Among others:

UHF, Blazing Saddles, Airplane! - Three of the funniest films I've ever seen.

Forbidden Zone - One of the few truly surrealist films I love. Plus, Danny Elfman as Satan singing "Minnie the Moocher." What's not to like?

Sleeper - Woody Allen's best film, with a great Dixieland jazz soundtrack.

Shinbone Alley - A film that I'm surprised has no page; a wonderful, underrated little musical with a great sequence homaging the work of comic strip genius George Herriman.

The Love God? - Don Knotts' best film, in which he unwittingly gets swept into the Sexual Revolution.

Ghost World - An all-around genius movie, with a great performance from Steve Buscemi. The director, Terry Zwigoff, also did the great documentaries Louie Bluie and Crumb.

And I could go on...

Some of my favorite live action ones:

  • Forrest Gump. I think it helped that mom watched it with me after it came out on VHS, and explained all the pop culture references to me.

  • O Brother, Where Art Thou?: It's quirky and funny, and the soundtrack is amazing. (Except that "In the Highways, In the Hedges" song.)

  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit: Childhood favorite, and it only got better once I grew up and picked up on the more "adult" references.

  • Terminator 2: Judgment Day: The film that finally made me give a rat's ass about action movies.

  • Walk the Line: I'm a big Johnny Cash fan.

  • Airplane!: Agreed, it's hilarious start to finish.

Animated:

  • Both of the How to Train Your Dragon films: The films that finally made me give a rat's ass about dragons.

  • Both of the Kung Fu Panda films: You know, when DreamWorks gets this sequel thing right, they get it right.

  • Frozen: I like being able to avoid hype and just enjoy something for what it is.

  • Rango: An already-good movie escalated by some great visuals.

  • The Lego Movie: Everything is awesome. The movie is just a ton of fun and extremely creative.

  • The Emperor's New Groove: I love how silly and lampshade-heavy it is.

There are a ton of animated movies I haven't seen in years, or have been meaning to see but never have, so the latter list will surely grow.
