* ProfessionalWrestling: Dwayne and Steve [aka "The Rock" and "Stone Cold Steve Austin" of WWE fame] appear as more main characters in Part 1, meeting Dusty when he's grabbed by the strange portals. The story tends to reference the two in their real-life personas for the most part, in which the two wrestlers are actually best friends, although Part 12 has an actual wrestling event in their honor which shows off some various Wrestling-related bravado on their part, and introduces the real-life counterparts of many other wrestlers. They too are techincally RealLife characters, but like the rest of the RealLife-based cast, learn most of the same Dragonball-equse abilities and fighting styles. However as always, they tend to incorporate their own styles into it. When Heero is dismissive of wrestling moves being used in real fights, the two of them as well as Dusty and Devin explain that wrestling moves used on a realistic basis can deal devastating damage to a real opponent [i.e. Dwayne performing a Rock Bottom on an airborne enemy can deal serious neck-damage and possible kill them in one move if used correctly].
** Also, there's the fact most of the original characters are big-time wrestling fans, although Dusty and Dan are by far two of the biggest fans of the original eight starter characters, to the point Dusty is even seen training with Steve and Dwayne often.
** Also of course, there's the Gund Arena event in Part 12, which also introduces the main characters to many other wrestlers and even VinceMcMahon himself.

* NotSoHarmless: Oyatsu. In frackin' spades, man. Although in Part 10 when he first appears as a cat, he seems harmless until Dan picks up him and Oyatsu possesses him via direct contact. It's then learned Oyatsu was not only shadowing most of the Misfits since Part 2, but that he's also sown other seeds of discourse, including somehow getting his hands on Goku's original space ship from the Dragonball series' Namek Saga, and starting Rowan on a path of MyKungFuIsStrongerThanYours as well, in order to possibly rival the Misfits later on.

The Misfits is a FanFiction story by Jack Walker, also known as Lord Misfit in certain circles. It is a MegaCrossover, combining elements from RealLife circa 2001 and beyond, Dragonball, GundamWing, Earthbound, Breath of Fire 2, and many other media of various types, although the main focus is on Real Life mixed with the Dragonball elements. It was first developed in August-September of 2001, and although has been on hiatus for a number of years due to Walker's focus on other game mod-related projects, it has not been completely abandoned.

** The story disavows the actual events of Dragonball GT, while maintaining a couple of its concepts. Additionally, Uub has not appeared yet, although he would have by now in the canon Dragonball continuity.

A few scenes later, she nearly kills [[JerkAss Jackson [=McCarakins=]]] by smashing him against the wall and nearly strangulating him, as she yells in his face about the crap she had to endure in her life, and that, compared to her, he's gone through nothing. Luckily for him, Paula stops Nina from going too far, and she releases Jackson to run away in terror.

* DemonLordsAndArchDevils: The cloaked 'human'-like demon in both the prologue and Part 4 seems to be one of the main daemonlord's chief generals, or at the very least he's above most of the rest of the Legions of Hell that serve the daemonlord. It is also implied that the unnamed daemonlord might be a creature above the level of Satan himself and that Satan would piss himself in fear in the guy's presence.

* FryingPanOfDoom: Paula's melee weapon is one of these, taken straight out of EarthBound. However which type of frying pan from that game she wields at the current moment isn't specified (be it a normal Frying Pan or the rare-drop Magic Frying Pan). Sources seem to indicate it's one of the weaker variations.

** She actually uses it on Clint in Part 1 when they first meet [while the portals are throwing the original characters around], literally throwing it at him and smacking him dead in the face for a one-hit KO. This was because people were panicking to her that Clint seemed to be a possible threat to them due to how he suddenly appears resembling how aliens from EarthBound appeared out of thin air. She apologizes to him later when everyone returns to Tokyo and he recovers, but Clint is still for a while left secretly afraid of her doing it to him again.

* HardWorkHardlyWorks: See Cant Catch Up above.
* HeelFaceTurn: Radditz, a minor villain in the first saga of Dragonball Z [Goku's evil older brother], has chosen the path of redemption after 20 years of being dead and watching his brother and Vegeta pave a path to the future for the remaining Saiya-jin. Thanks to Nina's trip through the strange portals in Part 1 of the story, he is taken back to the living world by fluke of nature [or was it...?] and resurrected for free, giving him a chance to redeem himself for his mistakes. Thanks to Goku and even Vegeta, they give him that second chance. Ever since then, Radditz geniunely tries his best to help his brother and former prince train their new students/friends, and even gets a part-time job at a [=McDonalds=] in Canton Townshop in order to try to raise money to support their train efforts. Among other efforts is training Dan and then Teresa to be better fighters and also trying to plant a Sensu plant to stem off the problem of limited sensu beans, although the plan's been stagnated to a degree.

*** On an additional note, Part 11 has Clint accidentally bumping into his art teacher, Mr. (Christopher) Bergert, at a video store he would visit when he still lived in the main city of Canton. ** In The Misfits, it's stated that being shrunken down decreases the victim's PowerLevel by a factor depending on size. Oyatsu builds a gun of sorts that shrinks it's targets even more effectively [further reducing powerlevel to about 1/1000th of it's normal amount for the victim], which he uses successfully to defeat almost all the major characters with exception to Mr. Buu, Nina, Teresa and #18 [the latter two of which finally help to bring down Oyatsu in that conflict].
*** Footnotes suggest the shrinking gun is based off Duke Nukem 3D's Shrinker weapon. Makes sense considering the author says he plays that particular game.
**** In fact, when Oyatsu attacks Clint, Devin, Dusty, Dwayne and Steve, Clint realizes the nature of the gun this way and tries to reflect the shrinking beam with a broken piece of mirror [the Duke Nukem 3D gun's shots will reflect off mirrors], unfortunately, Oyatsu is Crazy Prepared and his overcoat is made of a reflective material which re-reflects the shot back and shrinks Clint anyways. Bleh.

* JerkAss: Jackson [=McCarakins=], nicknamed "Jackass" by most of the Original Misfits, is pretty much a neutral variant of this. Whether he's just a jerk or really more evil is unknown, but he has done many things that put him on this list. He was once Alex's good friend when both were children, but when Alex's Cerebral Palsy [which he was magically cured of a couple of months before the story started] reared it's head, Jackson turned on him and started making him out as a disabled freak, much to Alex's anger, also getting Vernon and Devin turned against Jackson as well. Later on, when Nina appearantly started going to the original characters' high school, Jackson targeted her for her wings, which by normal Real Life standards would label her a type of mutant [even though she's not even human to begin with], and she is frequently given trouble for it. Later, Nina is revealed to have healed Alex of his Cerebal Palsy by using her magic to cure various synaptics in his brain. When Alex flaunts the sudden change in Jackson's face, it increases the jerk's anger at both of them, Alex specifically because Jackson believed once you're deemed useless, you remain useless always and can never bounce back, and Nina because her healing of Alex destroyed a significant part of Jackson's credibility with his yesmen and mooks and made some of them defect from him. Even after Nina nearly comes to killing him out of rage for his disregard of the 9/11 victims and their losses, he still has the venom to accuse Nina of already being a murderer, to her shock.

