Badass Mustache and Badass Beard were merged into Manly Facial Hair. Examples that don't fit or are zero-context are removed. Having facial hair is not enough to qualify. To qualify for Manly Facial Hair, the facial hair must be associated with manliness in some way. Please read the trope description before re-adding to make sure the example qualifies.

* BadassBeard: [[spoiler:His Titan form has a thick, Viking-like beard that shrouds the whole lower half of its face.]]

A Red Herring is a misleading and distracting "clue". This just reads like saying that the fandom's theories were wrong. How did the narritive mislead the audience? Because it reads likw it's saying that Historia's Consort… turned out to be exactly who the story said he was, which isn't the point of the trope. Heck even bringing up the fans at all makes this a questionable example as this is supposed to be the character, not about the fans reactions to him.

* RedHerring: Many fans thought that the Farmer had some significance to the plot. Maybe he was a secret Yaegerist, or maybe he was just a fall guy and the real father of the child was Eren or even someone else. Turns out no, he's just Historia's boyfriend, later husband.

Both Erwin and Griesha Grisha [[spoiler:died for their ideals]], while Shadis and Dok have put their past behind them. Shadis and Dok are also quite different from one another as military men, as Shadis is a hard-nosed drill instructor who deeply cares for his students, while Dok is known for his conformity and hands-off approach to command.
* GoodParents: He's shown to be very protective of Eren, particularly the time where he nearly got killed saving Mikasa, and we get a brief shot of him with BrokenTears after hearing of the Titan conquest of Shinganshina, Shiganshina, pleading for the safety of his family. He treated Mikasa like she was his own daughter as well. [[spoiler:It was repentance for his AbusiveParents behavior with Zeke, which made the Eldian resistance movement suffer a tragic end. Note that with Eren, he acts casually and even personally helped him know and understand the outer world as best as he can.]]

* HeroOfAnotherStory: [[spoiler:He singlehandedly gave the Eldians inside the Three Walls the means to fight the Titan Shifters that the Kingdom of Marley sent against them. That was an '''enormous''' feat, especially considering that no one realized what the hell he was doing or how he kept it under wraps. His actions directly prevented the Marleyans from gaining the Coordinate Titan power for their own ends, and halted their potential exploitation of the natural resources of the Island of Paradis. For better or for worse, Grisha Yeager is, by far and wide, one of the most important Eldians that has ever lived.]]

** [[spoiler: Turns out Grisha found out about the Coordinate Titan years ago, and ceased his efforts to wrest the Titan in order to spend his remaining years with his new family. The attack by Marleyan Shifters and Eren's manipulations sped things up.]]
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: During the flashback to his [[spoiler:slaughtering of the Reiss family and the stealing of the Foundation Titan's powers, just before he transforms]] he is sporting a notable grimace. * {{Irony}}: [[spoiler:He tried to mold and indoctrinate his firstborn son, Zeke, into his political beliefs only for him to go completely against his wishes and betray him; by contrast he was a more OpenMindedParent with his second son, Eren, never revealing anything about his past or his ideology, and as a result Eren ends up fully embracing his father's main goal by his own volition.]] [[spoiler: And then revealed Eren from the future was silently manipulating him all along to ensure the Coordinate doesn't remain with the Reiss family.]]
* ItsAllMyFault: He realizes he was wrong in forcing his beliefs onto Zeke, and knows he has the blame for his son's resulting betrayal.
* JerkassHasAPoint: [[spoiler:During the negotiations between Paradis and the Marleyan military rebel faction, Lady Azumabito states that Zeke had withheld his royal blood from the Marleyans once he realized that what Grisha and Dina argued regarding Marley rang more truth than what he initially thought, having surmised way too late that he sacrificed them for the wrong cause.]]
