openYMMV Edit War Film
~Boman 803 and ~Fearless Rabbit are edit warring over a Designated Villain entry on YMMV.Rat Race and apparently have been going back and forth over it for months, going back to at least May.
resolved Edit war prevention for a problematic edit Film
madorosh removed this example from Lady Ballers
- Broken Aesop: While a common conservative justification for the type of transphobia seen in Lady Ballers is to protect women's spaces, the film also promotes the idea that women are always physically inferior to men including at sports, which is both misogynistic and condescending and undermines the alleged "pro-woman" bent.
with the edit reason: "doesn't make sense, the characters in the film mention the biological fact that men have specific advantages over women, which in general is true. Not sure what 'transphobia' is being displayed - everything in the film is played for laughs"
I don't wanna cause an edit war, but the example was valid. The film tries to present itself as pro-women but the film very much plays on the supposed belief that men, even the weakest men apparently who are out of shape and washed out and haven't exercised in years, are more physically abled and skilled at sports than the most trained female athletes. Which very much does go against the film's supposed "feminist" message.
Again, I want to cause no edit war so I brought it here.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2openWhat is the minimum requirements for a page? Film
I'm creating a page for the Danish film Antboy, since none exists here.
I want to eventually get to a point where other tropers are able to edit it far beyond what I'm able to publish. The question is, what are the minimum requirements for my page to pass in this site?
If a question like this isn't appropriate for this particular page, let me know.
openPhantom Menace Recap Film
I noticed the original recap for Phantom Menace was removed due to being written by a ban evader. I've written up one of my own; mind if I add it?
Edited by jaydudeopenComplaining and maybe speculative example Film
On The Suicide Squad, there is an example that, besides its complaining tone, may be speculative:
- New Powers as the Plot Demands: After Bloodsport retrieves the hard drive containing information that links the American government with Project Starfish, he hides it in his uniform, behind one of his armguards. After Starro is defeated, we learn that his uniform was able to upload the data in the drive to a secure server and he uses that to blackmail Waller into releasing the remaining Squad members. This does not fit his motif and was never even implied before, being pure script magic to help the "heroes" have a true happy ending (unlike in the first film, where only after the mission they get to know their prize is nothing more than a 10-year reduction in their sentences).
In fact, it's also repeated on the Headscratchers subpage, where another troper suggest Bloodsport may have found a working computer and made the download from there.
Which makes me wonder, does the movie even clearly establish that the download was made from Bloodsport's armbands? If it isn't the case, then the whole example is speculative.
To be clear, I've watched the movie, but I don't remember this specific point.
Should the example be kept, or is it a shoehorning?
openDie Hard and Infraction Distraction Film
The page on Infraction Distraction lists Die Hard and Die Hard with a Vengeance as examples of the trope. Thing is, while in both instances, the bad guys are committing one crime to conceal another crime, the trope implies that the crimes the bad guy appears to be committing are minor compared to the one they are actually committing. In Die Hard, the bad guys pretend to be terrorists while really robbing a skyscraper, and in With a Vengeance they claim to have planted bombs around the city, including in a school, to distract from them robbing the Federal Reserve Bank. I'm pretty sure these are actually examples of Smokescreen Crime.
resolved Icicle Thief development Film
The Icicle Thief is my very first work article that I worked on for a while, before other priorities got in my way. I would like to ask how many more tropes we need for the article, before it can be graduated to the mainspace. I also invite more editors to help improve the article further.
openIron Man 1 Film
Can someone please explain to me why we have Film.Iron Man 1, Film.Thor, and Film.Ant Man 1 instead of Film.Iron Man 2008, Film.Thor 2011, and Film.Ant Man 2015? The former trio doesn't match Film.The Incredible Hulk 2008, Film.The Avengers 2012, Film.Guardians Of The Galaxy 2014, Film.Doctor Strange 2016, Film.Black Panther 2018, Film.Captain Marvel 2019, Film.Black Widow 2021, or Film.Eternals 2021.

openMovie scenes Film
Hello, I need suggestions on two movie scenes: one in which a Black person is represented negatively but non-stereotypically (being sarcastic or cold but collected, an upper-class villain), and one in which a Black person is represented positively and stereotypically ("magical negro" or "black best friend" tropes, but with no references to a fantasy world, Lucius Fox for example). I need these clips for my master's thesis. Thank you very much.
resolved Sleeping Beauty Film
On Trivia.Sleeping Beauty, Mr Matthew Hedrich keeps adding words like "possibly" and "allegedly" to entries crediting Verna Felton to Queen Leah, even after I shared a video from Disney themselves crediting her. Does this really sound necessary?
Edited by dsneybufopenExample of a Broken Aesop? Film
A while back, I added Black Adam (2022) to Broken Aesop due to the movie emphasising how special and necessary his killing and anti-heroic behaviour is, despite it never once actually helping the situation other than solving a problem his killing created to begin with. ~Doctor Sleep commented it out with the edit reason "Black Adam's aesop can probably be written off as him being an anti-hero rather than indecisive story-telling. ", which doesn't really make sense? Him being an anti-hero and that being a good thing is the broken aesop.
