An acolyte that the Ray, Gabe, and Allie meet during their tour of the Temple. Thanks to the new acolytes to be, this didn't pan out (though he did ended up freeing Flametropus for The Choten to snatch up later).

* CrazyPrepared: Has the ability to summon smaller creatures that can play various roles. He frequently takes advantage on this by placing them everywhere as traps.

* AesopAmnesia: Even though they had learnt to respect him in their first appearance, Razorhide and Prickleback start mocking him again in his next appearance.

A sinisterly pragmatic man with values similar to, and yet different from, the other Masters, he and Ray end up developing into each others anti-thesis. Where as Ray only wants to work with and befriend the creatures, The Choten only wishes to see and use them as tools and resources in the utmost sense of the two words. And of course, with an end game goal in mind to TakeOverTheWorld -- both of them]].

* TheNicknamer: The Choten has a shade of this as he refers to Ken Okamoto as "Kenny" and usually addresses Nigel as "Nigel, Old Bean". In Nigel's case this also doubles as an AffectionateNickname.

* PlayingWithFire: It's revealed after her travel to the Darkness Civilization that she actually is more competent with Fire Civilization creatures than Darkness Civilization ones; While she keeps using Razorkinder Puppet, she also starts following that advice, and indeed proves competent with it, to the point where The Choten entrusts her with wielding [[FlamingSword The Sword of Fiery Cataclysm]].

A girl in Ray, Gabe, and Allie's class. Although she comes from a ''very'' poor family, as is noticeable from her threadbear, thrift store-bought clothes and her "wear your hair as-is" style, she's quite sharp and surprisingly good under pressure. She managed to hold her own against the Dream Pirate that Ray was using to scare her, Allie, and Portia and Maribel at a slumber party by fending it off with a fireplace poker. She is endlessly and cruelly teased for her poverty by [[AlphaBitch Portia and Maribel]], especially [[{{Jerkass}} Portia]].

The former Light Civilization Duel Master and former head of San Campion branch of The Order of the Kaijudo Duel Masters, Nigel is a traditionalist at heart. Like the Light Civilization creatures he is an expert on, he prefers structure, order, and tradition. He sticks by the Order's rules, and sees to it that the others stick by them as well. So you can imagine the kinds of conniptions Ray's mere presence gives to this stalwart old bean. Although he does listen to the words of the other Masters, especially Jaha, it never seems to be enough to sway him completely, [[spoiler:as shown during the last handful of season 1 episodes when he switches sides to The Choten under the pretense of having some form of control when the Veil falls. That's what it boils down to for Nigel, control or be controlled. However at the end of season 2 Nigel defects from the Choten's side as he is unwilling to help or allow the Choten to enslave humanity. Nigel was unaware that the Choten wanted to take control of the human world along the Kaiju realm due to the fact that the Choten was deceiving him the entire time.]]

* TheLastStraw: Sasha losing it at the San Campion High school dance [[spoiler:is the last straw before Nigel defects.]]
* NominalHero: He's not intentionally evil and really only wants to protect humanity.

A rather [[CaptainObvious adorable]] Koala-looking Darkness creature who doesn't show up until halfway into episode 6, ''Into the Fire, Part 1''. She was somehow captured by the Fire Civilization and was being prepared as Lord Skycrusher's meal when a captured Allie happened upon her. They bonded right away, and once rescued, Allie was determined not to leave the newly dubbed Squeaky behind. After the ordeal, Squeaky became Allie's creature partner. She's the only one of the trio's creature partners that can't speak English, instead communicating in squeaks, hence her nickname.

* LackOfEmpathy: Especially towards the creatures, whom he dispassionately refers to as "monsters" who's only uses are as a renewable source of energy (their recharging Mana) and warfare.

The primary villain of the show, The Choten was once a Duel Master until he defected their ranks because he felt their rules and way of going about things were to restrictive and archaic. To show this, he took some loyal acolytes, stole away to secret hideout, created new Tech Gauntlets as a more direct and efficient means to summon and control creatures, and began experimenting on creatures in order to use them as a viable energy resource and also to make them stronger. He even managed to obtain a financial backer help pay for all this.

* FreudianExcuse: ''Heart of Darkness'' reveals that she had a big issue with her mother, who kept calling her a "spoiled useless daughter". [[spoiler:She was recruited by The Choten in exchange for the promise to be trained into being able to defeat a Light creature that caused problems in her country.]]

* HumiliationConga: Went from being The Choten's protegee to accumulating defeats, being told more and more of being a disappointment, being left in charge of the most degrading tasks such as cleaning the roof and mucking out the creatures pins, and eventually being downright referred by her boss as "increasingly useless". Then, when she once again tries to prove her value, she is betrayed by her creature, kidnapped by Megaria, forced to fight Allie who defeats her ''again'', and gets a ReasonYouSuckSpeech from Megaria.
