* ArtEvolution: The series has undergone a noticeable change in character designs since the comic started in 1992. The art shift is extremely noticeable in the FUNimation dub, where they don't run episodes in any particular production order. Rather, for the sake of the GagDub, they just looked through numerous episodes and chose ones they wanted to work with. Even for episodes that are aired in the order relating to the storylines (such as the Apartment or Kendo story arcs), a more primitive design comes back once in a while.

''Crayon Shin-chan'', or ''Shin-chan'', is a long-running SliceOfLife Japanese manga and anime series created by the [[AuthorExistenceFailure late]] Yoshito Usui. It follows the misadventures of the mischievous little boy Shinnosuke "Shin" Nohara who gets into various antics with his family and friends.

* CrazyAwesome: In-universe, Kenta really IS crazy, but he's a good Kendo instructor ''because'' of it.

* ThemeTuneCameo: In the GagDub, the characters frequently hum along to the background music of the scene. In a couple episodes, they outright sing the ending theme.

** This happened on Adult Swim at times, despite [=FUNimation=]'s dub (at least the first season) being specifically recorded to be raunchy, but still TV-friendly. For example, in the episode ''OK, But I'm a Power Bottom', the word 'cock' is bleeped out in both the DVD and Adult Swim version, but the officer Barnie calling Shin a retard and making a reference to a 'strawberry shortcake' sex act were unbleeped on DVD and loudly bleeped on Adult Swim.

* After Phuuz's license expired, {{Creator/FUNimation}} acquired the rights and their dub was approved to air on Creator/AdultSwim. This version is a considerably more profane GagDub (though it retains the original Japanese background music) and had a video and streaming-only release for a third season.

* AlternativeForeignThemeSong: South Korean dub is an great example with opening and ending. Though this practice were stopped in season 7, but it eventually received its recent Korean-exclusive theme song named "Buri-buri Dance Party" ('''Korean:''' 부리부리 댄스 파티 ''bulibuli daenseu pati)'' since season 16 of the Korean dub of the anime.

* The first English dub was created by Vitello Productions and Lacey Entertainment, often referred to the "Vitello dub" which adapted 52 episodes. Being marketed towards kids, the dub censored a lot of content from [[WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids the Japanese version]] to make it more suitable for Western Audiences. However at the same time, the dub is notable for the [[GettingCrapPastTheRadar amount of dirtier jokes they left in from the original show]], and many dirty jokes ''they actually added themselves'', as well as [[{{Woolseyism}} replacing jokes]] that most Western viewers wouldn't get with localized substitutes. This version was never aired in the US, but did air in the UK through 2002-2003 on their version of Fox Kids.

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: The writers for the English dub identify this as existing in the original Japanese version in the commentary for an episode involving Action Bastard and a vibrating "back massager." Specifically, the part where Lollipop shows up with it and seems to have trouble walking. And then uses it on Action Kamen's groin.
** In the Polish dub of the anime, a lovely line is thrown in the episode where Miss Dori is going on a date and she realizes Shin has been following her. While she contemplates boats looking very small from the train she's riding on, Shin comments that he prefers submarines and if she comes to the bathtub with him he'll show her "his periscope".

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: Despite censoring some scenes from the original, the Vitello dub actually ''added'' risque moments at times.
** One episode had Shin sitting on the back massager as he was using it on Harry and complaining when Harry made him get off it because he "was just starting to like it." It also retained the scenes where the Masked Muchacho's sidekick uses a device on his crotch and Shin copies the action by using the massager on Harry's. Though the dubbers had Harry scream "My leg!" to try and make it look like Shin hit him there, you can clearly see the imprint left on the crotch of his pants. And finally, the episode ends with the Masked Muchacho and his sidekick on TV telling kids that a massager is not a toy and they shouldn't play with it. "Leave it to Mom and Dad. They know how to handle it."

* In 2004, Phuuz Entertainment gained the license to the series and produced a dub similar to the Vitello dub, with the intention of being a "second season" of sorts. The Phuuz dub used the same background music and localized names of its predecessor but now featured a different pool of Los Angeles-based voice actors. At least 78 episodes of the "Phuuz dub" are rumored to exist (based on the German dub which translated its scripts from the Vitello and Phuuz dubs) but no English-language segments have appeared on the Internet and it was never released on DVD. Phuuz pitched this dub to Creator/AdultSwim in 2005, but it was rejected on the terms that they "felt that it was better suited to a younger audience."

** Shin-chan driving Penny's mom crazy, with Penny crying "You're not my usual mom!" Other times she goes to the bathroom to punch a stuffed bunny, a behavior that even carried over to Penny.

* GoLookAtTheDistraction: Shin tries to invoke this on an angry dog in "I hit a homer" but it fails to work.

* Flatwoods Monsters are the MiniMecha the all-female population of Warota utilizes during armed conflict. They appear in the [[MultiPartEpisode two-parter]] "Uchuu Kazoku Nohara Da Zo". At first, the Warotans attack the Nohara Family because Ginnosuke unknowingly took a stone needed to keep a giant, voracious eel locked in its lake. Once the misunderstanding is cleared up, the Nohara Family comes to the Warotans' rescue. Most of the army, which handles red mecha, gets eaten by the eel, so the Warotan Mayuyu and Shin join the fight in their own mecha, which is blue. The stone is successfully returned to its original location, which forces the eel to throw up all the soldiers it had eaten and to return to the lake.

* ByTheLightsOfTheirEyes: A rather weird one in [[https://youtu.be/Lc8vjpW2NPo?t=8 episode 8 of the spin-off series “Gaiden: Toy Wars,”]] since the characters usually have no visible sclera.