Is it okay for me to add it back?
openFlypaper (2011) not on TvTropes Film
Note: I don't fully know how TV Tropes works, so I am not 100% sure if I am at the correct location for this question.
One of my favorite movies of all time is Flypaper from 2011; It's about a bank being robbed by 2 separate groups, and everything goes wrong.
I cannot find this movie on the website, but I am sure that it contains a lot of tropes, seeing as the movie is heavily comedy based and doesn't take itself seriously.
How can I [or, preferably, with the help of other people] create a page for the movie on this website?
openVague edit reason Film
The YMMV page for Die Hard had this entry under Misaimed Fandom:
- John McClane is often seen as an example by gun rights activists of how "a good guy with a gun stops a bad guy with a gun." However, this completely ignores how John spends almost the entire film on the defensive, with his very first move being to run away and try to get help. He also spends a good chunk of the second act simply hiding in a remote part of the building and not confronting the terrorists at all apart from dropping C4 on them.
This was deleted by Miracle@St Olaf with the edit reason merely stating "There's plenty someone can say to argue this, which means it probably doesn't need to be here," but it doesn't make any such argument itself. Should the entry be restored?
Edited by Javertshark13openCan you help me write an example and make it more clever? Film
This relates to [1] as I’m writing what happens in the entire canyon scene in [2]. I’m wondering if it’s good to you, but I also need it to end with a very specific moment. Here’s what I have:
When Buck, Crash, and Eddie ride a pteranodon to recover Sid at lava falls. The possums attract a pack of ten hostile pterosaurs that intercept the rescue and force Buck to detour into a canyon. The canyon chase starts off with a cool shot parodying a televised car race, before Buck helps the possums obtain nearby berries as ammo against their scaly threat. After blasting their first enemy down, the scene focuses on Crash and Eddie trying to take down more with their berries, passing some brachiosaurus and defeating more pterosaurs in the process. With half of the pack left chasing, the possums use the last of their berries to take down another pterosaur but with difficulty as he dodges every shot.
The canyon scene ends with one of the pterosaurs becoming a balloon. And I’m not sure how I can write it with a humorous flair.
resolved Mask of Zorro trope error, delete or comment out Film
So I came across this entry on The Mask of Zorro:
"* Artistic License – Religion: Elena says the broke the Fourth Commandment to honor her father and mother. The Fourth Commandment is to Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy."
But given that Elena is (probably) Catholic she's probably using the Augustinian division of the 10 Commandments which does put "Honor thy father and thy mother" as the 4th. Whereas Protestants use the Philonic division which makes this the 5th.
Now I would just delete this but I was wondering if it would be better commenting it out with an explanation or putting something else in just to prevent someone putting it back by mistake?
openshould this laconic entry be changed? Film
The laconic entry for The Social Network currently reads as follows:
- Bio-drama film detailing the founding and developing of Facebook, and the hardships and conflicts that it entailed. Alternatively: The movie that proves that Mark Zuckerberg is absolutely a lizardman.
That second part feels in very poor taste to me, since the whole "lizard people" thing is veeeerrrry prevalent in alt-right circles as an antisemitic talking point. To be clear, I don't think whoever added that bit is necessary antisemitic; the origins of the "lizard people" conspiracy theory isn't super well-known, and I often see it passed around as a joke or meme by people who think it's a dumb but harmless idea held by a few crackpots, not realizing the very, very bad roots to the whole thing. But referring to a real Jewish person as a lizardman just feels like a bad look.
Good to axe that bit?
openVerifiable source for character name? Film
The Characters/SonysSpiderManUniverse page gives the name "Corinne Wan" for the Malaysian EMT that the Riot symbiote takes over in Venom, but to my knowledge her name is unrevealed in the film itself (she has a name-tag but I personally can't make it out) and Michelle Lee is only credited as "Malaysia EMT/Riot Host".
I checked the edit history for the page and the editor who added it cites the SSU wiki as their source, which doesn't provide any sources for that being her name... so is there an official reliable source for the EMT's name being Corinne Wan?
EDIT: Her nametag does say Corinne Wan, but it's hard to make out since her full name is only briefly visible at the beginning of the movie.
Edited by Arawn999openWeird character folder quote change Film
On 26th Oct, sapphyblue change the folder quote in Mark Hoffman's character folder on Characters.Saw: Jigsaw and Accomplices from a quote said by Hoffman himself:
To one said by another character to him (incidentally, the one Hoffman told the aforementioned line to):
I find this change rather weird because I've never seen any character folder or character-specific page use quotes said by other characters to describe the one whom the folder/page addresses (even if they give an idea of who the character is). I'm not really sure how I should deal with this, though. Is it best if I send sapphyblue a notifier? Should I bring this issue on a forum thread? Or should I do something else? Perhaps it's better to leave it as it is?

Regarding https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WMG/TheDayTheEarthStoodStill2008 a couple of WMG where removed for " excess text"
I reviewed the text in question they did not seem excessive. It is possible the person who removed them Global Coalition 20 did so due to not agreeing with them. I admit one of the "excess text" is one of my own . While I understand disagreeing with an WMG , removing for "excess text" seems unwarranted.
