open Children’s tv show from the 90’s with a dog puppet Live Action TV
Hi
I’m trying to remember the name of a children’s tv show from I think the early 90’s. The show was set on a space ship or space station and there was a talking dog puppet. Like life sized I think the person was inside the puppet operating it. The dogs face looked rubbery. The dog was wearing some kind of uniform. I remember it singing the song blue moon to a plant it thought was dying and the plant came back to life and then tried to eat them. For some reason I think Craig Charles might have been in it but I could be getting it mixed up. Any ideas? The show sort of reminded me of Alf.
Edited by MakeupandperfumeopenHow bad is serial tweaking?
How bad of an offense would serial tweaking be considered on this wiki? Because fruitstripegum has been doing an unending series of serial tweaking edits on OvershadowedByControversy.Real Life, with all 22 of their edits there being small fixes to grammar, wording, etc.
Is this an offense bad enough to warrant an ATT report, or no?
Edited by themayorofsimpletonopenYMMV pages for Creators
I remember YMMV pages aren't allowed for pages in the Creator/ namespace. Should I send all these to the Cut List? Are there any exceptions to this rule? What do I do with "Moments" pages?
openArticles and neutral point of view
In our striving to make articles look like they were written by the same person, should tropes refrain from using exclamations and informal phrases in examples (e.g. "And how!", "Don't even get us started on that."), as well as phrasing that might be too subjective (e.g. saying "[Character] can be a pretty big asshole" in a Jerkass example, in which case I'd assume "[Character] can be pretty mean-spirited" would be more suitable)?
This is something I've very frequently seen be removed yet still added daily by many tropers. I personally remove or rephrase examples like this, for I believe it borders on Natter. Is that the case?
open Logical Fallacies TRS crowner
Hello,
To those who may be unaware, there is currently a TRS thread for various Logical Fallacies with an active crowner. If you want to cast your vote or otherwise offer your input, now would be a good time.
Please do not reply to this. This is merely an attempt to draw attention to a stalled crowner.
openVideo Limit
Is there a limit of how many times you can list the same source material for video examples of one trope?
Numberjacks has about five different examples of a Villain Song, and I think it would get repetitive listing all of them.
For reference, the most video examples I've seen for one trope from the same source is three (Title Theme Tune, with various incarnations of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).
openWhat if an AlternateUniverse had an AlternateSelf?
The MCU animated series What If…? (2021) has stories set in alternate universes than the MCU main one. There is an entry for Alternate Self, listing characters with divergences from the originals. I removed it saying "Trope misuse. Original and alternate must meet.", but then it was restored by Asherinka, who said "There is no such requirement according to the trope page. All variants in the MCU are valid examples of Alternate Self."
On a surface reading, he's right, the trope does not explicitly demand original and variant to meet. However, it can be understood by context: the description is about the comparisons and identity conflicts between both, and all the examples are about meetings of original and variant. And besides, just common sense: if "alternate version of a character" was in itself a trope, with no meeting required, it would be completely redundant with Alternate Universe, as everybody in such a universe is a variant of someone from the main universe by definition (barring some limited exceptions, like canon foreigners).
I don't want to start an edit war over this, so I would like to hear someone else's opinion.
openTRS constantly on hold
The last four days I've been trying to start a new thread in Trope Repair Shop, it always says "The limit of 50 has been met! There are already 50 threads in this forum. We can't take any more until some threads are closed."
How much longer until this limit decreases? Could it be that every time I try to make a new thread once one or more have been closed, someone else has made one which resets the limit?
openObscure works Literature
Is there a project on here for obscure work pages, I've just created Literature.Zozu The Robot but can't find many sources online for it, other than reviews.
I'm looking for help to update this page and can't seem to find it.
openTroper complaining in YMMV Literature
Everything on the YMMV page for The Priory of the Orange Tree comes off as the one troper who added both entries complaining about Ead. They have nothing positive to say on the entire page and it seems very unwarranted? Especially the second trope, since 'being disrespectful to the queen', 'disliking a religion that is bigoted towards other religions', and 'having a hyperbolic thought' do not seem to warrent the Unintentionally Unsympathetic trope? I just get the impression this troper hated Ead, since i have not seen anyone else making these complaints.
Edited by TheLuckOfTheClawsopenHeadscratchers rules? Web Original
What are the rules about headscratchers pages? Are you allowed to edit other editors sections due to a difference of opinion about what they added? Or should you add your own counterpoint section with your alternate take on things?
openDoes Gay Cowboy cover lesbian cowgirls?
On the Gay Cowboy page, an example about lesbian cowgirls was deleted. Since Tropes Are Flexible, I think it might be worth re-adding. What say you guys?
openTroper uncommenting zero context examples
Awesomegirl5 is continually uncommenting zero context examples on character sheets despite several warnings from a troper not to. Also seems to have formatting issues, removing the curly brackets from one-word tropes and removing the "spoiler:" part from brackets containing spoilers.
Edited by TVGuy2001openGetting too personal?
Just a minor thing; on PlayingWith.Jerkass To One, a troper added this under the “Justified” Bullet:
- Bob is a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing who likes to single out Josh. He bullies and excludes Josh, while acting overly friendly to anyone around Josh at the moment to make him feel even worse. Truth in Television.
Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but it feels like a venty personal thing from the troper who wrote this (not naming who because it’s not really that big a deal), mostly because of Truth in Television. Can I just remove the Truth in Television part so it doesn’t seem so personal?
To the writer, sorry that people actually act this way.
Edited by antenna_earsopenMore Bad Batch issues?
- So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus on the Bad Batch's first season is while it wasn't amazing, it wasn't considered to be bad either, firmly putting it in the middle of the road in terms of quality.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Many fans of Star Wars: Republic Commando rejoiced when a clone commando with familiar yellow and black markings appeared in the episode “War-Mantle”, but was never definitely identified as Scorch on screen, and subsequent Flip-Flop of God regarding whether it was really him has left many with this feeling regarding Delta Squad.
So Okay, It's Average is ZCE as to why. YMMV.Star Wars Resistance states it is also this with appropriate detail and stated Bad Batch was better (that was since removed). I believe there was some kind of misuse for SOIA but can recall.
They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character requires they actually appear/be mentioned in the work. This is a uniquely complicated case on if it applies. Thoughts.
After bringing the page here I'd estimate every other day this week, is there a more appropriate place to bring this?
openGushing about inappropriate stuff on Mr. Rogers
On Awesome.Fred Rogers, there's a part about him Flipping the Bird and about female nudity. However:
A.) He didn't really flip the bird— He was playing "Where is Thumbkin?".
B.) Claiming that it's awesome to see a woman naked reeks of lewdness at the best of times, but in Mister Rogers?!
I recently created a page for the film Return of the Secaucus Seven. However, when I created the page, I inadvertently misspelled it as Return of the Secacus Seven. How do I change it so it's the right spelling?
