Welcome to the Agency. We do anything a client wants us to do when they can't get the help they need from the police. Want a bodyguard to protect you from an assassin trying to take you out? We can help you out. Got a bad feeling that the boogeyman's waiting to kill you in your sleep? We can take care of that. Whatever job our clients need to resolve, we take it without any hesitation. Even if it sounds silly.

The job is certainly dangerous and it comes with the risk. So it you want to make a difference, then the Agency is eager to let you join us.

Inspired by the likes of Human Target (2010 version by Fox) and the cartoon version of Martin Mystery, this takes place in the modern times where an Agency is hired by clients to help them resolve their problems when the police are at a dead end. So like Human Target, there are times for comedy and action, depending on the situation.

This will be a crossover RP in terms of existing characters being played in the 21st century. So for those who are from franchises/series not set in modern times... Well we need to work them out so that they fit. Be mindful of Superweight, 0-3 characters preferred.

What's the verdict on alien or fantastical characters? Write them into Earth's history somehow or make them human? I'm guessing paranormal and supernatural abilities are fine from the mention of boogeymen in the OP.

Depends on the situation. I can do a mix.

As for the second one, that's a yes.

  • Name: Sollux Captor
  • Appearance: goiing two u2e the troll ver2iion
  • Origin: Homestuck
  • Backstory: Sollux is an Alternian Troll trapped on Earth due to... shenanigans, yeah, let's go with that. As a completely new alien species there were obviously parties interested in either capturing or manipulating him to meet their ends, however they did not account for his powerful psionics or his ridiculous programming and hacking skills which allowed him to evade them long enough to seek out a group powerful enough to keep him protected, the Agency. The agency saw worth in his talents and recruited him as a hacker, programmer, and psion.
  • Specialty: Hacking, Programming, and Psionics
  • Equipment: Briefcase laptop for on the go and a Beehive Mainframe at his primary residence
  • Comments: Is reworkable to a human if necessary

Shouldn't be a problem unless there are objections. Making Sollux a human can be done in-universe depending on need in an operation. Probably handwave with alien tech that can give a human appearance when needed.

Hmm. What's the general structure of the Agency at the story's start? Are we talking about a loose professional affiliation of detective agencies and the like, or is it a high-powered, well-resourced branch of the government like Her Majesty's Occult Service (complete with obstructive bureaucracy and scrabbling over every last scrap of funding)?

Well-resourced organization established in the 1950s after the Cold War started thank to the Roswell UFO incident where the American government had actually caught some Grey Aliens. This was later complicated when friendly aliens met with the UN Security Council identified themselves as members of an intergalactic space police agency warned them that there are other species out there that may not entirely come in peace and offered some of their alien technology to help them protect the planet.

While the United Nations provided funding and manpower to the Agency, it changed over the years and became independent when the group's leadership learned that factions from the West and East tried to undermine it so that its resources can be used against the other. In that era, the leadership at the time went to take on high-profile and non-paranormal cases (at first) in places where the government cannot go in legally or at a dead end such as protecting refugees or conducting black ops in another part of the world. But in the 21st century, the Agency is still willing to help out clients (as its original mandate) who have a case that the police cannot solve, both paranormal and non-paranormal. Though for trivia, the Agency has uncovered criminal/terrorist cases where the bad guys used Scooby Doo Hoaxes to meet their goals.

As for leadership, one person is nominated to be head based on his evaluation as an officer among recommendations from the leaders of other similar agencies in other parts of the galaxy, being under a space law enforcement association. When the story starts, the leadership vacuum is still there since nominations are halfway done.

Idea of that partly came from the Martin Mystery cartoon that has the Center like that since it's well-financed and independent (And they have alien staff on it) and Human Target (clients make contact with the Agency).

  • Name: Laoch “Weird” O'Connell
  • Appearance: Weird is a tall, slender young man, he often wears a denim jacket over a white wife beater along with camo pants and boots, his hair is brown but it's usually dyed a variety of colors, along with having heterochromia where one eye's Green and the other is Brown. His shoulders, upper back and arms are covered with tattoos of fantastical beasts and mystic runes.
  • Origin: Weird's kinda my go-to OC, I've written a few stories involving him on my deviantart but other than that....
  • Background: Weird was a mage growing up in Dublin, however, he has had a history of engaging in crime, hell, part of the reason that he got roped into the Agency was that it was either that, or he got sent to jail...Long story because of that. Now, Weird serves as a combat mage, and occasional exorcist.
  • Specialty: Combat Mage/Excorcist
  • Equipment: Weird has numerous tattoos, some of which serve as protective runes which he uses to cast low level skills, (I.E bulletproof shield spells, Fireballs, and lock picking) He also enjoys firepower, so he often carries around a Colt M1911, He also has a collection of exorcism equipment and an AR-15 rifle in his trunk.

Dang. Makes a good character, but you did say he's an OC...

I'm pretty much heading to the no part.

