@Disappearance!Yuki pic: I'm getting a "service temporarily unavailable" error.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I don't think you can really refer to a "Durandallverse" as regards his Haruhi fic; they're not all even remotely in the same continuity.
Shinigan (Naruto fanfic)Referring to it as KBDH!verse might be better as he does have lots of Haruhi fics and many are conflicting especially New Game +. However then you have Kyon fron KBDH showing up in Later so who knows.

Unclouded TJ: Taking Bunny-Ears Lawyer too literally.For some time I've seen Durandall's other Haruhi fics as seet in other worlds Kanae didn't reach in her backstory (hopefully, because of Wataru and the Combine going after her trail).
Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerHe said in the notes that Inversion wasn't a story he was originally going to write but he wrote it to help himself get through some personal issues. So even though it would fit in the continuity for that to be the "canon" Disappearance-verse for BDH's purpose, short of Word of God saying he's decided that's the case I'm not sure it's that likely.
Then again, my pet theory is still that it's actually the world from TheVanishingOfNagatoYuki-chan and that's equally unlikely. I wonder if this will actually come up in the plot or not.

Chapter 60 draft is up
Welcome to Whose Fanfic Is It Anyways? Where the plots are made up and the canon doesn't matter!When you write like that (in a nice round number like Chapter 60, 10k+ pages each chapter) you realize the fic has gone a long way...
Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerWelp, Durandall says that he's going to need to do a lot of editing before we should bother checking for tropes...
...so, "Kyon" was named after the ringing of a bell, huh?

I have returned, and my vacation in the void was so boring...I usually wait for the final post anyway.
So let's worry about tropes on previous chapters, shall we?
In chapter 54 (LL-4) we have Kyon carrying Haruhi to closed space again. About Tsuruya's reaction by that time and after their return... Heroic BSoD or Freak Out? Tears of Fear or Broken Tears?

Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailer
@Filraen:
IMO, none of these four tropes applies. IIRC, Tsuruya thought that she messed it up big time, but I think she was more desperate to fix things than anything else.
My K:BDH Recursive FanfictionIn order to not talk about the beta, I offer some photos of a sword made by Sukemune, student of Sukehiro, of the Settsu region.

No matter how fast light travels it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it. —Terry Pratchett(All quotes are from Tsuruya's PoV in ch. 54/LL-4)
Sure, Tsuruya started like that...
...
"Ah, I'll give you some privacy," she said quickly, bowing her head and backing away.
... but when she started to believe she had made an irreparable mistake...
... her reactions gor progressively more desperate...
... and less Tsuruya-like *.
Even her return from that was considerably... weak for her usual enthusiasm.
At very least I think it qualifies as an Out-of-Character Moment, but I still believe some of the other tropes may work better.

Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerWhat you might be looking for in that case is Hates Being Alone with a dash of Please, Don't Leave Me.
Dost Thou Desire the Power ... Glove? It's so bad.Random thought: For how close the harem is, I find it strange that none of them ever use "the L word." I think the closest they've come is Haruhi saying this:
"T...that seems to suit you, though," Kanae hazarded, smiling cautiously. "If it's worth doing, it's worth going all out on?"
Edit: Which I guess technically counts but it seems pretty indirect.

When were lines said, if I can ask, kitsu?

I have returned, and my vacation in the void was so boring...That could just be a cultural difference. Isn't it more common in Japanese to leave that implied through actions rather than saying it straight out?
I wouldn't know. I assumed that wasn't the case due to a certain Gratuitous English scene in the novel/anime.

Now, Kyon did tell Haruhi "I like you a lot" (which would translate back to "dai suki" or similar), which is about as far as Japanese couples would go in a highschool romance (back in chapter 14). And Nagato's "I am currently unable to conceive a greater intensity than the one I experience at this moment in relation to you" I think certainly counts, as does (in lesser fashion) Kyon's reply of "You have to believe that I like you too, though. Because ... I do." (Both in chapter 13.)
It's no embracing someone from behind and whispering "Ai raabuu yuu" into their ear, but it's close enough for work contracted out by a Diet ministry.
No matter how fast light travels it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it. —Terry PratchettAh, yes... The same chapter as Kanae's first utterance of the words "Suzumiya-sempai!"
Edit: Gah! I've been ninja'd!!! (falls flat)