*** Also, Psychic Powers exist in the form of PK/PSI, although at this point in time only Paula can use them, although Clint is aware of their existence as well. Thes are also separate from both Ki and Magic.
**** In fact, Part 9 establishes that Ki, Magic and PK all have their own separate Power Levels from one another, and that in a theoretical battle, Nina can one-shot Goku with a well placed magic attack if she sneaks up on him since his "magicpowerlevel" is very low compared to Nina's, but that Goku could also one-shot Nina with most of his stronger ki attacks at that point if he's not holding back.

** Additionally in Part 12, Vegeta, using a computer given to him and Goku by Vernon as a welcoming present, he discovers of the Dragonball GT franchise, which is considered non-canon to the original characters, and it completely baffles Vegeta, since none of the events depicted in GT have even started happening to them yet, but it does raise alarm bells about some things [the possiblity that the "Black Star Dragonballs" exist, the possiblity of the original Dragonballs overloading on evil energy from the wishes, and especially of the Super Saiya-jin 4 transformation, which has not been attained officially by any of the actual characters yet]. With the knowledge of a possible future in his mind, Vegeta of all people doesn't want to take too many risks, and even more so believes the Super Saiya-jin 4 level is still possible despite thinking like most Real World fans of the series that most of GT is crap and not to be taken seriously.
** In Part 11, it's also discovered that at least Clint seems to recognize both Nina and Paula as each having thought to have been just 'video-game characters', and accidentally blurts something in Paula's earshot that makes her eventually force him to tell her about the existance of the EarthBound video game, and of the events it depicts. Paula is at the least a bit surprised.

* PowerLevels: Revived extensively in the story compared to DBZ, where Power Levels dropped off the map after the Frieza saga. * PracticalJoke: Part 5 is devoted to these. First off is Jason and Clint's "voice serum" joke, which ends up giving Alex, Devin and Vernon a Helium Speech moment. Unfortunately for them, Paula is able to sense their location via ki sensory, and punished them via her Frying Pan of Doom for it. Virgil is found by them and gets a decent beatdown from everyone with the exceptions of Vernon [who secretly admires Virgil's bravery and would rather kick the crap out of Alex instead of him anyday], and Paula [who actually telekeneticly places Virgil back on his couch at home and gives him half of a sensu bean, but warning him not to pull such a trick again.

They too are techincally Real Life characters, but like the rest of the Real Life-based cast, learn most of the same Dragonball-equse abilities and fighting styles.

** Additionally, Paula has a somewhat-empathic form of Mind Reading which is automatic and will pick up on the thoughts of various characters if fate deems it so. She cannot usually control this and the people in question are never usually aware she can even hear their thoughts since she is not actively trying to read them when this kicks in. It helps her initally avoid falling for one of Oyatsu's traps in Part 10.
** Oyastu!Dan also shows some ability to use direct Mind Reading on Radditz in Part 10 as well. It's not known if Oyatsu can do it without possessing someone or not yet.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: And how? So far the majority of the series is centered around the more veteran characters [Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, etc] training the greenhorn, newer characters [Alex, Clint, Jason, Vernon, etc, etc] and trying to teach them to get along better with one-another, and to not hold back information from each other, and even the veteran characters are being exposed to things they're complete newbies at. The kicker is that according to The Voice in Part 1, a great evil is mobilizing and out to tear the universe itself asunder [or at least we assume], and it's looking likely the daemonlord from the prologue is said 'darkness' the voice is talking about.

** Additionally, Paula has a somewhat-empathic form of Mind Reading MindReading which is automatic and will pick up on the thoughts of various characters if fate deems it so. She cannot usually control this and the people in question are never usually aware she can even hear their thoughts since she is not actively trying to read them when this kicks in. It helps her initally avoid falling for one of Oyatsu's traps in Part 10.
** Oyastu!Dan also shows some ability to use direct Mind Reading MindReading on Radditz in Part 10 as well. It's not known if Oyatsu can do it without possessing someone or not yet.

* ReadingsAreOffTheScale: Done once with Radditz's original scouter in Part 10 when Oyatsu!Dan powers up intentionally to overload it. Averted later in the above explaination under Power Levels with the [=OverClocked=] Scouters.
* Reincarnation: So far averted, as Uub [the reincarnation of Majin Buu at the end of DBZ] was suggested to have never appeared according to Goku's exposition of his life to Paula in Part 12. It's unknown if Uub's appearance is just delayed or another example of FanonDiscontinuity between the events of the original Dragonball series and the universe of it used in the story.

** Part 6 has a reveal of it's own for Clint, when he's trying to save his friends from the experimental Time Bomb Al-Queda made Teresa wear as a final measure for killing Dan. He unconsciously achieves Super Saiya-jin as well during his upward ascent into the outer atmosphere to throw the bomb harmlessly into space, but after the direct reveal is shown, it's also learned Clint is not Saiya-jin in any known or visible way. #17's scanners, which show the Saiya-jin DNA of Alex, Jason and Vernon, don't show any foreign DNA samples in Clint [aka he's still human as far as the characters are currently concerned], and Clint's hair as an [=SSJ=] also has a slight tinge of green. It's not yet known what the deal is with Clint's real heritage, except that he recalls seeing Alex and Vernon become [=SSJ=]s in Part 5 while waiting with Jason to play their voice-serum prank.

* ThrowingOffTheDisability: Alex lived the majority of his life before the story begins with Cerebal Palsy, a condition which can have a varying level of effect on the mind's capability to manipulate various limbs and also their muscular strengths. In Alex's case, it was his legs that were the most affected. It manifested uglily for him in grade school, causing former friend [now Jerk Ass] Jackson [=McCarakins=] to betray him and try to frame him as a freak, and additionally forcing him to use a wheelchair to get around on extended trips [he could still most of the time walk around (albeit a bunch hunched over) when at home, but got tired easily]. Later on in his life, after Nina arrives to his High-School, she discovers she possesses the curative ability to heal his synapses enough to break the crippling disability from Alex's life once and for all, even though Alex must rehabilite his legs himself in order to truly regain their strength. He is still somewhat in the middle of the rehabilitation process at the beginning of the story, causing his movement speed to be a bit lower than some characters expect, and Vegeta and Goku are aware of it, but they realize he could've been in a far worse situation where he might not have been able to train to fight at all.
* TimeBomb: In Part 6, the Al-Queda operative watching Teresa's forced attempt to kill Dan managed to arm a special experimental bomb attached to her as he kills himself with his own bomb. The bomb is supposed to have a power capable of hitting a 12 mile area with the explosion [a sort of nuke, but with no radiation effects]. Teresa rips it off in defeat, thinking everyone's screwed, but Clint decides to grab it and flies straight up into the sky like a rocket, to the protest of the others, intending to make a Heroic Sacrifice to save his friends. The bomb is armed to detonate in 30 seconds, and the final 10 or so seconds are shown ticking down in the story as Clint suddenly gets a boost to his power and it allows him to both throw the bomb to a safe spot where it won't hurt anyone, and him to clear the explosive radius in time, although it still knocks him out of flight mode and almost gets him killed anyways.

She get bonus scorn from most of the students at her friends high-school, the hate being directed by Jackson McCarakins, who has a special place in his black heart for hating her, for some unknown reason. Luckily for him, the problem with Oyatsu diverts Paula's attention before he can answer her question, although there is a possiblity she might have unintentionally overheard his thoughts via her uncontrollable Mind Reading ability, but she hasn't said anything about it.

