Her mother gave her a glass eye as a prosthetic and made it green, unlike Mei's real red eye, because she thought it would look nice. Mei is quite uncomfortable about her glass eye and usually keeps it hidden with an eyepatch. Despite of that, Kouichi says her glass eye is oddly beautiful and he would like her to go without the eyepatch more often. Mei's cousin Misaki thought the same.
