@ Cold Case stealing Home

Oz, who had given Gonzalo a "family discount", threatens the family due to the surprise presence of the ballplayers he would have charged more for. Gonzalo pays him off and confronts Reyes, whose claims that he plans to bring in the elder Luques afterward with the money the other ballplayers bring in fail to keep Gonzalo from firing Reyes over this dangerous breach of trust.

@ Cold Case

  • In "Forever Blue," did McCree kill Coop out of simple homophobia or did he decide to go that far due to Coop standing up to his corrupt ties to the drug trade (in which case, confessing to a hate crime might have felt like a case of Confess to a Lesser Crime to him, especially depending upon how long that corruption lasted)? Then again, the two motives aren't mutually exclusive.

  • In "Stealing Home", Jaime Reyes claims that his efforts to get Cuban baseball players to defect under risky circumstances (and sometimes while willingly or unwilling leaving their families behind) are to undermine the Castro regime, but is he really a Well-Intentioned Extremist or does he just care about the money? He does clearly relish his wealth and success, is now booking non-Cuban players, and never does give the detectives paperwork he claims to have that proves he managed Gonzalo Luque's affairs honestly. On the other hand, he did pay back Gonzalo's family some money he misappropriated to smuggle other baseball players out of Cuba despite parting with Gonzalo on bad terms and being in a position where no one might have known differently if he didn't due to Gonzalo's death.

@ Julius Katz

  • One story has a blackmailer get murdered by her victim (a hit-and-run killer) who then finds himself being blackmailed by a witness to her murder and also kills the second blackmailer.
  • Julius Katz and Archie features two blackmail backfires, one far more mundane than the other: a man who tries to blackmail a murderer into being his stooge and is killed by him, and a Caustic Critic who tries to blackmail his lover over their affair and ends up arrested for extortion.

  • In "Julius Katz and the Ruined Roast," the stand-up comic victim's wife divorced him due to suspicion of adultery after he kept refusing to let her accompany him on several road trips. Actually, he had a double life as a mob courier and was afraid for her safety if she became involved in that part of his life.
  • Wham Episode: "Julius Katz and the Two Cousins" ends with Julius collecting his biggest fee ever and using it to buy a vineyard, propose to his girlfriend, and retire, while giving Archie to his superspy sister to use for her investigations.
@ The King Nobody Wanted

  • Chapter 73 strongly implies with this line that Uthera Ruari, a mysterious visitor to Viserys' court, is descended from House Blackfyre (which made five attempts to take the Iron Throne) after she is questioned about living under an alias.
Uthera: I'm a woman of mad determination, like my father's people. And aye, like my mother's. Five failures will not dissuade us when we've decided on a course.
  • In Chapter 74, Tywin's growing distance from his older children as they defy him in ways they never did in canon causes him to take a new step for his house's future that he never did in canon.
Stannis: He is to be formally betrothed to Alysanne Whent.
  • In Chapter 93, escaped prisoner Alliser Thorne is confused when a group of people he encounters at a wedding insist on taking him to see their family, and only recognizes the significance of it when he sees one of the women waiting for them at their tent.
"Alliser?" said his sister, and then suddenly he was wrapped in her arms.
@ Cold Case
  • The New Old Flame scene in "Yo, Adrian" where Jerry and Gina meet outside the movie theater and he compares her to Adrian from Rocky while her best friend is in Shipper on Deck mode.
  • In "Hoodrats":
    • It’s a minor moment, but right before Nash is murdered, he's preparing to go return the expensive camera that he borrowed from his girlfriend Vonda and that she initially thought he seduced her to steal after his disappearance.
    • Grady keeps a video of his archrival Nash mastering the trick that Grady became famous for after he spent month studying the video following Nash's dissapearence. When the cops ask him why he kept the video, Grady replies watching Nash do the trick was too beautiful a sight to destroy it.
    • The epilogue shows the skatebaords with Nash's personal logo finally being produced and sold.
  • In "Bombers," there's the scene of the homeless sewer dwellers admiring the mural that Carlos paints in the sewers, with one of them (who now runs a soup kitchen and later shows the mural to the detectives) saying that he still visits it as a reminder about how far he's come in the past decades.