[This is Clint, Alex, Jason, Vernon, Devin, Dusty and Dan's hometown, which is probably the main reason]. Also shown is Nina's house, Dan's house, Alex's house [who also has a house next door that Goku and Vegeta have rented out, owned by Alex's Dad], Vernon's house as well is shown.

* GangBangers: Introduced in Part 11 are Rowan, Harry and Morgan, three members representing the Crips. A member of the Bloods is named [Jose] as well by Rowan. It turns out Oyatsu visited with Rowan long back at the beginning of the merger [between Part 2 and Part 3's timeframe] and revealed the implications of the merger and all the changes to the rules of physics and whatnot it brought. Due to this, Rowan reveals he can both use ki and some magic, thanks to a strange jade-gemmed ring that seems to grant him limited control of wind-elemental magic. Also, Part 11 reveals that the Crips are using various abandoned houses in Clint's original neighborhood, including his first house, to store away supplies and other things to assist them in what might be an incoming gang war. Items found in Clint's house include some money in a small metal case, the aforementioned jade ring Rowan obsessed over, and several bottles of a strange drug later identified by Vegeta in Part 12 as "Destronic Powder", a powder which can be converted into gas or vapor that can cut off most beings' access to ki-usage and cause their powerlevels to become irratic. Vegeta assumes this drug is meant to be used with the wind-elemental magic Rowan used to spread chaos in some form, but how it would be used is not yet known.
* GenreSavvy: Clint, Alex, Jason, Vernon, Devin, Dusty and Dan have in their original version of the Real World watched the Dragonball series on multiple occasions, with Clint and Alex [and sometimes Devin] vying for who knows the absolute most on the subject. Due to this, they tend to know what will come when the Z-characters do specfic things in front of them. In one example, Devin lampshades the annoyance of various characters getting into a "constipated"-looking stance when powering up or transforming [much like when Virgil first tries to use his ki to fly in Part 8].

Vernon want's to both improve himself and become more available to the ladies, and Jason is more just seeking to be seen as a hero, not so much to get attention, or so he says. Their want for this is even told to Teresa by Radditz in Part 8 as a reason they took to the call as Misfits.

* JerkAss: Jackson [=McCarakins=], nicknamed "Jackass" by most of the Original Misfits, is pretty much a neutral variant of this. Whether he's just a jerk or really more evil is unknown, but he has done many things that put him on this list. He was once Alex's good friend when both were children, but when Alex's Cerebal Palsy [which he was magically cured of a couple of months before the story started] reared it's head, Jackson turned on him and started making him out as a disabled freak, much to Alex's anger, also getting Vernon and Devin turned against Jackson as well. Later on, when Nina appearantly started going to the original characters' high school, Jackson targetted her for her wings, which by normal Real Life standards would label her a type of mutant [even though she's not even human to begin with], and she is frequently given trouble for it. Later, Nina is revealed to have healed Alex of his Cerebal Palsy by using her magic to cure various synaptics in his brain. When Alex flaunts the sudden change in Jackson's face, it increases the jerk's anger at both of them, Alex specfically because Jackson believed once you're deemed useless, you remain useless always and can never bounce back, and Nina because her healing of Alex destroyed a signficant part of Jackson's credibility with his yesmen and mooks and made some of them defect from him. Even after Nina nearly comes to killing him out of rage for his disregard of the 9/11 victims and their losses, he still has the venom to accuse Nina of already being a murderer, to her shock.

** However, Magic exists as a seperate form of power from Ki, used mainly by Nina and Buu, although Vernon and Radditz also prove to have at least one magically-powered attack later in Parts 8 and 9.
*** Also, Psychic Powers exist in the form of PK/PSI, although at this point in time only Paula can use them, although Clint is aware of their existance as well. Thes are also seperate from both Ki and Magic.
**** In fact, Part 9 establishes that Ki, Magic and PK all have their own seperate Power Levels from one another, and that in a theoretical battle, Nina can one-shot Goku with a well placed magic attack if she sneaks up on him since his "magicpowerlevel" is very low compared to Nina's, but that Goku could also one-shot Nina with most of his stronger ki attacks at that point if he's not holding back.

* DemonLordsAndArchDevils: The cloaked 'human'-like demon in both the prologue and Part 4 seems to fall under as one of the main daemonlord's chief generals, or at the very least he's above most of the rest of the Legions of Hell that serve the daemonlord. However it's slightly implied the unnamed daemonlord might be a creature above the level of Satan himself and that Satan would piss himself in fear of the guy's presence.
* DemotedToExtra: So far seems to be being avoided, although Nina lampshades this at one time to Paula in Part 8, thinking that being female that they'll suffer a disadvantage compared to the other characters over time. So far it's not known if her words will ring true or not.
** Teresa is doing her damndest to avoid this herself, having [at least for now] surpassed Heero after a heated spar between him and her in Part 12, although some think her 'Spirit Body' technique is partially responsible in a recent upsurge in power she received recently.
* DoppelgangerAttack: First variation is seen in Part 12, a Mes A Crowd type which is actually Piccolo Split-Form Technique which he uses to divide himself into as many as seventeen selves, the original Piccolo having half his usual powerlevel while the other 16 divide the remaining half of his powerlevel among themselves. The technique is used to sic 6 on Alex, 5 on Vernon and 5 on Jason as a special type of multi-on-one training-excercise/punishment.
** Mr. Buu does this in the same scene as Piccolo does in Part 12, using his strange, putty-like body and divides into two halves for the purpose of sparring between both sides.
** A Hard Light example appears with Teresa's "Spirit Body" ability, first introduced in the early half of Part 9. This ability allows Teresa to summon a ki-created duplicate [or more than 1] of herself that works in a slight vein to the above split-forms, but with only a slight loss of powerlevel between Teresa and any of her created duplicates (only a 10% loss of overall powerlevel for each duplicate, instead of the powerlevels being evenly divided). These duplicates can appear as mere ki spirits [like the original Kamikaze Ghost Attack in the Buu Saga], or be spawned with a realistic color scheme [but not innards, as shown in Part 10 when Oyatsu!Dan guts an energy clone, only for it to have no insides). Once finished, the spirits will return to energy form and Teresa and re-absorb it back into herself. Also a peculiar technique in that after this final action, Teresa's powerlevel actually increases to a random % past what she had before she created the duplicates in the first place, and such allows her to suddenly experience a near 35% boost to her powerlevel once in Part 12 during a spar with Heero, bringing her from struggling against him to being able to defeat him comfortably. Also, the energy duplicates can use Kaioken and do their own attacks [based off Teresa's own knowledge] in addition to all of this.
* EmergencyEnergyTank: Sensu Beans from Dragonball carry over into the story, and Radditz even gets an idea to take a bean he receives and has tried to grow a sensu plant with it. So far he appears to be only have minimal success, but only time will tell...

