megred trope

* BastardGirlfriend: Athena used to teach Hayate, with kicks to the gut (he complained), that the guy had to be able to support the girl for the rest of her life. This was when they were both around 6 years old. Now, 10 years later, she's probably the [[BuxomIsBetter closest to ''sexy'']] girl within the story.

* DangerouslyShortSkirt: Largely averted for the first two seasons of the anime. The third and fourth one seems to have shortened the skirts a bit and ZettaiRyouiki is much more noticeable on some of the girls.

* AffablyEvil – Hayate’s parents. The "[[{{Irony}} Very Nice]] [[{{Yakuza}} People]]". In pretty much opposite ways, though. Hayate's parents are basically nonviolent psychotics, and remain nonviolent solely because of the "affable" part. They can do anything to anyone on a whim without feeling at all responsible for their own actions or the consequences: due to a lack of malicious intent, they can be entirely sympathetic to their victims without this feeling in any way affecting their choices or actions. The latter are (possibly literal, though it doesn't come up) [[CardCarryingVillain Card Carrying Villains]] who aren't going to stop doing bad things to people, but are also quite principled and fully admit their responsibility wherever it applies.

* CrossoverShip: With the ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler'' movie and the ''Manga/MahouSenseiNegima'' movie being released together it was a given that there would be a little art of the characters together. * {{Adorkable}}: Hayate all the way, Hinagiku even calls him a dork at times in the official translation. Hina sees this side of him the most and has noted it on multiple occasions, and has once or twice asked herself why she fell in love with such an idiot. Despite and/or because of his flustered, awkward moments the girls still love the guy.
** Kazuki Nishizawa, Ayumu's rarely seen little brother, is also like this around Nagi, with whom he fell in love at first sight. His introduction pretty closely mirrors something Hayate would do, where he felt the need to introduce himself and try to be cool only to fall flat on his face. Nagi immediately thought he was a weird guy but also interesting [[spoiler: which scored him an enjoyable date with her later on]].

** It should also be noted that while he fights unarmed most of the time, [[spoiler: he was actually trained in swordsmanship and is insanely good at it, to the point where with a normal sword borrowed from a decorative suit of armor he was able to effortlessly one-shot a 12-foot tall Minotaur]]. He also apparently has access to and familiarity with a giant machine gun - even without Sanzen'in resources - that would make [[BoringInvincibleHero every battle in the series a total cakewalk]].

Lolicon and shotacon have been disambiguated. Links with too little context are being removed - "paedo" is not always a trope, examples where the tropeworthiness is unclear are being removed. Also, please do not use "loli" as a synonym for little girl; see Lolicon And Shotacon as to why not

* DerailedFairyTale: Hayate tells one of these to Nagi when she is in bed feeling sick for one of the anniversary chapters. Specifically he tells "Alice in Wonderland" and, this series being what it is, warns her before he starts that it has been a long time since the author read "Alice in Wonderland". It stars Hinagiku as Alice, meeting the Student Council Trio dressed in [[PlayBoyBunny bunny-girl outfits]] and pitying them for getting stuck with [[FanService cheesecake duty]]. Glossing over a description of a road that moves to take you back to the start as a metaphor for success in society, Hinagiku easily runs down it before they even finish. Then it wrapped up rather quickly while explaining that Hina thrashed the card army and [[CodeGeass established the United States of Japan]]. And everyone lived HappilyEverAfter.

** Hayate himself is rather frightening when you realize that he's actually the most cynical member of the cast (bar maybe Yukiji) and can at times be downright cold with that very same smile and pleasant-looking face. [[spoiler: In the Segawa Arc, during his sword fight with Kotetsu in the lava pit it was especially obvious as he stated rather cheerfully and casually that he was seriously trying to kill Kotetsu as it was supposed to be a fight to the death after all]]. It seems that [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome his most awesome moments]] come when he either summons his GlowingEyesOfDoom or invoking this and being a surprisingly cold Badass.

** When Hayate feels like it, he can be a total BadAss as seen [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Hayate_Six_Swords_5716.png here]]. His list of defeated opponents include robots, the yakuza, giant robots, the mafia, humongous robots, ghosts/demons, various thugs, monsters pulled straight out of Greek Myth, and a noble spirit [[spoiler: of King Midas]]. There is definitely a reason that he's called a Franchise/{{Gundam}}.

** By Chapter 500, this might just be turning into a SupportingHarem after 10+ years. The main LoveTriangle seems to be [[spoiler: Hinagiku x Hayate x Nagi]]. Most of the other LoveInterests seem to be more and more just acting as supporting characters, and recent chapters have only really given focus to [[spoiler: Hinagiku's and Nagi's feelings]]. What could tip the situation into a SupportingHarem would be [[spoiler: Hinagiku receiving heavy focus on her feelings, and more moments with Hayate that don't end in a punchline. It has also been explicitly stated that there is a "bomb" between Hayate and Nagi as they lack "love". Hayate paying off his debt and telling Nagi that he will stay on as her butler has lit the fuse as Nagi believes Hayate truly loves her, Hinagiku has been wondering if her feelings will ever reach Hayate and has just seen him choose Nagi even without the debt, and soon there will be an explosion of negative energy that will open the gates to the Royal Palace once again]]. It's not over yet, but the "Harem" may be considerably thinned after this.