YMMV.Transformers:

  • Broken Base: Non-transforming figures. Some fans like them and argue they allow for greater accuracy and articulation since they don't have to deal with Kibbles and Bits and other compromises for the vehicle mode, while others hate them for stripping away the core gimmick and selling point of the Transformers and what made them appealing.

  • Sacred Cow: Being the wise and compassionate leader of the Autobots and an inspirational role model of many an '80s child (and beyond), Optimus Prime is widely beloved by fans and regarded as one of the greatest heroes of all time, so naturally, he gets this status. While certain depictions of him can be divisive (like his incarnation in the live-action films), any hatred towards him is a good way to receive the wrath of the entire fandom. This also extends to his voice actor, Peter Cullen, who is just as beloved.

Jon Moxley

  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Inverted. Throughout his career, Ambrose/Moxley has faced numerous betrayals. Notable individuals who have turned their backs on him include Seth Rollins, James Elsworth, The Young Bucks and William Regal.

  • Everyone Has Standards: Ambrose betrays Rollins during the October 22, 2018 episode of Raw with the excuse that he always has to play second fiddle to both Rollins and Reigns. While Ambrose is prepared to follow the script, the unexpected announcement of Reigns' leukemia earlier that evening leaves Ambrose feeling uneasy. Ambrose becomes disheartened with WWE for forcing him to participate in that storyline, which eventually becomes one of the reasons he leaves WWE six months later.

Georgie!

  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Maria attracts attention for being one of the few nice aristocrats in the series. Many people would like to see her go to Australia with the heroes in the finale.
    • Sister Kate has fans because she has been a moral support to Georgie many times and has been like a caring mom or big sister to her. It also helps that she is a nun and very pretty.
    • Abel Jr, Georgie and Abel's son, is very well liked by fans, and one of the reasons why the ending of the anime is controversial is because he was removed from the story.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Maria seemed to enjoy being around Arthur, and most of the time she treated him much better than her brother and tried to ease his suffering with her care. Needless to say, some viewers were disappointed by their separation in the finale, because their relationship was genuinely wholesome and touching, and Arthur even regarded her as his new crush. They had a lot of potential to be a beta couple for Georgie and Abel.

The Expanded Universe novel (and the movie adaptation of the said novel) for the Fatal Frame franchise features the mysterious deaths in the all-female Christian school that involve Suicide Pact rituals of Christian school lesbians.

^ You already said Christian school once, so saying it again is unnecessary.

The true ending has Rei successfully exorcising Reika Kuze at the Manor of Sleep, while the three protagonists...said birth has the side effect of drastically shortening Miku's lifespan.

ComicBook.Transformers Generation 2

  • Art Evolution: A toy variation. The original Laser Optimus Prime depicted his truck mode with a red gradient at the front. Later versions of the toy — such as the Legacy Evolution version — would replace the red gradient with flames similar to his Bayformers counterpart.

YMMV.Howls Moving Castle:

  • Franchise Original Sin: Well, creator original sin is probably more accurate. The film has been criticized for deviating too far from the novel. However, Kiki's Delivery Service, one of the most beloved Ghibli films, also deviates heavily from its original novel. The difference is that the original Kiki book was a simple episodic Slice of Life novel, with the new elements adding to the story and arguably strengthening it by having a more focused narrative and giving Kiki a character arc. Howl's Moving Castle, however, is a more expansive story that suffered from having too many elements from it left out, with the new elements (like the anti-war plotline) clashing too much with the original story, unlike in Kiki's case, where they felt natural.

  • So Okay, It's Average: While this is far from the overall consensus, some fans feel that, while it's far from a bad film, it's Miyazaki's weakest work. Many good elements are present, such as the memorable cast, the beautiful animation (as usual from Studio Ghibli), and the strong chemistry between Howl and Sophie. However, despite these good elements, the film is let down by sloppy pacing, Sophie lacking the depth of other Ghibli protagonists (thanks to the film cutting out a lot of her development from the books), and a messy Kudzu Plot stemming from the film doing too many things at once, while also leaving out too many key elements from the books.