* CallingYourAttacks: In some situations in the story, it's played straight with ki-based attacks, but Paula's PK/PSI abilities don't require her to shout or call out the names before use, making it a nasty surprise for some of her enemies. Nina can also shift between this and not calling out names for her Magic Attacks.
* [=~Can't Catch Up~=]: Not fully known if the story intends to avert this or not, but suggestions from a mysterious voice in Part 1 that speaks to Dwayne, Dusty and Steve seems to suggest the possiblity [at least in Dan's mind] that the old 'limits' of humans [and Saiyans] can be broken out of. Dan even goes as far as to call the Z-fighter humans 'weak of will', to Piccolo's amusement, leading to a bet that if any pure human can reach of Power level of 45,000 or higher in one month, he'll teach them some of his more reserved techniques. Piccolo soon finds out that his bet is not going in his favor as the story progresses on.
** In Part 4, Piccolo actually realizes Paula is already well beyond 45,000, having a starting powerlevel of almost one million [which still rises over the story to about 3 million-somthing in Part 12], and appearing to possess not a shred of Saiyan blood or any non-human DNA, although her situation isn't officially held against Piccolo, it still leading to the suggestion this trope might end up being averted in the long run.
* CharlesAtlasSuperPower: In the later half of Part 12, the story actually seems to touch somewhat on the subject of how characters who had only powerlevels of 8 to 12 (or 100ish in the case of Steve and Dwayne) are able to reach powerlevels of 1,000 to 10,000 within anywhere from 1 day to a full week of training: Unlocking access to one's ki directly allows training that normally only marginally increases powerlevel to substantially increase it due to the freed ki being able to allow the body's ability to grow quickly. Appearantly this explains how the original characters [sans Nina] at the level of a normal human can grow to powerlevels beyond Saiya-jin Saga Vegeta within less than a week's time. Oh, that and the teachers/masters training them also helps a lot too, along with said teacher/master's experience and knowledge. Go figure.
* ChunkyUpdraft: Not quite as used in the story compared to the original Dragonball series though. It's explained by some that a possible reason is that the merged 'Earth' is far far far stronger and durable compared to Dragonball's original version of Earth, which is like a wet paper-towel in durability.
* CrazyPrepared: Oyatsu takes this and runs with it. In his first major move against the Misfits in Part 10, not only does he possess Dan to mask his presense, but he has a Shrinking ray to reduce the powerlevels of the heroes if needed, he also has a Static Stun Gun to restrain and paralyze enemies, specialized "[=Overclocked Scouters=]" to gauge the powerlevels of his enemies ahead of time, a reflective overcoat to deflect attempts to redirect his shrinking ray back at him, sunglasses in case one of the heroes attempts the Taiyoken [Solar Flare] technique, a specialized curse that will seal and lock out the use of any Saiya-jin's Super Saiya-jin levels for 12 hours at once, confining them to their normal forms, but also has a ton of knowledge of the strongest of the heroes he must take down and knows how to manipulate some of their feelings and intentions [using Dan's possessed body to discourage the much-stronger Goku and Vegeta from attacking him out of risk of killing Dan and psyching them out], and a Dangerous Forbidden Technique [the Mafuba/Evil Containment Wave] to deal with Mr. Buu, who cannot be shrunken down or paralyzed by the above. The only reasons Oyatsu's plan fail is because he didn't consider Teresa a full-blown Misfit, and was not aware of #18's impending arrivial on the scene, both of which end up bringing his plans to a halt.
** But even then, Oyatsu easily escapes by using Kibitokai's instanteous movement to teleport to safety. It's also later learned in Part 11 he found other people and informed them of the implications of the merger, specfically Rowan, who has accquire a taste for as well, now knowing how to use Ki and Magic as well. The shapeshifting cat-thing still has much steam left in his engine to show, and it's all but certain the Misfits will confront him again later.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Goku, the same was as in Dragonball
* Curse: In Part 10, Oyatsu!Dan creates a temporary curse known as the "Durty Durt Dur Curse", based off of one of Jason and Alex's joking prods at people in High-School. The curse's effects are that any person that hears or speaks the words "Durty Durt Dur" in their earshot during the duration of the curse will lock out any Super Saiya-jin related forms they might have for 12 hours, reverting back to their base/normal forms on force. A loophole to it though is that if any Saiya-jin then attains the original Super Saiya-jin transformation for the first time after the curse is invoked will be exempt from the effects of the curse, as Oyatsu!Dan demonstrates by forcing Dan to his first Super Saiya-jin level after invoking the curse, rendering it useless on him.
** One note is that Clint's strange version of Super Saiya-jin does not completely fade away from use when he's affected by the curse directly in the battle with Oyatsu!Dan, but it does weaken his powerlevel by more than 50% of it's maximum and it's still enough for Dan to overcome and defeat him.
** The curse is so potent that even Super Saiya-jin 3 Goku is taken all the way down to base form, along with Vegeta at Super Saiya-jin 2 level.
** It's generally accepted that without the curse, Oyatsu!Dan would've probably been defeated long back at the start of his plan, as Radditz's SSJ was stronger than Oyatsu!Dan's, and even getting past him, Paula and a fully powered up Alex [who's assistance was minimized in the actual fight due to the curse] would probably taken him down through teamwork. Even getting past that, Clint, Devin and the others in that group would've outnumbered him and Clint would have a major advantage especially when Devin would've gone into his desperate shadow-based powerup mode.
* CursedWithAwesome: Nina is the best example so far of this. Not only does she possess a pair of large, bird-like wings, but she's also very tall compared to most women and some men in the Real Life version of Earth. [To put it into perspective, she's 6 feet, 6 inches tall (or 200cm exactly)]. This gives her a problem with most normal people, since they see things from a Real Life perspective even now, and see her wings as a sign of being a mutant freak, and her height as just an extra factor to it [truth is, Nina's obviously not a human, but a Fae, or Windian from the Breath of Fire series, but most others don't know it]. Additionally, even in her own original world, her wings, being a purplish-black, were propheized to be a bad omen of diaster when in fact they help her in saving her world from a Big Bad in the past.
** The entire "merger of worlds" can be considered this in a way. As even though the merger destroys or rewrites certain rules of physics that make the normal Real World boring, they bring the possibility of serious, world-destroying threats and of course, the possibility of seeing the daemonlord from the prologue and Part 4, among other things.
* CuteBruiser: Teresa seems to fit under this so far. Although she joins the team a bit late [appears first in Part 6 and starts training in Part 7], she shows a quick ability to learn and adapt to the DBZ-like fighting prowess of the other characters, developing a few unique moves to even the veteran characters, and shows an above-average level of natural-physical strength compared to most of the other characters.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: The Mafuba from the original old-school Dragonball shows up as one of Oyatsu's techniques that he uses while in possession of Dan's body. He uses it first to trap a squirrel in a small glass jar, and then later uses it against Mister Buu. And it friggin' WORKS despite the massive difference in powerlevels. However the move only tires Oyatsu!Dan out, and doesn't kill him.
** In Part 11, being under the affects of a curse that seals the Super Saiya-jin transformations of all characters except Dan [who invokes it while under Oyatsu's control], Goku decides to dust off the Kaioken technique, which attracts the attention of Alex and Vegeta, and prompting a part where damn near EVERY available character at least learns the basics of the Kaioken and how to use it, with Radditz and Paula reaching the 2x and 3x levels respectively within a few hours of use.
*** Hell, the story takes it further and actually tries to EXPLAIN how Kaioken is actually utilized and debunks a few myths about it's negative effects, and North Kaio appears to help Goku and the others understand the full nature more, now having mastered a move he once was unable to master despite creating it, explaining he didn't have the right requirements himself at the time in the original Dragonball series to use it, but has since then developed and matured enough to use it like a master [Kaioken times Twenty-Five, anyone?].

