openShould we make a separate tab for Alternative Character Interpretation? Western Animation
So I'm editing the YMMV page for King of the Hill and I was wondering if there were enough entries to make an Alternative Character Interpretation page? And if yes, how would I go about it?
openAdding Broken Base to YMMV Sonic Prime Page? Western Animation
So, since Sonic Prime had just wrapped up, is it time to make a Broken Base section for the YMMV page? Some of the suggestions for the Broken Base section are:
1) The characterization of Sonic himself has caused a split in the fanbase. Some fans find Sonic being characterized as being too immature found it to be completely alienated from his more laid back yet sensible portrayal in the games. Other fans however, think that having Sonic have more flaws in this version makes him more interesting as a character.
2) The canon of this series has also been divided in the fandom as some fans questioned about when this series exactly took place in the game canon and why does Sonic act way more differently in this series in comparison to how he was portrayed in Sonic Frontiers?
Edited by RabbitearsblogopenPossible Single Issue Wonk/Partial Plagiarism Western Animation
The Precision Driver repeatedly posts on the Complete Monster proposal thread characters from The Simpsons, a show completely unconductive to having CMs because it’s too comedic.
- They did this three times in the past few months.
- The first time they did this they proposed two unrelated characters from unrelated episodes of the show: Kostas Becker from the non-cannon episode "A Serious Flanders" (a parody of Fargo) who isn’t played seriously enough with comedic moments like telling a story that gets interrupted and his death being an Overly Long Gag were he the ice rolls over a bunch of times before he drowns, and Russ Cargill from The Simpsons Movie who is Played for Laughs with he says comedic stuff like “people should listen to him because he’s a big man on TV” and after he’s defeated he is comforted by Cletus who says “don’t worry, I once lost a game of tic tac toe to a chicken” and is potentially a Well-Intentioned Extremist. (This on its own wouldn’t be enough for a query but the next one is more of concern)
- the second time they presented "more arguments" for just Becker (they admitted that Cargill has redeeming qualities) but the arguments were just repeating the same points in the earlier post along with proposing an image for the image links pagethat was just Becker holding a pen and a book in ominous light (they edited out the image since then) and later a different image that’s also just Becker in ominous lighting.
- The third time was earlier today when, again, they just repeated the same arguments with repeated statements that Becker has no redeeming qualities (including that as an argument that he’s heinous). They also compared him to Randall Boggs who does have some funny moments but not in the same way as Becker.
- Now that isn’t the only reason I’m bringing this up, I also think parts of their EP was largely lifted from Kosta Becker’s entry on NightmareFuel. The Simpsons (which wasn’t added by them)
- "A Serious Flanders" has Kostas Becker, aka the debt collector, who basically walks right out of a serious drama and acts as a Knight of Cerebus throughout the entire two-parter. After violently murdering the Rich Texan, chopping him to pieces and ripping his face off, he single-handedly kills Fat Tony's crew in a bloody shoot-out, before killing Fat Tony by putting his head in a donut maker. He also forces Ned into hiding for three years, only to shoot him once Marge unintentionally reveals his hiding spot. He has almost no funny scenes or jokes, and is probably the most serious villain to step foot in Springfield.
- From their first post
- Kostas Becker from The Simpsons two-part one-off episode "A Serious Flanders" is a notorious debt collector and gangster who, along with his associates Seamus and Collette, are introduced by having the Rich Texan captured and killed before having him chopped up and has his face ripped off at the start of the episode. Later on, Becker and his associates capture Homer so he can act as leverage against his neighbour Ned Flanders and after that, Becker takes the lives of Fat Tony and his crew during a shootout at the Lard Lad donut shop, with Disco Stu and Charles Montgomery Burns getting caught in the crossfire during the shootout. To showcase how monstrous he really is, he forces Ned and his sons Rod and Todd to go into hiding in Wyoming for three years and tries to have him killed when Marge unintentionally reveals his hiding spot. Throughout the two-parter, Becker has almost no funny scenes or jokes compared to previous villains such as Mr. Burns, Robert Terwilliger Jr./Sideshow Bob, Fat Tony or even Russ Cargill, helping to make him the most serious and vile villain to set foot in the city of Springfield, thanks in part to Brian Cox's spine-chilling voice-over performance throughout the two-part episode.
