski's funeral at the end of the episode.]]

* RealLifeWritesThePlot: [[spoiler: Angela]] mentions [[spoiler: her father]] doesn't visit her as a ghost. The actor who played him died in 2008.

* TheReveal: T.J. Murphy, the blogger who helps Eric with his election campaign, is actually [[spoiler: Tommy, the orphan Eric was a big brother to in the original series.]]

* ShipperOnDeck: "Girl Meets Master Plan" also reveals that the Matthews, Farkle and Lucas ship Shawn/Katy pairing, trying to play matchmaker between the two lonely, loveless adults.