* CrowningMomentOfFunny: Part 7 features a side-story where Goku and Vegeta are inspecting the original characters' home city of Canton, Ohio and Vegeta, angry in his own way at the events of 9/11 (which had just happened earlier that day), wants to get drunk to the point of stupidness. Goku reluctantly agrees to let him have his moping, and they find a bar in which Nina happens to also be there also depressed about the day's events and gets to witness Goku and Vegeta getting into a Vodka-drunking contest, in which Goku wins by a hair [although it's implied by both Goku and Vegeta that Goku simply cannot get drunk for some reason, while Vegeta can]. Hilarity Ensues, including a part where Goku and Nina sneak into Goku and Vegeta's rented out house only to find a agitated Piccolo waiting for them in the same way an angry parent waits for their child to get home from being late. Again some hilarity ensues.
** Part 8: Piccolo and #17 are now taking their turns exploring the city of Canton, when #17, being the fun lover he is, wants to try to get Piccolo, the stoic, serious guy he is, to lighten up and have a bit of fun. #17 takes them to a motor lot and buys a pair of motorcycles, in which he goads Piccolo into riding on. This leads to both #17 and Piccolo racing each other down the streets of Canton, with #17 constantly heckling Piccolo to enjoy fun and not to feign being a sourpuss. Piccolo then decides to challenge #17 in a way by having them ki-levitate themselves and their motorcycles onto the roof of a nearby building [a tall one], and have them fly through the air on just a single forward thrust of ki alone and see where they end up. #17 accepts, and the two end up reaching an abandoned stadium where Goku, Vegeta and Mr. Buu are trying to train Alex, Vernon and Jason. Piccolo and #17 land and almost run down Alex, Jason and Vernon and accident before taking back to the skies via ki, still on their motorcycles. Hilarity ensued.
** In Part 9, Radditz ends up with a part-time job at a [=McDonalds=] in the southern township of Canton. Some of the characters probably held in some laughter at seeing a [=McDonalds=] cap in his long, lufty hair at the end of the part, and laughs are played when he takes orders and one specfic order made by the character is blindly guessed [correctly] to be Goku's, to his feigned dismay.
** The story loves to go out of the usual Status Quo for Dragonball-based stories and make some of the Dragonball characters face some hiliarious real-life situations in general. The author was very fond of the driver's test fillar episode for one, and has read other stories about DB characters doing more mundane things in life like drinking and playing sports, and likes mixing it up with these kinds of elements.

* ItWasHisSled: It's recommended you know at least Dragonball pretty well before reading this.)

* NightmareFuel: Some of the explaination of Hell in the prologue as the mysterious daemonlord is introduced. Flesh eating plants that bleed out of their roots anyone?
** Another variant is a small bit where Clint has a small daydream/vision in the middle of a training session in Part 12, where he sees Alex, disfigured and forcibly transformed into a different entity, thinking he is possessed by Giygas, whom Clint learned from Paula might potentially some day make a return from death. This triggers a semi-transformation to Super Saiya-jin 3 which he only holds onto for a split second.
** In the same vein, Part 12 also has Goku explain the origins of his Super Saiya-jin 3 transformation: The Saiya-jin in question must appearantly induce a form of nightmarish visions on themselves. Goku claims in his visions he saw Vegeta, Nappa and Radditz become Super Saiya-jin 2s and start murdering various characters, good guys and villains alike, even describing some of the more horrific ends the villains meet, and then of his own horrifying killing of them, fused into one being when he first becomes Super Saiya-jin 3 in the vision. Also, the strange and unknown voice whispering to Vegeta, Nappa and Radditz in his vision "OBLITERATE, SPREAD, PERSPIRE" over and over is just plain unnerving to Goku, who somehow could also hear it despite it being directed at the other three Saiya-jin.

* WouldntHitAGirl: In part 10, Paula asks Alex if they want to have a small friendly spar to test each other's strength. Alex muses over in his head that he probably shouldn't because his mother drilled it into his head when he was young that he shouldn't physically fight with women. Luckily for him, the problem with Oyatsu diverts Paula's attention before he can answer her question, although there is a possiblity she might have unintentionally overheard his thoughts via her uncontrollable Mind Reading ability, although she hasn't said anything on it. However there's no guarantee this trope will stick to Alex, as Paula is so far the only female character who has asked to have any kind of sparring match or fight with him so far.

The Misfits is a FanFiction story made by Jack Walker, also known by some as Lord Misfit in certain circles, who also created a GameMod for Duke Nukem 3D called Naferia's Reign: Invasion of the Dark Mistress. It is a Mega Crossover, combining elements from Real Life circa 2001 and beyond, Dragonball, Gundam Wing, Earthbound, Breath of Fire 2 as well as many other media of various types, although for now the main focus is on the Real Life mixed with the Dragonball elements, with smaller mixes of the other stuff. It was first developed in August-September of 2001, and although has been in hiatus for some years due to Walker's focus on other game mod-related projects, it has not fully lost it's battle to make a comeback yet.

The story of The Misfits begins on August 29, 2001, in Shibuya-ku (ward) of Tokyo, Japan, where 8 high-school students are on a paid vacation to Japan since their friend Clint Walker won an art contest sponsored by Toonami, allowing him to take seven of his friends with him. All but one of them are a bunch of socially miffed goofballs in one form or another, one of which being a former Cerebal Palsy patient, cured of magical means, and sporting something of an ego trip, just to name an example. Although the eight find some fun and adventure in the land of the rising sun, their lives [as well as the fate of the entire world] soon change when their presense causes a barrage of strange portals to open up around the world, dumping them temporarily into various places thought to be fictional, incluing the worlds of Dragonball and Gundam Wing, and even [supposedly] the realm of Hell briefly [they don't stay long though, thankfully], but meet various characters from said worlds or realms in their travels.

Upon being forcibly returned to their own world, the eight original "Misfits" learn the people and characters they met came back with them, now in what is first believed to be just the Real World again, however it is soon learned, the events of previous have merged the real world with the above mentioned universes in some form or another, and the rules have been rewritten. Naturally this opens the doors to the original 8 characters getting the potential to start their own versions of , among other things.

Of course, the events of the merger have their downsides as the prologue mentions of a terrifying daemonlord from the center of Hell has set his sights on the merged universe and has plans to lay waste to the physical universe... somehow. All this appearantly to just get back at a 'brother' of his or so. Naturally, some of the daemonlord's minions, monitoring the events of the merger, have seen the Misfits and their aspirations to become above the ordinary as a possible threat, and even as things start off, one particular shapeshifting villain seems to have his/her eyes set on destroying the ragtag team before they can bloom from the ground.

The current revision of The Misfits is only 11 and a half parts so far, spanning three 'saga's, but the total word count for a mere twelve parts is nearly 300,000 words long already. The story contains elements of comedy, mixed with a health dose of serious action and drama. A good chunk of scenes so far are either grouped into categories of exposition between two or more characters, school-time segments, general real-life type activities, and finally of course as with any Dragonball-based story... training segments, not all of them quite Training from Hell, but still hard on the newbie fighters at times. All the many newer characters and the less experienced Dragonball-style fighters learning from their own experiences and more experienced teachers.

