Clumsy junior-high student Amano Ichigo has never been good at anything. Her younger sister Natsume has all the talent in the family. But Ichigo loves cakes, or eating them, at least. Sweets can make people smile, even when they're feeling sad; her late grandmother, a pâtissière (French for "female pastry chef"), could always cheer her up with her "magic" cakes. One day, during a pastry convention, Ichigo meets Henri Lucas, a pâtissier from the French baking school [[ElaborateUniversityHigh St. Marie Academy]]. He lets her try his newest cake, and she's able to describe the feelings that inspired it after one bite! What amazing taste she has! That's it--Ichigo decides she wants to be a pâtissière and make sweets that spread happiness. Henri helps her enroll at St. Marie (which conveniently has a Japanese division), and thus begins her journey down her grandmother's path! But Ichigo's clumsiness catches up to her, and baking proves harder than she imagined. To make things worse, she's placed in the same team as the Sweets Princes, St. Marie's three master pâtissiers! Thankfully, more help comes to her in a tiny form: a [[FairyCompanion "Sweets Spirit"]] named Vanilla, who's also trying to become a pâtissière in her world.

* ShownTheirWork: As a professional pastry chef that attended culinary school, I am very surprised about the level of detail put into it all. The recipes (Yes, acidic fruits tend to be bad for gelatin), the little facts about certain techniques (The temperature for chocolate is on the mark, and using a marble slab will temper your chocolate. Heck, if you look closely, you can sometimes see Kashino use the back of a small sheet pan for tempering, which is a very smart alternative.), and proper habits for succeeding in the field (lots and lots of practice, constructive feedback, sketching plating ideas, proper clean up, etc). They do kind of get some very small parts wrong, but it can be passed off as the rule of cool.

Ichigo and Kazuma also both have a special "power" (Ichigo's senses of taste and smell, Kazuma's "solar hands") that no other baker has. And the Cake Grand Prix and World Cake Grand Prix are like the Pantasia Newcomers Battle and The Monaco Cup.

Some people consider it ''SaintSeiya [-[[RecycledINSPACE WITH SCIENCE!!!]]-]''

The story begins with Teppei Takamiya, as he travels to China after years of living quietly in the fictional Kamui Island. He attempts to reunite with his brother Kotaro, who left Germany five years ago to study robotics at a university. Unfortunately, no sooner than his brother begins an exhibition about an advanced form of machine, he's kidnapped by a HumongousMecha in the shape of a wasp and a servant of [[TheEmpire the Machine Empire]]. Teppei starts a chase, using a gauntlet known as the "Messiah Fist" to hold onto the wasp as it travels to a secretive base in the Gobi Desert which serves as the Empire's headquarters.

Getting thrown into a garbage heap and facing a cyborg he somehow is familiar with, Teppei's blood awakens a relic from the past; a kirin-type B't known only as "[[OneLetterName X]]" which, five years ago, was considered the most powerful B't in existence. Both are equally stubborn, although quite different in many ways, and after a few initial squabbles, X resolves to help Teppei in his quest to save his brother.

Along the way, we find out quite a bit about Teppei's past, the reasons Kotaro was kidnapped, and the Machine Empire's plans involving a home-grown CosmicHorror of [[GGundam Devil Gundam]] proportions.

Both the manga and the anime have been licensed in America.

!!This series provides examples of:

* [[ABoyAndHisX A Boy And His Kirin]]
* ActionGirl: Teppei's teacher Karen, who had been one of the Empire's Four Knights up until five years ago. Aramis is another example.
* AirJousting: A lot of fights take place in the air.
* AMechByAnyOtherName: In this case, a B't.
* AnticlimaxBoss: Teppei faces two of these. One because his opponent wasn't an actual Machine Empire soldier and was using a jerry-rigged machine. Later on, due to [[spoiler: a dying X activating its SuperMode previously]], Teppei beats the 6th Point soldier without noticing him.
* ArmorIsUseless: averted for the most part. Foh, Hokuto, and Ron rarely use theirs simply because they either hate fighting (Foh and Hokuto's reason) or they're just that good. (Ron's reason)
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Ron. He has amazing skills to back him up, however.
* TheAtoner: Foh, who [[spoiler: almost let his best friend kill him over the whole DeadLittleSister thing.]]
* BatmanCanBreatheInSpace: Applies to everyone with a B't. Except for instances involving the B'ts' WeaksauceWeakness (see below), a B't's protective "Guard System" enables it and its rider to withstand anything ranging from magma to the void of space.
* BadassLabcoat: Hokuto.
* BadassNormal: Karen could wipe out entire attack teams single-handedly and went a few rounds with [[CosmicHorror Raphaello]] ''on foot''.
* BattleAura: X's Prism of Aura, which doubles as a SuperMode.
* BittersweetEnding: [[spoiler: The world is saved, and very well... the main cast, not so much]].
* BrokenBird: Salome until Teppei helps her.
* CallingYourAttacks: All the time.
* CastFullOfPrettyBoys: It ''was'' made by Kurumada, after all. Also total MrFanservice.
* ChekhovsGun: [[spoiler:Foh's bible and Raphaello's cell]].
* CosmicHorror: Raphaello in every sense of the word. For a good part of the series, the Empire has to move heaven and hell to keep it under control. And they fail miserably at it.
* CreepyChild: Misha. Nasha's also there, but she's essentially just his MoralityPet.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: Made apparent with the cyborg named ''Metalface'', who considers sacrificing his own flesh and blood for an immortal robotic body to be an obvious choice.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Karen creates a black version of X, Shadow X, that is just as powerful, a girl, and ''good.''
* DeadLittleSister: One of the most brutal and nerve-wracking moments in the series... [[spoiler: Along that one that makes you want to strangle Foh. When his village was bombed and most of the adults were killed, he, his best friend Quattro, and Quattro's sister were three of the few survivors. For the record, however, Foh did learn his lesson and had no qualms when Quattro nearly beat him to death when they fought in the series.]]
** Played very ambigously, as [[spoiler: religion]] is not really portrayed positively in Kurumada's mangas, which can also be seen in the theme running through both SaintSeiya and B'tX: [[spoiler: villains often play for God and it ends badly for them]], while the hero believing in himself and his friends despite many hardships and sacrifices brings him victory, even if [[spoiler: it's usually at a big personal cost]].
* DeadpanSnarker: At least in the Tokyopop manga, the ''narrator'' pulls this off in the recap of the previous volume, complete with LampshadeHanging various issues such as Teppei's VitriolicBestBuddies status he eventually gets with Foh and company, [[spoiler: the fact that Juggler's real face looks just like a clown face anyways]], etc.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Averted. Teppei never actually defeats Foh in a fight and the best he does against Ron is fight him to a draw. he also never duels either Karen or Hokuto. However, they all eventually side with him.
* DistaffCounterpart: Karen's new B't made from spare parts, Shadow, is a female black Kirin.
* EvilClown: Juggler. [[spoiler: He gets better in the manga, however.]]
* EvilTwin: Meimu, who is [[spoiler: Hokuto's brother]].
* [[MonsterOfTheWeek Enemy Of The Week]]: more a case of two or more weeks.
* {{Expy}}: Pretty much everything in this series can be tracked down to SaintSeiya:
** Teppei looks very much like an older Seiya.
** Ron looks a lot like Shiryu. This, however, doesn't apply to his personality.
** Foh also looks a lot like Hyoga. Then again, it doesn't apply to his personality as well. He can also be seen as the unholy child of Saga and Shaka, with a dash of Lyra Orpheus thrown in.
** Adding to the "Huh" factor of the look-alikes, Kotaro looks an awful lot like Shun, if he grew up and cut his hair real short.
** And last, but not least, the B'ts and Battle Gears. Subverted in that they don't split-up to form an armor for their owner.
* TheFaceless: We do not see the Machine Emperor in person until the final volume, and never once in the anime.
* FacelessMooks: the regular soldiers from the Machine Empire.