YMMV.Transformers:

  • More Popular Spin Off: Transformers is this for both Diaclone and Micro Change (the predecessors to Transformers). While both lines had some popularity in Japan, the massive domestic and worldwide success of Transformers quickly eclipsed both toylines. So much so that Transformers co-owner Takara Tomy rarely acknowledges Diaclone and Micro Change today outside of occasional homages and the rare re-release.

  • Once Original, Now Common: Given how much more articulated, complex, and detailed current Transformers have gotten, it can be easy to dismiss the original Gen 1 toys as being overly simple and products of their time, which they certainly are, but it cannot be understated that the gimmick of robots that transform into vehicles was a very innovative concept for the 1980s and made them stand out from many other action figure lines at the time.note

@ Cold Case

  • For fans who prefer more grounded Detective Drama television, Season 1, while still having decent detective work, has a lot more episodes where the identity of the killer or solution of the case is directly tied to the evidence that reopens the case and the killer's identity and/or motive is obvious from early on (although there are generally enough other suspects to keep things interesting). Starting in season 2, while the acting and writing remain great, the show begins falling back on the more common Never the Obvious Suspect mystery resolution for the majority of the episodes (to the point where such efforts actually make it obvious that certain kinds of characters like victims' cousins or older brothers are guilty in about 90% of the episodes to feature such characters), often has the motive for the murder be as big of a twist as the killer's identity, and frequently has the information that gets the case reopened be less central to its resolution.

@ Ciaphas Cain

  • Lovable Coward: He is constantly rattled by bad news and initially cowers during a firefight, but as an administrator without any experience in battle, it is to be expected, and he is a polite and competent guy who also helps bandage the injured General Hekwyn.
  • Pet the Dog: He allows for extenuating circumstances when disciplining one of his men for getting into a fight with Magot (although that could just be to show his disfavor toward the Valhallans) and, judging by the way he addresses a pair of random Tallaran troopers by name in the climax, seems to make some effort to know the men he's assigned to.

@ Ciaphas Cain

  • Sergeant Alem Mahat only appears in the last few chapters of The Traitor's Hand, but has a decent following for being a tough Sergeant Rock who gets some touching and hilarious moments of being a Hero-Worshipper toward Cain in a gradually literal fashion.

@ Star Wars Legends

  • Hoar, the Badass Normal Sole Survivor of the clan that Anakin massacred to avenge his mother, only appears in Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi, a blog article, and the canonicallynote  "fuzzy" manga story Perfect Evil, but is called the greatest Tusken character in Legends by some fans.

  • Vader's apprentice Tao from the canonicallynote  "fuzzy" manga story Perfect Evil may not be as popular as Starkiller, but is generally considered to be an excellently written character who fans wouldn't have minded seeing appear past that comic. His unnamed Jedi companions from the Action Prologue are also a pretty cooly-drawn group, with several getting Wookiepedia pages very quickly after their debut despite none of them being named.

  • Lusa from The Crystal Star and Young Jedi Knights has a lot of fans for essentially being a centaur Jedi with a Slave Liberation backstory that gives her a nice friendship with the Solo children.

@ Star Wars Legends

@ WKRP in Cincinnati

  • Rex Erhardt is only briefly seen in one episode, but gets some love for being the only non-main DJ to physically appear and get dialogue.
  • Servile Snarker butler Hirsch only appears in four episodes, but the amount of laughs he gets wins him huge popularity.

Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth

  • Artistic License – Gun Safety: Played for Laughs. In one possible scene at the central hub, Junpei is explaining to Ryuji how to use the Evoker when suddenly Ryuji aims the gun-shaped device at him and Yosuke, scaring them both. Ryuji, who handles a shotgun in his game, should be aware of basic gun safety, even if his guns are just models in the real world. What makes this scene funnier is that Junpei, who has been using an Evoker for months, comments on how intimidating the device is even though it doesn't shoot bullets.
