He further explains that this personal vengeance is simply a selfish desire of his, and that since he also plans to fulfill Isshiki's dying wish for him to take on the task of draining the Earth of life there is ultimately no scenario where Konoha will be spared anyway.]]

* LackOfEmpathy: Early on, Kawaki is shown to have a profound lack of affection or interest in the feelings of others, unable to place himself in the shoes of others. As time goes on, he learns to relate his experiences with those of the people around him and grows as a human being. [[spoiler: Subverted in that it's implied to all be a front. While he may understand what others have gone through, he doesn't have the capacity to care, and is dedicated only to his obsession with Naruto. Only Shikamaru seems to realize this, as he recognizes that Kawaki did not flinch when he murdered his 'brother', and later shows no remorse or consideration for his actions.]]

* DoomedByCanon: No matter how many CharacterDevelopment given to him, the time skip shown him destined to be Boruto's enemy and the one who responsible for Konoha's destruction.

* APupilOfMineUntilHeTurnedToEvil: In present, he is proud to be Naruto's student, yet in the Dark future [[spoiler:he possibly killed or at least harmed Naruto]].

* TheComicallySerious: He retains his straight face even when involve with whatever wacky antics around him.

* HistoryRepeats: He leaves the Leaf Village just as Sasuke did, but unlike Sasuke, Mitsuki left to find out who he is, not for power and unlike Sasuke who left for years, Mitsuki was gone for a long, but not incredibly long time and returned to the village willingly and rejoined the team.

* BerserkButton: Mitsuki is an absolute monster to fight, but if Mitsuki ever believes that Boruto's life is in paramount danger, then you're in for a world of hurt. This later extends to Sarada as well.

* LikeASonToMe: Naruto feels that he gained another son since he adopted Kawaki.

* AbsoluteCleavage: A rare male example. Kawaki's future self is seen sporting a wide-open onesie, similar to Sasuke before him.

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Usually PlayedForLaughs. He's far less socially hindered than most examples but his thought process and values are definitely a little out there. Considering who raised him, what do you expect? Best exemplified by his behavior in sparring matches, training exercises, and the Chunin exams, where he is more willing than most to use excessive and dangerous methods against opponents, albeit without malice.
* BlueIsHeroic: His attire consists of a loose-fitting two-toned light and dark blue kimono jacket with billowing sleeves.

* LikeAGodToMe: Mitsuki thinks Boruto is exactly this. Everything and anything that Boruto does Mitsuki finds absolutely fascinating. Despite the mistakes that Boruto makes, Mitsuki observes with great interest and he thinks very highly of his friend. His admiration of Boruto can come off somewhat stalker-ish and creepy, but it's clear that Mitsuki admires Boruto so much that he's the light, the 'sun' of his world. However, he also compares Boruto to a sun, feeling that he can't truly get close to him even though he admires him so much. After his arc, Mitsuki and Boruto stand on much more equal footing, but Mitsuki still holds Boruto in very high regard.

* ShipperOnDeck: In the ''Boruto'' anime, Mitsuki states at two different times that Boruto and Sarada "make a good couple" and had on various occasions commented that the two "get along very well".

* StoryBreakerPower: Even without Sage Transformation, Mitsuki is so adept as a fighter that he can take out most opponents with relative ease. With Sage Transformation, Mitsuki is possibly stronger than most Jonin in the village put together. Most conflicts and fights would be easily solved if Mitsuki would just fight with his full strength if it wasn't for the plot often writing him out of most combat so the conflict ''wouldn't'' be solved in an instant. That said, he also has a few genuine reasons to mitigate usage of Sage Mode. Aside from not wanting to attract more attention/fear from the public at large that could cause problems for Konoha, Mitsuki considers using Sage Mode dangerous to himself as its unclear just how much of it even his supposedly "ideal" body can handle without breaking. Notably when he pushes himself against Ku he ends up collapsing and losing the fight, unable to maintain the mode for more than a minute or two.

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: The anime keeps intact Mitsuki's CharacterDevelopment received in the "Mitsuki Disappearance Arc". In the manga he still seems to have the "Boruto's will is my will" mentality, but in the anime, he is his own person, is independent of Boruto's choices and doesn't need anymore to ask Boruto what to do.

* AmbiguouslyEvil: His future self fights Boruto and [[spoiler:he may or may not have murdered Naruto]], but his choice of words are ambiguous enough to be interpreted many different ways. We also don't know how truly evil he is (if he is at all), nor whether this is by his own choice... or if this is [[spoiler:Isshiki Otsutsuki's being acting through him/his Kama]].