* {{Filler}}: three episodes dealing with the Dark Knights (while in the manga they were defeated all together and very anticlimactically), along with encountering an old member of the Four Knights and also a reclusive scientist.
* FillerVillain: Chaos and the three Dark Knights. Chaos plays an important role, however, coining the phrase "Buddy", which is used a lot in the remainder of the series, and furthering Teppei's CharacterDevelopment. The Dark Knights serve to {{foreshadow|ing}} Teppei's connection with the Sun, and the potential he has.
* FiveManBand: Teppei and the Four Knights
** TheHero: Teppei and X
** TheLancer: Foh and Je T'aime
** TheBigGuy: Ron and Raidou
** TheSmartGuy: Hokuto and Max
** TheChick: (ActionGirl Variety) Karen and Shadow
* FoeYay: Sapphire, a ''guy'' no less, kisses Teppei since he likes "his light."
** Foh and Quattro, who were also [[UnfortunateImplications raised in Sodom]].
* TheFourGods: The B'ts used by the Four Knights, replacing Byakko with a Kirin.
* FourIsDeath: Subverted. The Four Knights are, naturally, four in number, and they all eventually resolve to help Teppei. The seven Demon Knights, however, are all out for his blood.
* GrapplingHookPistol: One of the main funtions of Teppei's Messiah Fist, his "Shining Knucle" attack is the power enhanced version of this function.
* GratuitousEnglish: "''X! Omea wa ore bahdie!''"
* HeelFaceTurn: ''Plenty'', especially when people realize how dangerous Raphaello really is.
* HeroicSacrifice: Again, lots of people. [[spoiler: Metalface managed to pull it off twice. Once sacrificing a means of safely travelling a minefield to help out a young Karen years ago which caused him to require his cyborg parts, and once again to secure the force that would destroy Raphaello at the cost of his body]]
* HighHeelFaceTurn: A noticeable aspect in this series. Pretty much ''every'' female character who serves in the Machine Empire, such as Salome, Karen, and Nasha, will end up having the brains to help Teppei by the end. [[spoiler:Too bad that ''all'' of them die in at least one version of the story with the sole exception of Karin.]] In addition, of all the Devil Knights, the sole female Salome is the only one to decide to help Teppei once she regains her faith in humanity. Unfortunately, [[spoiler: [[KickTheDog Juggler had different ideas.]]]]
* HollywoodAtheist: As a child, Foh [[DeadLittleSister lacked tact]].
* HotBlooded: Teppei and Ron.
* [[HyperspaceMallet Hyperspace Armor]]: The fighters summon their armor out of thin air.
* IdiotHero: He grows out of it eventually, but Teppei's VERY MUCH this trope for a good chunk of the series. It takes a double whammy of [[spoiler:him almost getting X killed and Fou telling him how much of a fucking loser he is]] for him to wise up.
* IllGirl: Nasha.
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: Hokuto suffers from radiation poisoning. During at least one point in the series, it catches up to him at the worst possible moment.
* KickTheDog: Misha '' violently blows up a {{mook}}s helmet'' because he was a bit too insistently asking for orders.
* KillEmAll: [[spoiler: the manga kills off a ''lot'' of people, and in the end pretty much the only two protagonists, both human and B't, that survive are Teppei and Kotaro. In the anime, the last scenes implies that everybody died, including Teppei and Kotaro]].
* KillItWithFire: Teppei's initial FinishingMove in the anime is "Break On", a pillar of flames. He ditches that later on.
* LadyOfWar: Aramis, a high-ranking Machine Empire general and in fact the renowned and undefeated Rose Knight. During her fight against [[spoiler: Juggler]], she struts her stuff and trounces him.
* MadScientist: literally with Dr. Poe, who suffers from multiple personality disorder.
* MakeMeWannaShout: Je T'aime's high-pitched screeches exploit a B't's sound-based vulnerabilities.
* MeaningfulName: "B't" is pronounced like "beat", as in "heartbeat". Appropriate considering blood is required to activate one. Raidou, Ron's B't, and Je T'aime, Foh's B't, are other instances.
** BlindIdiotTranslation: In the Spanish localization, however, B't was turned into ''Beta'', deleting any meaning of the original name.
* MechaMooks: The Ryukans, which are piloted by generic soldiers.
* TheMedic: Hokuto, a very literal one.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: [[spoiler:After X dies for the first time, Hokuto repairs him. Among other things, Teppei's armor changes and he gets a new attack.]]
* MightyGlacier: Hokuto's B't Max is infamous among the Empire for having unparalleled defense. [[spoiler:This doesn't stop Dr. Poe from destroying all of her except for her head.]] In terms of actual people, Amigo fits this.
* MookFaceTurn: Karin, [[spoiler: Karen's younger sister]] who calls it quits fairly early and spends the rest of the series taking care of the kids at Foh's orphanage.
* MusicalAssassin: Foh uses a ''violin bow'' as a weapon to go along with Je T'aime's attacks.
* MustMakeAmends: Marcellos does a ''lot'' of very, very stupid and amoral things, striving him to do everything he can to help Kotaro when that time comes. In the anime, his knowledge of the tower's layout is utterly crucial.
