Captain Lelouch, [[YouCannotFightFate knowing]] [[MyGreatestFailure the tragedies that]] [[DespairEventHorizon would take place]], [[AvertedTrope cannot do anything]] [[SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong to prevent it from happening again]]]], the series cannot end and [[spoiler: [[InvincibleHero Captain Lelouch cannot die]] [[JustifiedTrope until this occurs]]]].

* TheAtoner: Lelouch initially started out wanting to follow the path of atonement but decides to set it aside after [[spoiler: Mari's death]] in favor of doing whatever it takes to bring down Aizen and [[spoiler: Talbumosuke]]. There are hints that he may return to the path of atonement once when we return to the CodeGeass timeline and one thing is for sure, it will take a lot for him to make up for what he has done for all of the innocent people who suffered under his actions, especially for Euphie and Shirley.

General-in-chief of Britannia's military[[spoiler:, but due to the TemporalParadox she isn't shown to be there until the end of chapter 153]]. [[BreakoutCharacter Cornelia's own arc]] is dedicated to showing [[spoiler:[[StartOfDarkness how she goes from]] [[WideEyedIdealist young and happy military academy student]] to [[PerpetualFrowner scowling]], [[BreakTheCutie ruthless General-in-chief]] by the CodeGeass timeline]]. Cornelia's intelligence is considered second only to [[TheChessmaster Schneizel and Lelouch]]. She is shown to be dedicated to not just [[KnightTemplarBigBrother Euphie, but Lelouch and Nunnally as well]]. She is also [[TheKnightsWhoSaySquee incredibly fond]] of Lelouch's mother Marianne vi Britannia as Euphie had told Lelouch that Cornelia spent many fruitless hours investigating the circumstances surrounding Marianne's death [[spoiler:[[TheStationsOfTheCanon which finally happened at the end of the Rise of the Royal Soldier arc]]]]. [[spoiler:Cornelia also has spiritual power enough to [[ISeeDeadPeople see spirits and Soul Reapers]] shown as early as age 10. Cornelia's arc is also considered the author's [[WordOfDante own]] [[AlternateCharacterInterpretation version]] of Cornelia's backstory. [[spoiler:And he has even said that he has his own other version of how things would play out if she had no spiritual power at all that still keeps most of the backstory intact]].

* BreakoutCharacter: Cornelia was not one of the most important or mainstream characters in CodeGeass, but since she is an EnsembleDarkhorse to the author he is using her [[spoiler:to avoid having to do a TimeSkip between Ichigo going off to college and Zero Requiem]].
