could we make ymmv for justin beier
12:37:54 AM Aug 16th 2014
You'd have to ask here.
02:12:26 PM Aug 16th 2014
Actually, if the page were to be made it would be kept locked to prevent it becoming personal, so you'd have to ask here instead.
05:47:27 PM Apr 3rd 2013
So how come I'm not surprised that this page is locked??
09:15:00 PM Jul 17th 2013
The problem is, there's actually stuff that needs to be edited! "See the Super Bowl Best Buy commercial below under Self-Deprecation"? There is no entry for Self-Deprecation! I know why, but that part shouldn't even be there!
05:50:27 AM Jul 18th 2013
You can requests edits for locked pages in the Long Term Projects forum.
11:36:44 PM Apr 29th 2014
It's funny how short the page is. I can just imagine how much bile has been hidden.
11:45:28 PM Apr 29th 2014
And how much material about him as a person that we don't care about has been removed.
11:33:28 AM Apr 2nd 2015
I agree with the Self-Deprecation one. I personally don't hate Beiber as a person, but I am one of many who does not like his music or his public attitude he's been spreading ever since he got famous. However I know, that he wouldn't even guest star on that CSI episode, if he didn't like to make fun of himself all the time, nor if he didn't know he was gonna get killed off instead of arrested like most celebrity guests would in the show.
08:44:25 AM Aug 11th 2012
It’s *shawty, not ‘shorty’. ‘Shawty’ is AAVE for ‘girl’. >_>
02:22:05 AM Jul 26th 2012
I think one of the things to have (either on the main or YMMV page) is "Hype Aversion." I'm not sure how to expand upon it myself, save that the only reason I seem to dislike him is: 1) I find it funny to make fun of his name, B) He's so popular that it turns me away (I actually haven't heard any of his music), and III) I don't watch TV enough to know anything about him.

I'm sure there are other people out there who are also turned away purely by his popularity, and that's why I think Hype Aversion would be a good addition to the Bieber pages. (Almost wrote "Beaver" there. /).-)

This entry needs to be expanded upon according to How to Write an Example:

Does anyone know exactly HOW the hell the Bieber hatedom began in the first place? I'm very confused.
12:54:36 PM Mar 25th 2011
12:57:22 PM Mar 25th 2011
Tell me that's a parody
09:01:27 PM May 10th 2011
Not necessarily. This is one person's opinion, whether it's true or not. But what's really wrong with the comment is that it doesn't actually contribute anything meaningful to the discussion page.
03:36:45 AM Feb 28th 2011
I propose adding the "Spiritual Successor" trope (to Michael Jackson) under the YMMV page.
09:15:14 PM Apr 9th 2015
Or not?
12:54:05 AM Apr 10th 2015
What would be the explanation be, anyway?
02:54:08 PM Feb 25th 2011
Yes, YMMV page entry, but it does deserve scrutiny before it is put back up. Can't tell which sentence is more accurate.

  • Nice Guy: No matter how you feel about his music he does seem like a fairly nice kid, and does at least have a sense of humor about himself.
    • He does? He threw a water balloon at a police officer and got away with it.
03:32:52 AM Feb 28th 2011
Throwing a water balloon at a police officer strikes me as being more of an attempt at a bit of good natured fun, rather than being a jerkass.
01:35:27 PM Mar 1st 2011
Yea it's not exactly evidence of consistent anti-social behavior just a shitty prank. There are tons of really otherwise nice people that pull stuff like this on Devil's Night and April Fools.
09:50:59 AM Feb 19th 2011
Does anybody think Him getting shot to death by the cops on CSI will become a meme?
05:15:23 AM Feb 11th 2011
Yeah, this page needs cleaning up. At first it was infested with Hatedom, then it was infested with those trying to protect JB and keep things neutral. Now it's filled with butt-hurt fans whining about how people don't respect Teh Biebz, and Hate Dumb overreacting.
03:34:56 AM Feb 28th 2011
I think we've done a pretty good job of cleaning up the page with a YMMV page.
08:45:31 PM Feb 2nd 2011
Can we lock this page to prevent unwarranted vandalism? It's easier to revert, but wouldn't it be best to be able to screen new edits for legitimacy and prevent YMMV ones from hitting the main page, as well as make sure the editor isn't going to vandalize it?
08:42:06 PM Aug 31st 2010
So what do you guys think of the September 1st Assault on Justin Bieber?
08:22:05 PM Sep 14th 2010
I swear that it seems like the haters are more obsessed with him than the fans. Since his music is not my personal preference, I just choose not to listen to him and leave it at that.