* NietzscheWannabe: Gai is the philosopher of the empire, but also a firm believer that HumansAreBastards.
* NuclearWeaponsTaboo: Averted. Hokuto's radiation sickness was triggered by being just outside the direct killzone of a nuke that destroyed his home and family and he's got the burns on his back to prove it. [[spoiler: Aramis also tries to kill Raphaello by loading Rosemary up with every nuclear warhead she can find and performing a HeroicSacrifice, but Raphaello's power makes it a SenselessSacrifice.]]
* {{OVA}}: B't X Neo, also known as episodes 26-39.
* OvertookTheManga: The anime entirely skips the last four Demon Knight battles and revamps the final battle against Raphaello.
* {{Padding}}: Most of the fights were drawn out in the anime to last two or more episodes. In contrast, the manga's battles move on at a fairly decent clip. In execution, however, this padding involves Teppei getting thrashed around ''a lot'', making him seem weaker and more inefficient than he is in the manga.
* PhlebotinumRebel: The Titular B't X.
** [[spoiler: The Messiah Fist]] as well, at least in the anime. [[spoiler:Turns out it was reverse-engineered from a sample of Raphaello's cells]].
* PhysicalGod: In the manga, Gai technically doesn't exist, is immortal, can make an infinite number of copies of himself, and has possibly unlimited firepower.
* {{Pirates}}: There's a guy named Captain Hook, and is one of Teppei's first enemies for essentially no reason.
* PocketProtector
* PowerFist: The Messiah Fist.
* ThePowerOfLove: The only reason Foh was able to defeat the Demon Knight Gai. [[spoiler: with his bowstring broken and Je T'aime's speakers destroyed, he used his bows and she used her wings to resonate at the frequency of a baby crying out for a mother's love and defeated him.]]
* PunctuationShaker: Played straight with "B't", but justified with Je T'aime, which is French for "I love you."
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: Many, many people, especially in the manga. [[spoiler: Juggler, Marcello, Amigo, and Aramis just to name a few. Misha and Nasha also die in the anime after each makes a HeelFaceTurn.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: Teppei and X fit this dynamic quite well, and it's taken to almost VitriolicBestBuddies-level proportions.
* RescueArc: Essentially the entire series.
* RetiredBadass: Kaos ([[SpellMyNameWithAnS Caos]]) from the anime.
* ShapeShifterMashup: Raphaello.
* SignatureStyle: The inclusion of a kirin. In many of Kurumada's other works, a kirin (or occasionally a pegasus) has something to do with the protagonist.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS:
** Is it Ron, Lon, or Long?
** And Foh, Fou, or Phoue?
* SuicidalOverconfidence: Teppei suffers from this early on. It takes [[spoiler: X essentially dying]] for him to start realizing he can't act stupid, if only for the sake of others.
* SuperRobot: The B't.
* ThirdLineSomeWaiting: You have a number of plots going on at the same time. The three big ones are:
** Teppei's RescueArc
** Foh and the other members of the Four Knights trying to determine if Raphaello is indeed an evil that has to be put down and if they should help Teppei.
** Kotaro's adventures in [[strike: Wonderland]] Underhell where he tries to figure out Raphaello's weaknesses.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: The Machine Empire's subordinates believe they are fighting to bring about an end to war. Some of them are more dogged in this belief than others.
* ViewersAreGeniuses: Hokuto vs. Dr. Poe... plus any time Kotaro is writing formulas.
* WeaksauceWeakness: B'ts are vulnerable to certain sound frequencies that damage fragile parts of their systems.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Teppei initially views X as a tool to help him rescue Kotaro. It takes a while for him to realize X has his own thoughts and feelings. This also applies to Metalface, although his realization came too late.
* WhatMeasureIsAMook: The juggler uses mooks as PeoplePuppets, to which Teppei is horrified ''despite'' having killed hundreds of them by that point. Interestingly, once he manages end his VillainOverride of them, their [[FacelessGoons helmets]] harmlessly blow up and reveal their faces.
* YouFailLogicForever: Deliberately invoked by Hokuto at one point to distract an enemy.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Aramis is eventually demoted due to her efforts to suppress Raphaello's growth. EvilClown Juggler takes over for her
* [[YouKilledMyFather You Killed My Sister]]: The reason [[spoiler:Quattro]] wants to kill [[spoiler:Foh. Foh has no objections]].
* YouShallNotPass: In the anime, when at death's door, [[spoiler: Amigo wraps his arms around metal pipes and blocks a door with his body, which stalls the enemy mooks long enough for Teppei to arrive and finish them off.]]
* YouWillBeAssimilated: Raphaello's shtick. It provides gallons of NightmareFuel.

