Well, what does the Witch Queen have in terms of supernatural power? I picked her as a candidate because her overall design — including her wardrobe — is so fitting for a member of the Silver Millennium's dynasty (give or take a few pragmatic modifications).

I can't seem to find any thread or trope page for Girlfriend (Kari). How come?

It's more like there isn't a single troper who bothered to launch a page. Launching a work page with the minimum material probably won't take much time, but since Girlfriend (Kari), AFAIK, is quite large of a franchise...

Of course that comes from my own first-hand experience; I pretty much launched Tantei Team KZ Jiken Note, a current-season show that no tropers has theretofore discussed (it wasn't even in the season lineup page until I added it—probably because it's basically a tween show), over the past weekend. That's a smaller franchise, though.

I would also want tropers to take a look at that page; I don't see a single-editor work page as a very good thing if there's a choice (risk for bias and omissions).

Started watching Gargantia. I was aware of the Earth All Along twist, but I didn't know it was outright said at the end of the first episode... does that even count as a twist?

I recently stumbled upon Anime Lab, which is like Crunchyroll with less numerous and less intrusive ads, and I picked up Waiting In The Summer.

It seems like a dime-a-dozen Slice of Life Love Dodecahedron with a wacky twist to try and separate it from the crowd, and there's a lot of fanservice. But it's really funny and I'm liking it a lot.

Animelab is amazingly good. Although I think it's Australian / New Zealand exclusive.

Either way it's great that Australia is getting more options for anime steaming. I've noticed the amount of simulcasts has increased significantly since Animelab arrived.

2[up] Have you watched Please Teacher and Please Twins ? Waiting in the Summer is sort of a spiritual successor to those, very similar in its execution and probably set in the same universe.

I haven't, I just picked this up when I started using Anime Lab. I can cut it a bit of slack if it's a new instalment or spiritual successor in a series of shows - I thought it was just the show runners going "stereotypical teen romantic comedy... with SEXY ALIENS!" to try and carve out a niche in the bloated romantic slice of life market. Being a franchise reboot/instalment is a bit more forgivable, the foundation was already set before they made the show

I might check them out - late 90's to mid 2000's anime feels very nostalgic with the way everything's animated, and as much as I rip on the concept, this show's really funny and kinda sweet.

Yeah Anime Lab's a really, really good site. Not only for being a fantastic first major anime streaming site for AUS and NZ, but it's so functional, the ads aren't terrible and the amount of shows they get and keep adding is staggering.

I joined up when they began last year and signed up for their premium service as soon as it came (Plus I got a kickass box of stuff from it too).

The vast majority of anime I'm watching now is from them, plus their reps from social media and cons are really nice.

That's a pretty sweet Koro-sensei poster.

I also never knew Violet had a name. That poster makes her look very cool, I'd watch/read something based around her character.

Yeah all of those posters were pretty cool, shame I haven't actually hung them up yet.

I also never knew Violet had a name. That poster makes her look very cool, I'd watch/read something based around her character.
There's no video of it online, but AnimeLab had their own panel at Supanova Perth which they streamed online through Periscope (which is where I watched it from).

They went into some detail on Violet's character from the name and appearance to her relation to Madman's Mad Scientist mascot (her being his daughter pretty much parallels AnimeLab being Madman's child). They even had some cool ideas regarding that hologram glove she uses which I can't quite remember.

It's some neat stuff I'd love for them to expand on as some extra fun on the site, plus amusingly, one of the reps I met at SMASH Con this year remarked on the idea of getting a voice actress for her.

Streaming waifu confirmed. tongue

I think I saw her once when I was first signing up through my PS 3. They really put a lot of effort into her for a mascot.

That's another thing - their PS 3 app doesn't suck. Crunchyroll was good for 3 minute shows, but full episodes had up to four ads and when the streaming stops, it can take almost 2 minutes to start again. And it goes back a few minutes too.

Just finished Dennou Coil. Slow pacing in the first few episodes, too much technobabble, awesome show.

Say, suppose we have a AU mega-crossover between various non-sports-related anime and manga, which puts the myriad casts into a Slam Dunk- / Kuroko no Basuke-style inter-high school basketball national competition, with the additional caveat that the sport and its major official competitions have become mixed-gender. Which cast would you guys nominate to serve the role of the "king" of the prefecture from which the protagonist team hails, paralleling Kainan High's relationship to Shouhoku High in Slam Dunk?

My pick: Either the Lyrical Nanoha crew, or the Mahou Sensei Negima! crew, with Nanoha/Negi as the captain of the team and the local counterpart of Slam Dunk's Shin'ichi Maki (aside from looks, that is).

Oh hey, looks like there's a new manga in Jump Square featuring the combination of Nishio Isin on writing and Akira Akatsuki on art. The last time this happened, we got Medaka Box, so...

Nishio Isin is an overrated hack, IMO.

Finished watching UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie today. For all the hate I've seen directed at it by various reviews, it was actually a pretty harmless comedy show. Sort of a mix of Hand Maid May and Oh My Goddess, with random space opera elements thrown in (the first season seemed to be deliberately spoofing Star Wars at times). The animation, while far from impressive, was acceptable for its vintage, and the humor was better than some I've seen. Kazuto and Valkyrie were both incredibly generic, boring characters, but fortunately the rest of the cast was considerably more entertaining. (Also, am I the only one who thinks Akina looks uncannily like Haruhi Suzumiya?)

Next up is Hikaru no Go. Part of the reason I got into anime back in 2010 was that someone I know (whom I had played Go with occasionally over the years) recommended for me to watch this- and now, 115 anime shows later, it's finally reached the top of my PTW queue. At 75 episodes plus a 77-minute movie, this could also beat out Shakugan no Shana for the longest running time of any anime I've seen. I just hope it doesn't get too boring along the way.

Oh hey, it's neat that someone's translating the Fruits Basket sequel.

It's so weird though, the preview said way way back that we're not going to see anyone related to the previous series, but by chapter 5, I'm thinking that the author is falling into old habits. XD

Preview blurb sveral months ago: NOTHING to do with the Sohmas, nope, this is just set in the same school.

Actual series: Shout-outs. Shout-outs EVERYWHERE. It should be telling that the homeroom teacher is Saki's freaking kid brother Megumi, and the other teacher was the over-enthusiastic Student Council President who used to fawn on Yuki.

And it's only obliquely alluded that the two new Sohma cousins are Tohru's son with Kyo, and Yuki's son with Machi.