- From their second post
- Firstly, while Russ Cargill does have a few gueninely funny moments throughout The Simpsons Movie despite being a vile character, the same cannot be said about the monstrous Kostas Becker from "A Serious Flanders", who basically walks right out of a serious drama and acts as a Knight of Cerebus throughout the entire two-parter. His vile deeds include brutally murdering the Rich Texan at the beginning of the episode, having Homer captured so he can act as leverage against his neighbour Ned Flanders, murdering Fat Tony, Legs, Louie and Johnny Tightlips during a shootout at Lard Lad Donuts and forcing Ned and his sons to go into hiding in Wyoming for three years and tries to kill him when Marge unintentionally reveals his hiding spot.
Maybe I’m just overthinking things, but since their only forum activity appears to consist of trying to get characters from the simpsons on the Complete Monster page with stuff that’s not relevant to the discussion and what appears to be partial copying from the Nightmare Fuel page. To clarify I’m not officially reporting them, I just want to clarify somethings. Thoughts?
openSplitting Madagascar fridge page Western Animation
Hi everyone, new troper here and this my first query on "Ask The Tropers".
I noticed that Madagascar fridge page is actually about first movie and not franchise in general. Given that Ice Age fridge page was once the same but got split into first movie and series in general, I think the same thing should happen here. So I'm asking you for your feedback and support in helping me in the cleanup of Madagascar fridge page.
Edited by Filip04resolved Reporting Plush2012321 Western Animation
I would like to report a user known as Plush2012321. This user is vandalizing the Rugrats character page and the The Rugrats Movie page by adding fanfiction-based content to them. For the former page, Plush2012321 keeps adding folders for animals that weren't in the movie, and for the latter, Plush2012321 keeps referring to the Wolf as a "Vasto Wolf" and the forest the babies get lost in as "Skull Territory". I've reverted the edits to the latter page, but someone else had to revert this Plush2012321 to the former page. That wasn't enough, as Plush2012321 re-added the fanfiction-based content. I'd like to have Plush2012321 reported as soon as possible to ensure that this vandalism doesn't continue.
(By the way, I hadn't meant to post this twice. When I clicked the save button, it gave me two copies.)

resolved Regarding "My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip" in Banned In China page Western Animation
Just went into Banned in China page and "My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip" is on the page again for the third time.
- Hasbro’s decision to renew their contract with Discovery Family through 2025 has resulted in a tantamount ban on My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip in many countries such as Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, and Turkey, thus preventing the film from getting dubs in any of the languages spoken in those regions.
It was written on Teen Titans Go! example on the page. It was written by a troper named JHC1990. However, as there's no objectable content found in the MLP film, and I think that Hasbro's decision to renew their contract with Discovery Family through 2025 is not a reason for a tantamount ban on some European countries, and I don't think it's a tantamount ban. I think the example should be on No Export for You instead. What did you guys think?
open What constitutes an Ass Pull? Western Animation
Essentially, I was thinking of adding the trope in Hazbin Hotel in regards to the whole 'angels can only be hurt by angelic steel'.
Not in the concept itself but the fact that no demon in the 1000 years the exterminations happened had never figured it out, that no demons ever thought to try this.
And the fact that Vaggie would not know this, despite having being maimed by angelic steel.
Would this constitute an Ass Pull or is there another trope that would fit this?
resolved Is NoPoliceOption in Trolls Band Together? Western Animation
A couple of times in Trolls Band Together, when a character hears that one or more members of a boy band have been kidnapped, that character suggests alerting the authorities. That idea gets shot down each time it's suggested, not due to a lack of evidence or any rules tying the authorities' hands, but because the band members are being kept in diamond bottles, and only a special harmony can break diamond, i.e. they aren't expecting the authorities to be able to rescue the band member.
