FYI, if anyone's interested in pretty hard sci-fi but with an even more down-to-earth bent to it (pun was indeed intended, like in that list), there's Rocket Girls.
Dang, thanks for reminding me about that one. I'd rec Dennou Coil, Moonlight Mile, Time of Eve, Real Drive and Pale Cocoon to sci fi fans too. Maybe look into Flag too, which is supposedly a realistic portrayal of war plus mecha. I haven't managed to find a copy, but I want to watch it.
What's a good action-y manga?
And/or yaoi, just because I've never actually read any.
Feminist in the streets, sex slave in the sheetsIf you don't mind shounen with a dollop of ecchi, you might try City Hunter, which is about a freelance bodyguard/hitman/troubleshooter with almost unerring aim. It's very Eighties action movie.
(I'm presuming you're talking more Badass Normal than the superpowered guys beating each other up type of action.)
For samurai action, the classic is still Lone Wolf and Cub about a former executioner accused of treason who goes on the lam with his toddler son.
Gimme a good completed series from the past year that is not Kill La Kill.
Kotoura-san. Read my review on it from the show's article page and here (mine should be the second one from the top).

These two may literally be more bark than bite, but they are no less tenacious than everyone else.Arpeggio of Blue Steel. Note that the anime series differs significantly from the manga series.

My default rec list has Space Battleship Yamato remake, Watamote, Uchouten Kazoku, Outbreak Company and Log Horizon. There's also a handful of above average to good ones like Kin-iro Mosaic, Majestic Prince, Gundam Build Fighters, etc.
Hi, I'm kinda new here. I've just finished Durarara!! a few weeks ago. According to The Other Wiki, it has elements of dramedy, action, mystery and psychological. Any anime similar in nature out there? Doesn't matter if it came out at the beginning of time or just a second ago.
Maybe Angel Beats? Full Metal Alchemist?
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Baccano! ...wait, that suggestion is trivial.
As far as dramedy-action-mystery-psychological, you might try Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni or Mirai Nikki.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableI've said it earlier, and I'll say it again: Kotoura-san! That show is probably my favorite Dramedy out there, even above Kanon and CLANNAD. The latter two are still extremely good in their own right and are more popular, so definitely give them a shot too.
For a more action based show, try Lyrical Nanoha. It's no psychological thriller or Cerebus Roller Coaster of emotions the previous recommendations are, but Nanoha is a very different kind of Magical Girl show. Think of Gundam disguised as Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura.
Addendum: Also, try Zettai Karen Children. It has action, comedy, a hilariously Reference Overdosed nature that's sure to please any Otaku, and a very intelligent yet gripping storyline with no real excess of Filler.

These two may literally be more bark than bite, but they are no less tenacious than everyone else.To reiterate, Baccano! is probably the best option if what you're specifically looking for is 'similar to Durarara'.

Thanks everybody for all the suggestions. I am currently watching Baccano! and I like what I see. Only now do I realize the Reference Overdosed of Baccano! in Durarara!! I'll look through all the suggested anime after my Baccano! marathon is over. Maybe Zettai Karen Children is first on my list...
I need more dramedy-action-psychological stuff like Higurashi, Umineko, Elfen Lied, Death Note and Mirai Nikki. Recommendations?
Madoka Magica, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Maybe Code Geass, but that's considerably more camp than the rest
Kiwaguro No Brynhildr (this season for the anime), is basically Elfen Lied without all that silly SOL stuff.
Watched/read all of these already. =P
Le Portrait de Petite Cossette (OVA)? More Mind Screw than anything, but...
Oh, and maybe Dorohedoro
The manga Liar Game. Bokurano. Also, possibly Serial Experiments Lain.

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.I've read quite a few Liar Game chapters, I really need to get back to it. Lain looks cool, Bokurano... well, maybe. I got interested in Noein, so I think I'll start from here.
Himegoto and Magimoji Rurumo. And they're both getting an anime adaptation this summer!

"I told you PCs were unreliable." Darwin, The Amazing World of GumballThe first option led me to a lot of manga while the other led me to nothing, how weird.
edit: derp, now it appeared. http://myanimelist.net/manga/13254/Majimoji_Rurumo
Well, it's not what I was expecting, but I might take a look at it some other time. =P