* Acrofatic: Mr. Buu retains this pudgy/fat build from the Dragonball series, but is still one of the top 3 strongest fighters in the story so far [only Goku and on rare occasions Vegeta are stronger than him thus far].
** Most of the original eight characters from Part 1 [excluding Nina, who's pretty fit, and Vernon, who is a track-runner at his high-school], are in some way overweight or at the least not too properly exercised, but in total, Devin and Virgil are the best alternate examples in their builds of this trope, although Virgil is far less skilled at learning things thus far and shows the "unexercised fat person" part off right now, whereas Devin is particularly clever and sometimes Genre Savvy to a scary degree, not letting his bigger weight really discourage him, and in fact he is slightly toning down some of his weight at this point.
* AdaptationExpansion: Most notably done with some of the Dragonball elements in the story.
** The Kaioken technique, an ability that canonically is no longer used after the Frieza saga of the original series, is not only revived, but is taught to about 80% of the current cast [only Vegeta, Piccolo, Mr. Buu, #17 and #18 refuse for now to learn it]. Not only that, North Kaio even comes to visit Goku as he teaches the other characters, with his own information, and revealing that the finally figured out how to successfully perform his own technique. He explains that the dangers of Kaioken and the damage done to a user's body is based on two seperate things, an "upsurge" of energy that is first experienced when activating the Kaioken or increasing it a level, and then a "constant but lesser drain" which slowly weakens the user further. According to Kaioken, only the upsurge can deal potentially fatal damage to someone, and the "constant drain" will cease when the user is on the brink of death and fade away automatically, to prevent causing death.
*** Additionally, he also explains that the original reason he couldn't use the technique in the past was that his Powerlevel was a little too low to use it (in the story, you have to have a powerlevel of 5,000 or greater, where Kaio was around 4,000 roughly in the series, and that now he's about 15-20 million in powerlevel, and can use Kaioken up to twenty-five times). He also explains that the other requirements to use of the Kaioken are both extensive knowledge of how to both sense and mask one's ki energy, being able to sense one's own energy in order to know when to make the right judgement of when to stop cranking it up, and being able to mask energy to know the principal of reversing the concept of pushing one's powerlevel down and doing the reverse, and shoving it beyond normal amounts consistantly [which is what the Kaioken actually does].
** Another thing expanded on is exactly how Goku was able to become a Super Saiya-jin 3 in the first place during the seven-year period between the Cell Saga and the Buu Saga, when he reveals it to Vegeta and Paula in early Part 12. He explains that the first step is to induce a type of nightmare-like vision or daydream on yourself, and live out the visions to the end, experiencing varying degrees of Nightmare Fuel. In Goku's case, he had to watch a possessed Vegeta, Nappa and Radditz, all three of them Super Saiya-jin 2s (somehow...), and then being commanded by a creepy voice to "OBILTERATE, SPREAD, PERSIRE", and witnesses them killing both Goku's friends, family, and even his enemies [and some of their enemies as well], until Goku gains some control of his dream-form to engage them in battle, eventually becoming a Super Saiya-jin 3 after being mentally overwhelmed for a long time. After killing them, he faces an avatar in the fat Majin Buu's image, and manages in the middle of the battle to divide it into Mr. Buu and Kid Buu, the former half representing Buu's good and the latter half his evil [like in the actual series]. However Goku at the time has lost enough of his rational mind to not be able to differaniate the two and destroys both halves before being awakened by North Kaio and almost attacking him, only to realize his transformation occured physically as well.
*** Vegeta later does this to himself and faces Frieza as the representation of what is holding him back. The dream Frieza is about to destroy his dream form, and Vegeta stops caring about being the strongest of all time and merely wants to drive forward for the sake of the remaining Saiya-jin he knows [Goku, Radditz, Alex, Vernon, Jason, etc], and becomes Super Saiya-jin 3, and kill the Frieza avatar, which was actually Vegeta's fear given a different form. Vegeta then fights a Super Saiya-jin 3 version of his Saiyan Saga counterpart, winning a comfortable victory against him, since the current Vegeta has far more cunning and patience than his younger counterpart, not wasting energy needlessly and destroys him fast, returning to reality in the Super Saiya-jin 3 form, to his major content [he still had been unable to attain the form during the 10 years between the Buu Saga and the story because he didn't know what the do since Goku never told him his own experiences].
* AdultChild: Son Goku is STILL a rare positive example of this trope, as with in the original Dragonball series.
* AirJousting: Just like in Dragonball, fights tend to take place both on the ground and up in the air via Ki energy. The story occasionally has a pair of sparring fighters adapt some interesting variations on this as well.
* AlternateUniverseFic: At least on terms of the Dragonball content, the story disavows the actual events of Dragonball GT, while seeming to carry on a couple of it's concepts [the level of Super Saiya-jin 4 has not been achieved or original even thought of by Goku or Vegeta yet, but after learning about it Vegeta believes somehow it can be done with the right requirements]. The timeline in the Dragonball universe used in The Misfits seems to be about 1 month after the final Tenkaichi Budokai at the end of Z. Additionally, Uub has not appeared yet, despite the fact he would have by now in normal Dragonball continutity. Additionally a whole bunch of other things are suggested to be different about the Dragonball-type universe in question used in the story.
** Part 12 reveals a flashback communicated to Goku, Vegeta and Paula by North Kaio that explains how Oyatsu got his hands on Goku's once-thought-destroyed spaceship on Namek, revealing that Zarbon somehow survives his fatal wound from Vegeta earlier and eventually denounces Frieza's rule and escapes the dying planet in it's final minutes by using Goku's spaceship, left abandoned when everyone was taken from Namek except Goku and Frieza. Eventually, Zarbon meets with Oyatsu, under the alias of "Ryokucha" and sells the spaceship to him for a hefty sum.
* AscendedExtra: Teresa seems to be the first straight example, being a character who showed up in Part 6, and the first few parts of the story she's in seem to indicate she's still deciding whether she plans to be a "full-time Misfit" or not. Oyatsu's plan to use Dan as a puppet to defeat the other Misfits goes sour half because he took too much consideration that Teresa would wimp out and NOT decide to become a Misfit and ignores her as a threat. Big freakin mistake... he loses his cool "OverClocked Scouters" as one of many drawbacks for this, and Teresa holds off Oyatsu!Dan for enough time for #18 to arrive and quickly beat the snot out of Oyatsu!Dan.
** A segment in Part 11 seems to give a minor indication that Mr. (Christopher) Bergert, an art teacher seen only in Part 6 previous to this point will have more appearances, or might even become a higher-ranking character in the story.
* AsLongAsThereIsEvil: In Part 11, Paula explains to Clint that she believes Giygas, despite his appearant demise in EarthBound (partially at her own hands even), will eventually regenerate from nothingness over a unknown period of time and attempt to send all into eternal darkness once again. The reason she believes this is because of Giygas's link to the corruption in the hearts of not just humans, but all creatures, and that their evil will always prevent his total and utter annhilation and eventually revive him from a mindless and formless being into one capable of cognitively acting [even if in a mindless manner like before]. Whether Giygas will actually appear in the story yet hasn't been established, but it seems the idea might be being played with...
