Can the Crying Child be added to the Afton Family folder? Sister Location made the Child's relation to the Afton family pretty explicit, with the cameras in William's bunker watching over the FNAF 4 bedroom, and the Fredbear plush on the shelf.

So, following the release of "Ruin", shouldn't the Mimic have two separate character folders for the Mimic's original book portrayal and its Security Breach portrayal, since as I understand it, they're separate continuities?

Gavitro Since: Dec, 2012
Dec 4th 2016 at 11:25:44 AM •••

With the final cutscene in Sister Location (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwsLvP0iR9s), a major plot twist has been created.

Purple Guy/Eggs Benedict/Springtrap is revealed NOT to be Afton, as many people first thought. He's actually Afton's son, Mike.

Whether or not this "Mike" happens to be Mike Schmidt is debatable, but it's safe to assume that these two Mikes are one and the same.

We need a major edit of this page to adjust to this reveal. "The Murderer" folder needs to be completely rewritten from scratch, and William Afton needs his own separate folder. There could be more necessary changes, but these are the two biggest points right now.

We'll need to separate Michael and William Afton where we can.

Do we agree with Dawko's theory that that lighter-purple purple guy from 2 is a different character? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA52d4UQ58Y That would potentially tell us where to separate but whether or not that's a good theory to go by is up for debate...

Jeez, what a wrench in the works...I suppose Michael Afton would be a "spoiler character"?

So my current suggestion, after thinking it over, would be to move everything relating to William and Michael into a separate section titled "The Purple Guy: Major Spoilers" since the fact that there are multiple purple guys (the murderer and his son), that Michael exists, and probably other things I'm not recalling are all spoilers merely by existing. I think there's probably enough on them now to get their own page, yeah?

Things still look a little bit inconsistent on some of the character entries concerning the reveal and related implications/theories.Should the large amount of fresh looking red blood coming out of Springtrap from that cutscene in Fnaf 3 be considered a design choice to go with the other colors,or a hint as to who jumped in the suit?(Eggs turning purple from rot doesn't strike me as having lots of fresh blood to spew)

Though unlikely it's vaguely possible. Loss of the frontal lobe is quite survivable, and in some cases the right side or left side of it is removed to treat certain forms of Epilepsy. Of course, the child had his removed in a shall we say improper procedure which limits his chances of survival. Some evidence that may indicate that the child is indeed Mike is the side affects of a frontal lobe removal. A known side effect is reduction in judgement. Mike more or less defies better judgement when he goes back to work at the pizzeria every night, so he may indeed have problems with proper decision making. If the Child recovered from the bite(which is of course a stretch), there COULD be a connection there.

Do we add a separate folder for William, seeing as he isn't exactly the "canon" Purple Guy? Or should we put a little sub-header in his folder just talking about the novel version?

Who's the guy who put "Big Bad" on Jeremy's entry? He's using 4's between-night games as a basis, specifically Night 2's. The only problem is, Jeremy was moved to Day Shift after Night 6, and we know that 4 and 2 are on the same week, since 4 ends with the Bite of '87.

Should the Purple Guy have Well-Intentioned Extremist and Knight Templar is his folder?

The fourth game implies that he went and murdered the kids in order to avenge the poor victim of the Bite of '87, but the problem is if the murders happened before or after the bite.

Names of animatronic categories are odd. For example, Springtrap and the Puppet are implied to be older than the classic quartet, yet the naming implies that Springtrap is newer than the Toys. Should the "generation" pages be renamed to "Animatronics debuting in FNAF [number here]" for greater clarity? The page titles are artifacts by now, since bots have since been introduced out of order (in terms of when they were made).

Realized something:

  • The Night Guard has a different shade of purple than the murderer.
  • The Night Guard seems to disappear the third game, which takes place after the first game.
  • The Phone Guy dies at night 4 of the first game.
  • The Night Guard holds a phone.

Therefor, the Phone Guy is the Night Guard, but not the Murderer.