I have returned, and my vacation in the void was so boring...And just today and tommorrow I won't have the time to give it a proper read to the chapter...
Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerAgain, not familiar with Japanese culture, but... well, for starters they've got more reasons to be close than an average high school romance.
I'm not saying they should be saying it every time they see each other, but there's been once or twice where I've thought a sentiment like that would go a long way towards calming someone mid-freakout. (That scene with Tsuruya quoted above would be one of them but Haruhi did make out with her by way of reassurance. )
@Filraen:
How about this edition for Tsuruya's Character Entry:
- Hates Being Alone: Having lived all her life as a Lonely Rich Yakuza Princess and just recently finding not only friends but True Companions she reacts strongly to anything which may threaten them or her relationship with them. This comes to a head in Chapter 54 where she (almost desperately) seeks for a way to make amends for something that Haruhi will later confess it was her own bottled up jealousy getting the better of her.
@Taper:
So there really was a "Sukemune, student of Sukehiro, of the Settsu regions"◊. IMO, it's an instance of Shown Their Work in its subtlest and finest.
Re. the "L word".
Just for the record: IINM Yuki said "I like you. A lot" to Kyon in Fi-3* and Kuyou told her Alternate Self that she was "in love with him" in OB-5*. Kind of amusing considering that they are the former Emotionless Girls. More indirectly, there is also the thing in Re-2* where Kyouko, someone who had to monitor Sasaki's emotional state for a few years (24/7) through their Psychic Link, outright stated that Sasaki was "hopelessly in love with him".
IMO, reason why they don't use the word "love" as much as I think they could is because of a mix of cultural conventions and personality trails. For example, Haruhi's inner Tsundere makes it difficult for her and Mikuru is just too shy most of the time (and she's too busy kissing Kyon when she is not).
Another (more Doylist) reason could be the difference between the words "suki" (好き) and "aishiteru" (愛してる). Both can be correctly translated from Japanese to English as "[I] love [you]", but the latter has a much stronger connotation, the kind of high caliber thing that a shoujo manga saves for a particularly significant moment (...Or So I Heard). IOW, it's possible that Durandall is simply reserving it for future scenes where the distinction will be better appreciated by the readers if the usage of the "L word" is sparse until that point.
My K:BDH Recursive FanfictionI wasn't gonna nitpick about the difference between "like a lot" and "love" but since it's come up twice now I'll just say that yes I'm aware that "like" is said, there's a difference between that and "love" (even teenage hormone-induced puppy love) so that's not what I'm talking about. I forgot about Kuyou saying that, though.
You might be right about Durandall holding onto it, Specular, like I said I just think there's already been one or two scenes where a "Precision L Strike" would have been appropriate. Either way though it's not a bad thing, I just find it a little odd it hasn't come up by now.
On the general subject of Japanese language, I recently got caught up on One Piece through scanlations so I could read the chapters my Jump subscription gets me and not be confused, and I find that after hours spent reading poorly translated manga, I'm a lot more irritated by Durandall's tendency to write Japanese language quirks into English dialogue than I used to be. Things like random shifts to third-person ("Kyon-kun sure is reliable!" when talking to Kyon) used to just nag my ignorable grammar OCD, but now they make me cringe for some reason.
Durandall's dialogue obviously isn't even comparable to the epic terribleness of outright bad translation, so I'm trying to figure out what the deal is here. I guess certain dialogue felt unnatural, but with something genuinely outright bad to compare it to, rereading the same dialogue again the reasons it feels unnatural are highlighted.
I've been reading this story for so long it feels kind of petty to gripe about a quirk like that now, but yeah.

You think that Disappearance/Inversion!Haruhi's reaction to KBDH!Kyon will be worth the price of admission? Wait until she finds out about what KBDH!Haruhi can do, not to mention the rest of the Brigade. That will be priceless.
@ Inversion: I read it, marked it as a favorite on the browser, and have one thought: How would Disappearance!Asakura react to KBDH!Achakura, kitsu?
Edit(despite the fact that I edited this thing repeatedly before now): Curiously, I want to consider Inversion as what actually happened after "John Smith" hit that button, Durandallverse-wise. Maybe we should ask if this is so?