* BadAss: Nina in Part 6, where she dashes in from off-screen [although she was vaugely aware something was amiss prior] and GUTS an Al-queda operative who had downed Paula, Dan and Devin, and was trying to kill all of them. She even takes the full brunt of a sucide-vest bomb from the dying operative at point blank range and only gets blasted against the ground a few inches away with less than a couple of bruises and a few ruffled feathers.
** She takes another level in such only a few scenes later when she nearly kills [[JerkAss Jackson [=McCarakins=]]] by smashing him against the wall and nearly strangulating him, as she yells in his face about the crap she had to endure in her life, and that compared to her, he's gone through nothing in comparison. This is karma for Jackson as the story suggests that he has been constantly harassing Nina as a freak due to her wings since she first appear in the main characters' school [which in a Real Life setting would certainly put her in a 'mutant' category]. Luckily for him, Paula stops Nina from going too far, and she releases Jackson to run away in terror.
* BadassLongcoat: Oyatsu!Dan appears the morning after Dan's possession wearing an outfit consisting of a shiny longcoat, and dark sunglasses. The longcoat has a bunch of capsules stored in their pockets, including ones for a Shrinking gun, a Stun cannon, and a new type of scouter known as "[=OverClocked=] Scouters".
** Each item ends up having some use. The sunglasses prevent Oyatsu!Dan from being affected by the Taiyoken [Solar Flare] technique [although no one actually ends up using it AGAINST him, he only uses it against a couple of characters himself]. The Stun Gun is used to restrain and weaken #17 and later restrain Nina as well. The Shrinking gun is used on all the major characters with the exceptions of Mr. Buu, Nina, Teresa and #18. The Scouters are used to allow Oyatsu to scan powerlevels on characters ahead of him to help him plan ahead. And most importantly, the coat is designed to reflect the very same shrinking bolts his own gun fires (Clint tries a Genre Savvy tactic and bounces a shot off a mirror, only for the shot to re-reflect off the coat and hit him back, shrinking him anyways.)
* BeamOWar: Part 5 has a small version of this between Alex and Vernon during a sparring session gotten slightly too serious. Both of them end up firing off Kamehamehas into this situation. However both of them expend their remaining ki energy and the beams dispiate without either getting hit as they pass out and require Goku and Piccolo to relocate them to Alex's couch inside his house.
* BerserkButton: The events that lead to Vernon's transformation into a Super Saiya-jin and The Reveal of his Saiya-jin blood in general during Part 4 might have been one of these. #17 is sparring with Vernon using a somewhat more realistic amount of his power [enough that Vernon really can't "win" in the end and has to play defensive 90% of the time]. The battle ends with #17 downing Vernon, and then deciding to be a bit goofy and play around with Vernon's feelings by pretending to call him worthless and stating he'll finish off Vernon for real. Vernon in his injured haze seems to take this seriously, and he literally goes feral and heals, leading to an upsurge of berserker power and rage that triggers his Super Saiya-jin form. He actually manages to land a decent blow on #17 [at his restrained powerlevel at least], and almost goes on a rampage until Nina manages to arrive and knocks him out of his anger with a surprise blow over the head. Vernon then actually thanks #17 for the "you suck" talk, for triggering his [=SSJ=] level.
** Then there's what [[JerkAss Jackson [=McCarakins=]]] says about the victims of the 9/11 attacks, calling them worthless pigs who wouldn't amount to anything anyways, just after insulting Teresa for choosing her family's lives over Dan's life originally when she had to choose who lived or died, and constantly harassing Alex about his former disability and Nina for her wings. Nina (who generally just ignores Jackson in public) finally snaps on him at last (to Alex's smug content, not liking Jackson either), and almost kills him by smashing him against a wall and nearly strangulating him, screaming at him about the toughness of her past compared to his pampered upbringing, telling him if he wants to hate her, than it should be for something that matters, like perhaps killing him. Luckily, Paula manages to talk sense into Nina before she can go any further, and she releases him to run away like a coward, even as Jackson claims Nina is already a murderer anyways. No one has any clue what he means, but Alex thinks it's just Jackson taking one final shot at Nina as he runs away.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Nina in a way is usually nice and modest, hating to be egotistical and mean for mean's sake, but look above for examples of what she can do when push comes to shove.
* BigBad: The mysterious [and unnamed still] daemonlord from Hell seen in the prologue. Seems to be in command of Oyatsu, who tried his own attack on the Misfits in Part 10, and only marginally failed due to Teresa and #18's interference.
* BigDamnHeroes: #18 in Part 10. She arrives just in time [also her first appearance in the story] to save Nina and Teresa from Oyatsu!Dan's psychotic attempt to wipe them out completely. She three-shots him easily and knocks out Dan's body, forcing Oyatsu to flee Dan's unconscious form and run away. It's almost a Deus Ex Machina moment, except that a small clue is dropped to her possible appearance earlier when Oyatsu is fighting #17 and Piccolo. #17 grumbles out as he passes out from electrical-overload that a female of some form will soon arrive and Oyatsu would go down. #18 and #17 later reveal they had recently established contact with each other as Oyatsu was making his plans, and that #18 was going to be arriving soon.
* BigEater: All the Saiyans, including Alex and Jason. Seen specifically at the end of Part 9 for one example.
* BigGood: Goku, maintaining his 'mentor' like qualities from the end of Z, is this specfically to Alex, Jason and Vernon in particular, especially from Part 5 and on, especially after 9/11 happens.
** Vegeta and Piccolo also fall in this category for the same three goofballs as above.
* BoobsOfSteel: Currently still pretty inverted. Paula is a modest B-C size [according to the bios], #18 is still the same as in the show, and Teresa is also about the same B-C modest size as Paula. Nina on the other hand is currently the largest size [C to D size], but at the same time isn't [at least YET] big on physical combat [but then again, neither is Paula yet, though still a bit more than Nina].
* ButtMonkey: Although there really isn't a butt monkey in the story, sometimes Alex likes to think he is such due to the way things don't like to go his way. Of course, being a Saiya-jin with a pride similar to old-series Vegeta makes him think he's unbeatable against most of his friends anyways.
* ButYourWingsAreBeautiful: In Part 11, there is a part where Nina, Paula and #18 are at the local mall of Canton. #18 is off shopping for clothes, leaving Nina and Paula to roam the mall on their own. Paula asks Nina about Jackson's past with her, and she explains the whole issue to her about how he seems to hate her and call her a freak about her wings. Paula proceeds to call Nina's wing's beautiful, and Nina remarks her friend Katt/Rinpoo (from Breath of Fire 2) said almost exactly the same thing to her once.