Bigger Bad was removed from the Murderer's sheet and the context was moved to The Man Behind the Man. The edit reason was that Bigger Bad was being misused, but I don't see how. Here is the context:

  • Bigger Bad/The Man Behind the Man: Of the series as a whole, as one of the suggested reasons for the animatronics' hostility is that they're haunted by the children he murdered, and he's theorized to have possibly died himself and returned as either the Marionette, or Golden Freddy. Plus, if the Marionette really wasn't responsible for the murders and was actually the crying child, that would make the Murderer the Bigger Bad to the Marionette, as well.

Protectronics Since: Jan, 2015

A Bigger Bad, as described on the trope page, is not a Big Bad who is even eviller or more responsible for the game's main conflict than the other Big Bads but he is a villainous force that "is more significant than the Big Bad in the setting as a whole, but isn't causing the conflict of the story (and may have little to do with it at all)." The trope is also not to be used interchangeably with The Man Behind the Man. Bigger Bad is not a subtrope of Big Bad.

If the Purple Man not only caused the original conflict, but is still causing it (as in being the Marionette or Golden Freddy) he is too active in the story to be a Bigger Bad. However, I conceded someone undoing this since most of what the Purple Man's role is in the game is actually just speculative.

I have a problem with some of these captions being not only added when unnecessary, but spoilered out AND linked to a trope (making the spoilers worthless on some browsers.) Not only that, but the marionette caption seems to be veering into Wild Mass Guessing with what it suggests. I've seen two people changing the captions so I don't want to get in the middle of an edit war, but it really doesn't seem right..

Shouldn't we try to keep WM Gs off of the character page? Lots of the entries, specifically for or referring to Phone Guy, support theories that are largely unsubstantiated. We should try to keep it to information either in the games themselves or that can be reasonably inferred from said information. The WMG page exists for a reason.

For characters we really want to keep a secret, might we just change their folder names to "Spoiler Character" and spoiler out mentions of them made in the rest of the page? I've seen that done for some other characters for other series. Then the question becomes who we want to keep secret — Golden Freddy? The Murderer and the Five Missing Children?

As I've stated in editing comments before, Bonnie's gender should be kept as female. The old comment Scott made where he referred to Bonnie as male should not be counted as proof, as it was clearly made before the character was finalized. This is evident in that, in the comment itself, he referred to her only as "the bunny", and in that since the release of the game, whenever he was asked about Bonnie's gender, he would never give a straight answer. The very feminine redesign points strongly towards female, especially considering that her name all along has been Bonnie, which has almost never been used for men.

I can definitely see how both sides have a point. We don't know enough about the story of the redesign for it to be evidence of anything regarding the original Bonnie- it could very well be that the new design represents a "different character" from Bonnie (particularly since Foxy also has a more feminine redesign, and the original Foxy has been definitively confirmed male as far as I can tell), and none of the newer Word of God explicitly contradicts the original statement referring to the character as male. The FNAF Wiki seems to have come down on the male side as well. But we definitely need some kind of official TV Tropes position.

But again, by the same logic, Foxy would be female as well, and we know that's not the case. It's possible that the story of the sequel could be that a new company bought the robots and made their own bear, rabbit, chicken, and fox mascots using the same bodies, but representing different characters with possibly different genders; this doesn't change the gender of the original character, and the robots on the inside don't have genders anyway. The redesign doesn't necessarily imply anything about the original version.

SamuraiYoshi Since: May, 2010
Oct 19th 2014 at 10:15:33 PM •••

I disagree. We never saw a Foxy with his brain scooped out. It implied there were two different Foxies operating at the same time (further backed by what seems to be the old Foxy being alive and well in the newest promotional image), whereas the Bonnie image implied that it's the same character in an updated body. Even if none of this were the case, you still have Bonnie having a feminine name to begin with. Remember, the conclusion that Chica is female, something which is universally accepted among the fandom, came solely from her having a feminine name.

Well, we've now seen the trailer for the sequel, that shows all four original characters active alongside the new ones. Nothing new that clarifies anything with regard to original Bonnie though.

Might it be a good idea to make a topic in Short Term Projects about this? It might get a bit more exposure there.