* LimitedWardrobe: Johnny is the only human character who wears the exact same clothes in every episode. This usually applies
to the "Huh" factor of sweets spirits, although there have been episodes where they wear something different.
* LoveConfession: According to
the look-alikes, Kotaro looks an awful lot like Shun, if he grew up and cut his hair real short.
** And last, but not least, the B'ts and Battle Gears. Subverted in
manga [[spoiler:Mari confessed numerous times to Henrie, only for him to always turn her down saying that they don't split-up to form an armor for their owner.

LuckyCharmsTitle: The Dark Knights serve to {{foreshadow|ing}} Teppei's connection with the Sun, and the potential he has.
* FiveManBand: Teppei and the Four Knights
** TheHero: Teppei and X
** TheLancer: Foh and Je T'aime

** TheSmartGuy: Hokuto and Max
** TheChick: (ActionGirl Variety) Karen and Shadow

* FourIsDeath: Subverted. The Four Knights are, naturally, four in number, and they all eventually resolve to help Teppei. The seven Demon Knights, however, are all out for his blood.
* GrapplingHookPistol: One of the main funtions of Teppei's Messiah Fist, his "Shining Knucle" attack is the power enhanced version of this function.
* GratuitousEnglish: "''X! Omea wa ore bahdie!''"
* HeelFaceTurn: ''Plenty'', especially when people realize how dangerous Raphaello really is.

* HotBlooded: Teppei and Ron.
* IllGirl: Nasha.
* MakeMeWannaShout: Je T'aime's high-pitched screeches exploit a B't's sound-based vulnerabilities.
* MeaningfulName: "B't" ''[[StrawberryShorthand Ichigo]]'' can mean "strawberry," a fruit used in baking and topping cakes. The kanji for ''Amano'' (天野) is read as "sky field," but it could be a pun, as it looks like "sweet," from ''amai'' (甘い) and ''no'' (の). The Sweets Spirits' names are foods and flavors, like Vanilla, Chocolat (French, not a typo), Caramel, Cafe, Honey, Marron, Orange (it's not pronounced like "beat", as in "heartbeat". Appropriate considering blood the traditional ''ORENJI'' [オレンジ], but ''ORANJU'' [オランジュ], which is required a much more accurate way to activate one. Raidou, Ron's B't, say it), Peach, Cherry, and Je T'aime, Foh's B't, are Black Cherry.
** Sweet, in Japanese, also means [[BigEater indulgent]] and naive (in a bad way, usually translated as "fool")
* MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels: Maize slaughters the Japanese language often and has to be corrected by the
other instances.
** BlindIdiotTranslation: In

