Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Unsure if this one was brought up before, but would the Stitch Sisters from Courage the Cowardly Dog episode "The Quilt Club" qualify?

Like The Great Fusilli, they are a minor villain in the show, but their episode is also one of the darkest. They preyed upon Muriel's loneliness and desire for friends in a similar hobby through their quilt club, making her wanting to join the club very badly over and over, driving her into obsession with trying to impress them so that she could get in, to where she's neglecting her own health and forgets about Eustace and nearly Courage, thinking of nothing else but them and their club. Once Muriel finally does get into the club, they embroidered her whole body into their magic quilt through a symbol that they use to grant and maintain their everlasting life. Like with Fusilli, they have done this with other people before, all of them also thinking of nothing else but belonging to the Sisters' quilt to fuel their immortality, while gloating in front of Courage how Muriel doesn't want him anymore and laughing at Muriel's suffering as she cries out for help. And last, to add insult to injury, they were intending to throw away all of Muriel's treasured memory quilts so that there would be nothing to make her remember those who she cares about.

While their actions don't leave that much of a negative impact, unlike with Fusilli, their villainy is still played very seriously like with Katz, and they stand out as being one of the few, if not the only ones who actually provokes anger and hate from Courage himself instead of just fear for all they've done to Muriel.

Re: Kai: Denying someone the afterlife is pretty bad but he didn't do it to nearly as many people as Shen did. Plus again, he's relationship with Oog is too ambiguous to really say he's a monster. We've had villains who've done something like that before (like Kuja and of course G 4 Tirek) but were rejected either for having redeeming qualities or not causing as much collateral damage as other villains.

Someone brought up Sora Takeuchi earlier and might I say he was far from a Graceful Loser. The guy placed a bomb in his girlfriend who was carrying his child as insurance (similar to Obito) and was willing to kill her and the baby off if Ikki didn't surrender. Not only is this a dick move but he would have destroyed the tower and he knew perfectly well he would have probably killed thousands. He tried to massacre an entire city and the world just because there was someone who was a better Storm King than him. I'd have to read the manga for more details but Sora is far from a graceful loser and all the characters he showed kindness to he ended up callously discarding.

Also I think I proposed Sora a long time ago but given very few people were familiar with Air Gear, it didn't go through. Now that it's gotten more popular, we can have that example with. But yes, Nike's moral agency is questionable and he dies genuinely care for Rika so Sora's the only candidate.

Fair warning: I can get pretty emotional and take things too seriously.

Can we do something about the page image for the Monster.Creepypasta page? It's a collage of Red from the NES Godzilla Creepypasta, but the image is so compressed that you can hardly make out what's going on. It doesn't help that Red tends to blend in with the background. I think some of the images used could serve as a good page image, but they need to be much larger.

  • Alicization Arc: Quinella is the ruler of the Underworld server and High Minister of the Axiom Church. In an effort to obtain immortality, she fused herself with the Cardinal System of Underworld. After her success, she began corrupting the souls of the Underworld nobility by separating the nations and spreading ignorance and fear among the populace. After making the populace believe herself a Goddess, she created the Axiom Church and named herself the Highest Minister. Quinella brainwashed every rebel fighting against her government and the Champions of the Four Empires Unity Tournament. She also performs fatal experiments on innocent people in order to learn the secrets of the human units. She confiscated all the defenses of the Human Empire After realizing the invasion of the Dark Territory was inevitable, Quinella confiscated every line of defenses from Human Empire to make the people more dependent on the Axiom Church. When faced with possible defeat by the Dark Territory, Quinella transforms thousands of people into a sword for her to wield, her victims conscious in their new form. She claims this action was for the safety of these people, but it's clear she shows no remorse for trapping these people in such a state. A narcissistic sociopath and a selfish woman, Quinella only wants to control everything in her reach, killing and torturing anyone who dares to challenge her or "her" empire.

  • I'll tweak Krane and Quinella tomorrow (kudos VM for the Quinella edit).
  • I like the image of Black Manta, if only because 1) he's killing, well, a baby; and 2) because it's such an iconic scene. The image of VM works for the Image Links page though.

By the way, interesting little story about Black Manta. Originally, he did have a Freudian Excuse, and it was... autism. That was seriously it, autism made him evil. Eventually somebody realized that hey, this was kinda messed up, and did a story where Manta's autism was cured with magic... and literally the very first thing he does is shoot Aquaman In the Back, because autism doesn't make people evil, stupid.

I was already aware of the Manta's autism. I don't buy it as a Freudian Excuse, though.

EDIT: Another part of it was that he was sold into slavery and he was upset that Aquaman didn't save him. Don't know why they needed to put in autism; the slavery was sufficient as it was.

I probably shouldn't for whatever reason, but I have another re-write this week. (I noticed I'm not even suggesting new entries or rejected entries while putting them in a different light to convince others that they should be accepted. Should put more effort into doing that) This time it's from Mega Man, specifically from Star Force. The villainous Gemini.

Gemini, from the first game, kills one of his allies for no reason when he could've easily helped her and defeated Mega Man. He also manipulates a boy with multiple personality disorder into helping him to blow up the entire planet and is revealed as the one who manipulated King Cepheus into destroying the AM Planet.

Small, too small.

Gemini, from the first game, is a wicked FM-ian who despises all other forms of life, both organic and EM-based. A destruction loving sadist and advisor to King Cepheus, he took advantage of the king’s paranoia by convincing him to destroy Planet AM, their neighboring world. When they discover Omega-Xis stole the key to activating Andromeda, their planet destroying super weapon, to Earth, Gemini was among the FM-ians sent to reclaim it, secretly plotting to destroy Earth and take down Cepheus. He finds a compatible human in Patrick Sprigs, a boy abandoned as a baby who suffers from a violent split personality named “Rey”. He takes advantage of this, manipulating Pat’s feelings and other half, convincing him to destroy humanity by merging with him to form Gemini Spark and use Andromeda themselves while using their powers to make humans attack each other. When one of his allies, Queen Ophiuca, is defeated by Mega Man and begs him for help, Gemini responds by killing her on the spot. He’s eventually defeated, but his manipulations of Pat and Geo convince the latter to abandon everyone in his life for a time. He’s later revived when Cepheus decides to use Andromeda, putting Gemini in charge of stopping Mega Man. He attempts to destroy the machinery needed to help Mega Man reach Cepheus, suggesting he’s fine getting himself killed to destroy the Earth. Upon his defeat, he asks Cepheus to destroy the planet to avenge him. Loyal only to himself and his love of destruction, Gemini is Star Force’s poster child for Aliens Are Bastards.

I shortened it as best as I can. On Microsoft word it was about four columns while my revised is 19. If someone would like to suggest something or write a different one, that'd be nice. Otherwise, this okay to use?