BTW - Is there a link to the stories on the Deviantart?

So I'm hearing somewhat XCOM-ish, minus all the guns and fancy hardware. "Multinational" does mean potential fun with funding issues and "guys, go to Egypt, they're threatening to pull their funding unless we catch that ghost somewhere around the Great Pyramid".

Well...hmmm. If the Agency is willing to work with "external assets" as it were (read: contractors), I might have a few ideas. It's the whole "established characters only" thing that has me stopped dead in the water. Do we have leeway to write OCs that are clearly part of some established 'verse or another, yet not an established character?

(To use an example to illustrate: let's say the requirement was "Jedi Knight". There are only a relatively small number of named Jedi, but the powerset is extensive enough for it to be recognizable. In which case, would there be permission to play an OC Jedi because we're not comfortable playing Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon Jinn? This is only an analogy: I have no intention of actually playing a Jedi, if only because the logistical requirements for "how we got to Earth" would be absurd. But you get the idea.)

Yes, OC stands in as part of a franchise/series can work, provided that there is some basis for it.

Also, contractors can work. Depends on what you got.

As usual, the Agency is going to have a Badass Normal in a world where it deals with paranormal and not-so paranormal events:

  • Name: Senior Inspector Chin Hon-to
  • Appearance: Headshot of Joe Ma, the actor who plays him
  • Origin: Tiger Cubs
  • Background: Chin Hon-to has served in the Hong Kong Police Force for years, serving in the former Royal Hong Kong Police Force as a uniformed officer before he advanced up the ranks where he was recruited into the Special Duties Unit years after the 1998 handover. Making the rank of Senior Inspector, Chin was able to get to a leadership position that he was able to command SDU's Alpha Team. While he was able to meet with a young woman named Ting Wai-wai, who was a stewardess, they grew apart due to their lack of time from seeing each other and to the former's working commitment to the SDU, which requires his presence. A few months after the attempted hijacking of a cruise ship, the Senior Inspector decided to leave the unit and take a post with the Agency after being recommended by one of his old peers.
  • Specialty: CQB (Including unarmed and small arms combat)
  • Equipment: On an official Agency mission, he's equipped with a Heckler & Koch G36K with a ZF 3x4° dual optical sight and a Glock 21 on a drop-leg holster. Other equipment/clothing needed depends on mission requirements. Otherwise, he uses the latter only on an unsanctioned mission.
  • Comments: He is based on Chin Hon-to post-season 1 of Tiger Cubs, but not in a relationship due to RL stuff since the actress playing his love interest isn't coming for the second season.

  • Name: Nyarue
  • Appearance: Nearly any species, unless she stresses out, then it's back to her original form: a wiggly mass of tentacles. Appears similar to her cousin Nyarko when visiting her in Japan.
  • Origin: Remember my Love(craft-sensei)
  • Background: Wound up impersonating an existing agent on a drunken dare. Did his job better than than him as a replacement so well that even his partner preferred to ignore her numerous glamour failures, rather than deal with Agent Riffelson's general incompetence. In time everyone learned she was an alien imposter, but also preferred someone competent, even the uncle who got his nephew into the Agency initially. It was only after the original Riffelson handed over his resignation that the Agency was forced to take action and Nyarue was re-hired almost immediately.
  • Specialty: Space CQB, hers is comprised of athletic talent, shape-shifting, & telekinesis.
  • Equipment: ARI Glasses (traded for Space Drugs), a metal Spaceball bat & memory eraser (not standard issue), and a worn-out second-hand Space Probe made by Space Whales, used to tour about the Solar system (not under warranty).
  • Comments: Is an Alien Speaking English for whatever reason is easiest to Hand Wave. Like other Nyarlathotepians, she has a weakness to forks with 3 or more prongs.

Spoiler alerts for The Dresden Files.

  • Name: Harry Blackfield Copperstone Dresden
  • Appearance: Harry is an extremely tall man, standing about 6,9. He's well built. He usually wears boots, jeans and various nerdy T-shirts. He has a preference for his long black duster.
  • Origin: The Dresden Files
  • Background: A P.I in chicago and the city's previous Warden, Harry made a living dealing with the seedy magical undergrowth, until after an incident involving the destruction of a vampire court, Harry re-appeared as the Winter Knight. Now, Harry has been ordered to work at the agency, something he sees as going back to his roots of helping people.
  • Specialty: Combat Wizard/ Heavy Artillery
  • Equipment: Harry wields a Staff and a rod, which are used for defensive and offensive skills respectively. His duster is enchanted to resitant to military grade firearms, fire itself, and to a lesser degree, magic proof. He wears a shield bracelet which allows him to summon a magical forcefield, though strong attacks have a tendency to drain his energy, He wears three rings on his left hand which absorb the force that he generates moving his arm around and can release it as a blast of pure force. He also has a ziploc bag full of chalk, and a .44 Magnum revolver.