the Spanish localization, however, B't was turned into ''Beta'', deleting any meaning Sweets Spirit Queen are both named Marie, in fact, sharing the same name is what started their friendship and eventually gave birth to the whole partnership system between humans and Sweets Spirits.
* {{Narcissist}}: Hanabusa.
* TheNicknamer: Andou's brother Ichita has a nickname for each of Andou's friends. Ichigo's is "Cake Hog," which she, of course, doesn't take kindly to.
* [[NoblewomansLaugh Noblewoman's Laugh]]: Koshiro Miya (the "Heiress")
* ObliviousToLove: Ichigo sure seems to be. Poor Hanabusa.
** And poor Kashino, although he [[{{Tsundere}} wouldn't blatantly show how it affects him]].
** Inverted with Kashino, who got so sick of all the fangirls he has had in his life, that it drove him to misogyny (although he [[IShallTauntYou begrudglingly tolerates Ichigo]] and eventually falls for her).
* {{Ojou}}: Koshiro Miya; in fact, that is what everyone calls her.
* OlderThanTheyLook: The Sweets Spirits (Mint, the ''youngest'' of them, is 150 years old!) and Marie Lucas' ghost.
* {{Omake}}: At least one per volume in the manga. We even discover the name
of the Sweets Spirit Queen (for those who want to know, her name is Marie which makes her the only Sweets Spirit to not have an EdibleThemeNaming) in one of them.
* OnTheNextEpisodeOfCatchphrase: As stated at the top, "Won't you have some of my dream-colored sweets?"
* OppositesAttract: [[spoiler: Ichigo and Kashino]].
* {{OVA}}: ''Yumeiro Pâtissiére Mune Mune Kyun Tropical Island'', a seven minutes short in which Ichigo, Kashino, Andou, Hanabusa and the Spirits are, by no explained reasons, trapped in an island in the middle of nowhere.
* OverprotectiveDad: Mr. Amano, definitely -- not just when it comes to Ichigo dating but also her clumsiness and what might happen if she falls from something tall.
* OvertookTheManga: While the YP manga (which appears in Ribon, a monthly magazine) is still in the middle of the Cake Grand Prix in Japan, the anime went in its own direction by [[spoiler:having Team Ichigo lose in the finals, but still able to go to Paris as sub-representatives for the St. Marie Japan campus.]] Additionally, a new season of the anime entitled ''Yumeiro Pâtissière Professional'' will be a completely
original name.

* MightyGlacier: Hokuto's B't Max PluckyGirl: Ichigo, of course

is infamous among what inspired her to become a pâtissière.

the Empire for having unparalleled defense. [[spoiler:This doesn't stop Dr. Poe from destroying all scene where everyone dances to Tchaikovsky's "Waltz of the Flowers".

* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: The Sweets Spirits. Mint, the youngest, is ''150 years old''! And Cafe says that's "so young!"
* RedHerring: The grey-haired male judge is the only one (besides Henri) who appears in the theme song, making you think he may have some significance in the story. He's the director of St. Marie in Japan and a judge at the Grand Prixes, but he's no more important than that.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: Koshiro Miya, who always buys extraordinarily expensive ingredients and can be relied upon to use her money and influence to compensate
for her head.]] In terms ([[OvershadowedByAwesome relative]]) lack of actual people, Amigo fits this.
* MookFaceTurn: Karin,

Her "accomplishments" include paying some of the greatest patissieres in the world to teach her their secrets and buying ''200 kilograms'' of super-expensive chocolate to make a fondue, though [[BeyondTheImpossible she has managed to top herself]] by [[spoiler: Karen's younger sister]] who calls it quits fairly early and spends the rest buying one of the series taking care St. Marie campuses so she could enter the World Grand Prix, even after being knocked out in the first round of the kids at Foh's orphanage.
[[spoiler: Aramis also tries to kill Raphaello by loading Rosemary up with every nuclear warhead she can find and performing a HeroicSacrifice, but Raphaello's power makes it a SenselessSacrifice.
high school tournament.]]
* {{OVA}}: B't X Neo, also known as episodes 26-39.
* PhlebotinumRebel: The Titular B't X.
* {{Pirates}}: There's a guy named Captain Hook, and is one of Teppei's first enemies
SecondLove: [[spoiler:Kashino for essentially no reason.

* RedOniBlueOni: Teppei StrawberryShorthand: Ichigo
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: Sometimes instead of sticking to the techniques of baking, Ichigo will try to get by with appeal
and X fit taste--and it works. A good example is during her CookingDuel with "The Heiress," when Ichigo [[spoiler:intentionally burnt her pudding's caramel topping, making it bitter, because she had noticed that the judge likes bitter foods]].
* ThemeTuneCameo: In one of the birthday cake episodes, Vanilla, while posing for Ichigo's marzipan statue, starts humming the opening theme.
** In "Happy Sweets Dream," the Sweets Spirits start singing a (bad) rendition of the theme song.
** In the beginning of the last episode of ''Professional'', Vanilla hums "Sweet Romance" while she works.
* ThereIsOnlyOneBed: Both Ichigo/Kashino and Hanabusa/Andoh face
this dynamic quite well, and dilemma during the patisserie visit episode in Paris.
* TimeSkip: The second season is an original story not based on the manga, which the first season had already [[OvertookTheManga overtaken]].