* AdultChild: Son Goku is STILL a rare positive example of this trope, as with in the original Dragonball Dragonball series.

The story occasionally has a pair of sparring fighters adapt some interesting variations on this as well.
* AlternateUniverseFic: At least on terms of the Dragonball content, the
story disavows the actual events of Dragonball GT, Dragonball GT, while seeming to carry on maintaining a couple of it's concepts [the level of Super Saiya-jin 4 has not been achieved or original even thought of by Goku or Vegeta yet, but after learning about it Vegeta believes somehow it can be done with the right requirements]. The timeline in the Dragonball universe used in The Misfits seems to be about 1 month after the final Tenkaichi Budokai at the end of Z. its concepts. Additionally, Uub has not appeared yet, despite the fact although he would have by now in normal Dragonball continutity. Additionally a whole bunch of other things are suggested to be different about the Dragonball-type universe in question used in the story.
canon Dragonball continuity.
** Part 12 reveals a flashback communicated to Goku, Vegeta Vegeta, and Paula by North Kaio that explains how Oyatsu got his hands on Goku's once-thought-destroyed spaceship on Namek, revealing that Namek: Zarbon somehow survives survives his fatal wound from Vegeta earlier and eventually denounces Frieza's rule and escapes the dying planet in it's its final minutes by using Goku's spaceship, left spaceship (left abandoned when everyone was taken from Namek except Goku and Frieza. Frieza was taken from Namek). Eventually, Zarbon meets with Oyatsu, under the alias of "Ryokucha" "Ryokucha", and sells the spaceship to him for a hefty sum.

Teresa seems to be the first straight example, being a character who showed up in Part 6, and the first few parts of the story she's in seem to indicate she's still deciding whether she plans to be a "full-time Misfit" or not. Oyatsu's plan to use Dan 6 as a puppet to defeat the other Misfits goes sour half because he took too much consideration that Teresa would wimp out and NOT decide to become minor character, but ends up playing a Misfit and ignores her as a threat. Big freakin mistake... he loses his cool "OverClocked Scouters" as one of many drawbacks for this, and Teresa holds off Oyatsu!Dan for enough time for #18 to arrive and quickly beat the snot out of critical role in defeating Oyatsu!Dan.
** A segment in Part 11 seems to give a minor indication indicates that Mr. (Christopher) Bergert, an art teacher previously seen only in Part 6 previous to this point 6, will have more appearances, or appearances and might even become a higher-ranking character in the story.
more major character.
* AsLongAsThereIsEvil: In Part 11, Paula explains to Clint that she believes Giygas, despite his appearant apparent demise in EarthBound (partially at her own hands even), Earthbound, will eventually regenerate from nothingness over a unknown period of time and attempt to send all into eternal darkness once again. The reason she She believes this is because of Giygas's link to the corruption in the hearts of not just humans, but all creatures, and that creatures; their evil will always prevent his total and utter annhilation annihilation and will eventually revive him from a mindless and formless being into one capable of cognitively acting [even (even if in a mindless manner like before]. Whether Giygas will actually appear in the story yet hasn't been established, but it seems the idea might be being played with...

She Paula, Dan, and Devin. Nina even takes the full brunt of a sucide-vest suicide-vest bomb from the dying operative at point blank range and only gets blasted against the ground a few inches away with less than a couple of bruises and a few a few ruffled feathers.

few scenes later when later, she nearly kills [[JerkAss Jackson [=McCarakins=]]] by smashing him against the wall and nearly strangulating him, as she yells in his face about the crap she had to endure in her life, and that that, compared to her, he's gone through nothing in comparison. This is karma for Jackson as the story suggests that he has been constantly harassing Nina as a freak due to her wings since she first appear in the main characters' school [which in a Real Life setting would certainly put her in a 'mutant' category].nothing.
And most importantly, the coat is designed to reflect the very same shrinking bolts his own gun fires (Clint tries a Genre Savvy tactic and bounces a shot off a mirror, only for the shot to re-reflect off the coat and hit him back, shrinking him anyways.)
longcoat.
* BeamOWar: Part 5 has a small minor version of this this: A sparring session between Alex and Vernon during a sparring session gotten slightly becomes too serious. Both of them end up firing fire off Kamehamehas into this situation. However Kamehamehas; however, both of them expend their remaining ki energy and the beams dispiate dissipate without either getting hit as they pass out and require Goku and Piccolo to relocate them to Alex's couch inside his house.
hit.
* BerserkButton: The events that lead to Vernon's transformation into a Super Saiya-jin and The Reveal of his Saiya-jin blood in general during Part 4 might have been one of these. #17 is sparring with BerserkButton:
**
Vernon using a somewhat more realistic amount of his power [enough that does not like being called worthless. When #17 calls him that, Vernon really can't "win" in the end and has to play defensive 90% of the time]. The battle ends with #17 downing Vernon, and then deciding to be a bit goofy and play around with Vernon's feelings by pretending to call him worthless and stating he'll finish off Vernon for real. Vernon in his injured haze seems to take this seriously, and he literally goes feral and heals, leading to an upsurge of berserker power and rage that triggers gains his Super Saiya-jin form. He actually manages to land a decent blow on #17 [at his restrained powerlevel at least], and almost goes on a rampage until form.
**
Nina manages to arrive and knocks him out of his anger with a surprise blow over the head. Vernon then actually thanks #17 for the "you suck" talk, for triggering his [=SSJ=] level.
** Then there's what [[JerkAss Jackson [=McCarakins=]]] says about
does not appreciate those who insult the victims of the 9/11 attacks, calling them worthless pigs who wouldn't amount to anything anyways, just after insulting Teresa for choosing her family's lives over Dan's life originally when she had to choose who lived or died, and constantly harassing Alex about his former disability and Nina for her wings.

* BigBad: The mysterious [and unnamed still] (and still unnamed) daemonlord from Hell seen in the prologue. Seems to be in command of Oyatsu, who tried his own attack on the Misfits in Part 10, and only marginally failed due to Teresa and #18's interference.
prologue.

Of course, being a Saiya-jin with a pride similar to old-series Vegeta makes him think he's unbeatable against most of his friends anyways.
category.
* ButYourWingsAreBeautiful: In Part 11, there is a part where Nina, Nina explains to Paula and #18 are at the local mall of Canton. #18 is off shopping for clothes, leaving Nina and Paula to roam the mall on their own. Paula asks Nina about that Jackson's past with her, and she explains the whole issue to her about how he Jackson]] seems to hate her and call calls her a freak about because of her wings. Paula proceeds to call then calls Nina's wing's beautiful, and Nina remarks that her friend Katt/Rinpoo (from [[BreathOfFire Breath of Fire 2) 2]]) said almost exactly the same thing to her once.

* Discontinuity: GT does not occur in this story, as it begins [in Dragonball's time frame] about one month after the tournament that ends DBZ, but that Uub is strangely absent for some reason and that appearantly according to Vegeta and Goku in Part 12, Mirai Trunks has returned to the main timelime and even can use the Super Saiya-jin 3 form, where the original series didn't even have him make it to [=SSJ2=] prior. Also, the 'universe' from which the Z-Warriors came from in relevance to the Misfits universe seems to have other differences. Paula was [somehow] Goku's best childhood friend instead of Kuririn [who isn't acknowledged as having existed yet], among other things. Goku has been seen thinking that the original characters [most of whom watched the anime form of DBZ and think they know all there is to know about the DBZ characters] will be in for some rattling surprises down the road.
** Also in Part 12, it's revealed that Zarbon survived his battle with Vegeta on Namek due to a unanticpated healing factor and manages to use Goku's abandoned space ship to escape Namek not long before it explodes. Due to this, it's assumed he's alive even now at this point in the story, out there somewhere. In fact, it's suggested Zarbon was the one who gave Oyatsu the space ship via a deal for money, not with any evil intent though, as Zarbon seemed to have throw aside his loyalty to Frieza after recovering from near death on Namek. In fact, the story seems to suggest Zarbon has a wife/mate of unknown origin out there as well.
