Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

The Five-Man Band page has examples using an actual (generic) band. Currently The Hero is listed as the lead singer and The Lancer is listed as lead guitar. If I'm correct, Random Chaos wants this changed so that The Hero is listed as lead guitar and The Lancer is listed as bass guitar. Not sure if I agree, that's just my interpretation.

Umm... okay, but no thanks. I don't see the need to replace one dubious metaphor with another.

Can someone add the following to The Lonely Island page, as they were mistakenly removed during the move back to the main page (and also new songs hurr):

* Excuse Plot: Invoked: The song "Japan" was only written so the trio could vacation in Japan at the expense of the record label.
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: The entirety of "Who Said We're Wack".
  • Parental Incest: "Motherlover" flips this on its head by singing about the two main characters having sexual intercourse with the other one's mother.
  • But Not Too Gay: Invoked in "3-Way", where the duo convinces one another that their threesome with one girl is not homosexual.

[up]I don't think that would count at all under Parental Incest, considering no actual incest (i.e. sexual relations between two people with genetic relation) is taking place. Nor would it count as My Own Grampa, since that involves Time Travel and becoming one's genetic grandfather (as opposed to legal stepfather, as discussed at the end of "Motherlover").

The other examples look good, though.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.

Excuse Plot is only for games. You might be thinking about Money, Dear Boy. Parental Incest is not a valid example, as noted. Similarly, that is not an example of But Not Too Gay, either, unless one or both male characters is canonically gay. It might be Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?.

Wikipedia: Please move "Stop Having Fun" Guys to the YMMV tab.

Also, is there any chance it can be unlocked? Fast Eddie locked it for "starting to attract nonsense again" but I don't see anything too bad added in the last few edits before that — just a SINGLE [citation needed] joke which is hardly "nonsense". Locking it for one joke edit is overkill don't you think?

And third, The Lonely Island has a link to {{300}} that looks like this —> {{300}} <— instead of properly linking. Can someone fix it so it's actually a link?

[up]That is not even an example of "Stop Having Fun" Guys.

Also, why were the requests for Zerg Rush ignored?

Deleted SHFG from Wikipedia. Fixed the 300 reference on The Lonely Island. Updated Zerg Rush as requested (sorry, I lost track of it).

Did I miss anything?

[up]I was kinda worried that it was being deliberately ignored, but having Aspergers Syndrome makes me think weird stuff like that, so yeah. And you got everything else.

Can the old version of This Troper be restored? I found it on the way back archive. Also, does anyone have any idea how to find the image now that the history is wiped?

"This Troper", "this editor", "I", "me" — or any other form of referring to yourself in an article is bad wiki writing. The article you are writing is for the reader. It is not about you or for you. It's for the reader. Leave yourself out of it. TV Tropes isn't a forum or blog.

By the way, in Troper Tales and the few other places where the story is about you, you should never really need to use This Troper, you could just use "I", or your handle.

Abuses of This Troper, This Editor, I, and Me:

Adding commentary to examples

For instance:

  • In Firefly, Earth has become inhabitable and is now called "Earth That Was".
    • This Troper thinks the word you're looking for is "uninhabitable".

This is a wiki, and you are allowed and expected to edit other people's general examples. Examples that are full of corrections or that contradict themselves will lead to confusion. The proper thing in this case would've been to quietly add the "un", rather than gloat over a simple mistake.

Telling about your own shenanigans

  • This Troper and his best bud in middle school also came up with a Zany Scheme or two.

If you want to tell personal stories, we're interested. Just use Troper Tales, where it is okay to use your handle.

Equivocating

  • If this Troper recalls correctly [...]

Be bold. Just put in the recollection.

Soapboxing

  • In this Troper's opinion [...]

The articles aren't really about your opinion. Discussions pages are there for that sort of thing.

Validation

  • Many people (this Troper included) [...]

Your personal stamp of approval is unnecessary.

Just let the article and its examples be about the trope. It isn't about you, it's about the trope. We're interested in your opinion, but keep it to the discussion page, or a Review page.

Fighteer - any chance Wikipedia could be unlocked? As I said, Fast Eddie locked it for silliness creeping in, after ONE joke edit. ONE FREAKING JOKE EDIT. If that's not overkill, I don't know what is.

Curiosity demands to know what, exactly, needs to be said about Wikipedia that isn't already in the article. I think the problem is that many of our articles about other sites are automatic troll targets. Easier to lock the barn door than retrieve the cows after they escape.

This example needs to be added in the Comic Books folder in This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!:

  • Scott Pilgrim and the Infinite Sadness had the vegan police announce Todd Ingram had eaten "Gelato, bitch!" The movie puts its own spin on it.
—>Todd: "Gelato isn't vegan?"
Vegan policeman: "It's milk and eggs, bitch."

edit: Markup doesn't work similarly on the forum, but the quotes are supposed to be indented

I actually tried to put the whole entry in [=these brackets=], but it messed up some of the symbols for some reason.

Like this:

* ''ScottPilgrim and the Infinite Sadness'' had the vegan police announce Todd Ingram had eaten "Gelato, bitch!" The [[ScottPilgrimVsTheWorld movie]] puts its own spin on it.
-->'''Todd''': "Gelato isn't vegan?"
-->'''Vegan policeman''': "It's milk and eggs, bitch."

I'd like to start the page for Anime Arcadia, but it's been locked. I believe it's because I tried to start it before and only wrote "Describe Anime Arcadia here" as a placeholder until I could find time to write a summary and begin the article. I realize now that that was probably a mistake, so could it be unlocked, please?