TrainingFromHell: All-night baking lessons, French cram sessions, ''push-ups'', and feelings.

* YouWillBeAssimilated: Raphaello's shtick. It provides gallons UnmovingPlaid: The older female judge in episode 45.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: By the time they get to Paris, it becomes clear that [[spoiler: everyone in the Cake Grand Prix, and pretty much anyone

* VerbalTic: Caramel, desu. Also don't forget Chocolat, desu wa. There's also Mint, deshi.
* WingdingEyes: Mint when she meets her "senpai" Vanilla in Paris.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic: All of the Sweets Spirits carry utensils around with them. Vanilla, Caramel and Cafe have spoons, while Chocolat wields a fork. That has to mean ''something'', right?
* [[XmeetsY X Meets Y Meets Z]]: ''{{Gakuen Alice}}'' meets ''{{Kitchen Princess}}'' meets ''{{Shugo Chara}}'', especially when you consider Ichigo's hardy personality and love of foods, with also the fact that she was randomly recruited by a mysterious teacher into a high class academy. Meanwhile, the "Sweets Spirits" have been compared to the Guardian Characters from the third mentioned series because of their fairy-like "chibi" appearance.
** Not to mention that Ichigo even has the [[GirlishPigtails same hairstyle]] as [[GakuenAlice Mikan]].
** How about ''YakitateJapan'' meets ''ShugoChara''? Like ''YakitateJapan'', this show features a kid chef/baker who can make some amazing foods despite being a complete amateur.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: And green and purple and orange... hell, Ichigo is one of the only people at the school with regular old brown hair and brown eyes.
** What makes it funny is that Ichigo realizes Henri is a foreigner ''because of his blond hair''. She gets to the school and [[UnusuallyUninterestingSight never mentions all of the bizarre hair colors she sees there]], including all of the (presumably Japanese) kids with ''[[FacePalm blond hair.]]''

[[caption-width-right:275: [[SaintSeiya PEGASUS RYUSEerrr, I mean, MESSIAH FIST!!!]]]]
Written by MasamiKurumada after he finished ''SaintSeiya'' prematurely due to the [[ExecutiveMeddling insistence of his publishers]] four years ago, ''B[='=]t X'' has a similar premise but with a different setting and execution.

----
!!This series provides examples of:

* [[ABoyAndHisX A Boy And His Kirin]]
* ActionGirl: Teppei's teacher Karen, who had been one of the Empire's Four Knights up until five years ago. Aramis is another example.
* AirJousting: A lot of fights take place in the air.
* AMechByAnyOtherName: In this case, a B't.
* BadassLabcoat: Hokuto.
* CallingYourAttacks: All the time.
* CastFullOfPrettyBoys: It ''was'' made by Kurumada, after all. Also total MrFanservice.
* ChekhovsGun: [[spoiler:Foh's bible and Raphaello's cell]].
Lilly, who had a strong sense of religious faith, had a crush on Foh but was upset that he had become an atheist since he couldn't hear the "Song of Angels". When Lilly began to grow ill, Quattro begged Foh to at least restore her will to live and let her know he could hear the "Song of Angels", which Foh refused. It hit its worst point when Foh, at Lilly's ''deathbed'', coldly told her it never existed and she nearly died on the spot.
* HotBlooded: Teppei and Ron.
* IllGirl: Nasha.
* MakeMeWannaShout: Je T'aime's high-pitched screeches exploit a B't's sound-based vulnerabilities.
* {{OVA}}: B't X Neo, also known as episodes 26-39.
* PhlebotinumRebel: The Titular B't X.
* PocketProtector
* PowerFist: The Messiah Fist.
* ShapeShifterMashup: Raphaello.
* SignatureStyle: The inclusion of a kirin. In many of Kurumada's other works, a kirin (or occasionally a pegasus) has something to do with the protagonist.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS:
* SuperRobot: The B't.