I have to admit that this runs into some Fridge Logic on a few different levels (not least of which is the fact that the police do take the villains away in the end), but that aside, does this count as an example of No "Police" Option?

resolved Replacing trope when the one who added it seemingly hasn't been active in months Western Animation
Good day.
So I was browsing a character page of a cartoon (I won't name it since this question involves spoilers for the show) and saw the trope "Defeat Means Friendship" used in an instance where "Heel Realization" works better since following their defeat, the character in question had broken down in a "My God, What Have I Done?"-moment realizing they have been the villain the whole time but was then carried away by their loyal henchman without any indication of becoming friends with the hero.
I messaged the one who added the example about it. The problem is that the person has not edited anything since September 2023. Therefore, it is not unlikely they haven't been online since and won't respond.
I would wait a week for them to response. But in case they don't respond, as well as for future reference, would it be alright for me to change the trope if they don't respond in that week repeating my reasoning for why "Heel Realization" works better as the edit reason?
openDownerEnding Western Animation
I have discovered that animated series created by FOX Animation studio are listed in the folder along with Disney. I have researched that not all of FOX's assets are owned by Disney and the company's series are mostly broadcasted by Adult Swim (well except for Simpsons. So I want to ask, should we remove the examples into Adult Swim folder or keep the series at Disney if you find proof that all (or more technically most of) the series are owned truly by Disney
openIffy example on The Jungle Book 2 page Western Animation
So uh, while idly surfing the site I found this entry on the page for The Jungle Book 2:
- G-Rated Sex: It is implied that in the beginning and, mostly, the end, Mowgli and Shanti have been hanging out, and not just platonically, but also romantically and sometimes sexually, much to their parents' support.
So first of all, rewatching the scenes in question, I'm not getting the implication that Mowgli and Shanti's interactions are anything more than just them teasing each other like kids do. When Mowgli returns to Shanti and Ranjan in the end, the most he does is grab Shanti's hand and playfully say that he'll race her back to the Man-Village. At most, it feels like a Ship Tease, "maybe they'll fall in love when they grow up" kind of moment, if anything (but it comes off more like two kids just goofing around).
And secondly, maybe I might be reading too much into it, but the entry is worded in such a way that it just comes off like whoever wrote it believes that Mowgli and Shanti are meant to be doing illicit things out in the jungle when they go out to get water for the Man-Village (or that "getting the water" is some kind of innuendo) and that their parents are encouraging it, which is just...ew. The characters are kids who are somewhere in the 10-12 range for Pete's sake, the words "romantically and sometimes sexually" shouldn't be in the same sentence as them.
Am I just reading too much into this or does this entry sincerely need to go or at the very least be reworded?
resolved No Title Western Animation
MagicallyMe keeps on removing a certain example on the Protagonist-Centered Morality page for the show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. I really don't want to start an edit war, so I came her first.
Here's the example that keeps getting deleted
- In "Boast Busters" Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Applejack take issue with Trixie's magic show and boasting, despite all three doing plenty of boasting themselves and begin heckling her for little if any reason. By the end of the episode Trixie's home and possessions are destroyed by an Ursa Minor and the main culprits of the bear being brought there, Snips and Snails, get mustaches as 'punishment'. While Twilight is the one to (indirect) humiliate her, Twilight's friends were practically gloating at the ruination of someone else's livelihood and home for behavior less problematic they themselves have and would do.
Would it be alright if I were to recreate the "Characters" page for Once Upon a Studio: Version 2.0 (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Fanfic/OnceUponAStudioVersionTwoPointOh)? I'm aware it was removed because of the absence of any tropes, but the characters page for the existing OUAS (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/OnceUponAStudio) has none either, so I'd just like to clear it with you before I do so, as I am aware my previous edits were in breach of the site's regulations.
