''The Spectacular Omniverse'' as the name implies, began as a spin-off of Roleplay/TheSpectacularGargoyles [[JournalRoleplay roleplaying community]] on the question-asking site Formspring.
Thanks to a collaboration between [[ComicBook/CaptainAtom Thomeheb]], [[WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}} Dr. Anton Sevarius]], [[WesternAnimation/TheSpectacularSpiderMan The Terrible Tinkerer]], and [[Theatre/TheTempest Prospero]] [[spoiler:all of which was ultimately orchestrated by [[WesternAnimation/YoungJustice The Light]] from [[TheManBehindTheMan behind the scenes]]]], a "Trans-Universal Gateway" was opened in October 2011 that allowed the various [[MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate ethics-deficient scientists]] to access other Universes in order to steal technology and genetic material.
However, what they discovered was far greater than they bargained for: a vibrant cosmos teeming with life; the life of [[MassiveMultiplayerCrossover every single story that has ever been told, both fictional and nonfictional]]. From ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'' to ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'' to ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'' to ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', there appears to be few if any limits as to the worlds accessible by the Gateway.
The roleplay used to span dozens of connected Universes, each with their own casts of heroes and villains. Unfortunately, pretty much all of it has been lost ever since Formsping went bankrupt and was re-acquired by [=OK Cupid=]. Even at its peak, the narrative was scattered between dozens of Formspring accounts, leaving this wiki as the only coherent record of the story for the outsiders.