However, I get tired of seeing his name get mentioned on rock/metal video. While there is the occasional troll who is (or claims to be) a Justin Bieber fan, the haters who mention him seem to be a lot more prevalent.

Why was the Moral Dissonance line deleted? Everything said in it did happen. ell, I looked it up, just to make sure the whole thing wasn't made up.
09:59:43 PM Aug 26th 2010
It's not neutral enough. Besides, you can't judge someone's character based on one deed. But if you can make it more neutral, it may be accepted.
09:02:13 PM Aug 27th 2010
A deed like that cannot be made neutral. Seriously. How are we gonna neutralize it?

Say: "Bieber posted up a phone number on his Twitter account and got called out for it, yet his account is still up somehow despite breaking the TOS." ?
11:20:52 PM Aug 27th 2010
To be quite honest, I figured I was being pretty neutral.

I even chose Moral Dissonance because of the line in the article: "It can include pretty much any *unintentional* Double Standard on the hero's part that becomes obvious to the viewer during a walk to the fridge. It's important to point out the hero isn't acting the Jerkass, Anti Hero, or morally myopic villain, and may in fact be likable and decent, but their actions simply don't line up with their rhetoric and no one calls them on it."

And it's a pretty big thing, he done.
09:27:08 PM Aug 29th 2010
You're right. Putting it back now.
06:00:22 PM Jul 16th 2010
Just how strong is the moderation of this Trope? I mean, with the large number of people wanting to attack Justin, maybe it needs protection?
08:19:27 PM Aug 13th 2010
Eh, we ain't wikipedia, it'll work itself out.
03:26:48 AM Aug 21st 2010
So you think it wise to trust the safety of this page to tropers when the large majority of them hate him?
10:00:46 PM Aug 26th 2010
See my point? Everytime I look at this page, I see more and more dirt being thrown at Justin. This page will need protection.
07:49:08 PM Sep 14th 2010
I don't like Justin Bieber myself, but it's not like I have some sort of personal vendetta against him. I didn't even *know* about the guy, until haters brought him up on rock/metal videos on YouTube. So, if not for the haters, I could've remained being blissfully unaware of him.
10:24:38 AM Apr 10th 2011
what do u mean u dont like JB?

06:43:52 AM Jun 26th 2011
He doesn't. Big deal.
05:57:23 PM Jul 16th 2010
We should have an image of Justin Bieber, and a more detailed backstory.

Is the Michael Jackson comparison supposed to be a joke? Bieber is a teenager whereas Michael was like 10 or 11 when he started in The Jackson 5 and I think Justin is a bit too old to be called a child prodigy.
05:56:37 PM Jul 16th 2010
Hmm... Good point. That's why I replaced "Child Prodigy" with "Teen Genius", although Justin's more talented than smart. Justin may have been older than Michael Jackson when he started, but both artists started out a lot sooner than musicians in general (you're still a child until you turn 18, and Justin's 16, so both of them started out as children), and Justin seems to be filling Michael's niche in the Pop/R&B music scene in terms of popularity (his song "Baby" has more views than any other video on Youtube. So it's not a joke (I don't joke). But still, I welcome people's opinions on the matter, and we should discuss it more before tagging him as a "Spiritual Successor".
01:58:37 PM Dec 14th 2010
He certainly looks like a preteen...
11:54:06 AM Feb 19th 2011
Sounds like one too.
