Why doesn't 4chan get a separate page?

The other option would be to soley discuss 4chan as a work, and not as a group of individuals. Instead of focusing on who uses 4chan, and how they act, you focus on what is ON 4chan, what has happened on the site and relating to the site, and so on.
Honestly, I feel like this is how it's supposed to be done for pages on websites anyway, at least from my observations and from what I've seen in official discussions about this kind of thing.

The best way I could think of how it could be done is for someone to write up a draft for an article on the site, have it be approved/edited if disapproved, and then lock the page after launching it.

I might be feeling optimistic, but if a page is created I think it should be allowed some time to grow on its own like any other page, and locked down if Edit War becomes a problem.

We have had problems with pages like it (e.g. Encyclopedia Dramatica) in the past, so there is precedent for this at the very least.

I don't think 4chan even does "raids" anymore.

We describe works because they contain examples of tropes, not because they are works. Is there some collection of tropes employed by 4chan? How would we cite them, if they are deleted every day?

[up] Memetic Mutation, Catchphrase, and Running Gag are the first three that come to mind...I'm sure those more familiar with the boards can offer more.

I'm not entirely familiar with the site myself, but I'm sure there's plenty that we could squeeze out of it.

For the argument on creative content created by 4chan: wouldn't it be better to just catalogue actual works produced by the site? See Ruby Quest.

The page on the site as a whole would be a mess due to how portions of the site widely vary. Outside impression of the site as a whole is negative, so we can't base it on that. A page that is only a catalogue of jokes, which are going to become forgotten also seems pointless.

Well, if someone wants to start a sandbox page and see how many tropes they can collect, it would be a good start for a page. Once it's got enough tropes and has been vetted and approved, the sandbox can be launched to 4chan and cutlisted.

It could exist as a sort of creator page and link to the various works that are spawned from it.

I think you list general tropes on the page too, ones that apply to specific boards, like the Tumblr page or the Reddit page.

Bumping this, since I went ahead and made a Sandbox.Four Chan page in case there is interest in having a creator-type page for it.

[up] That's a good, concise, neutral page...I like it. Adding the list of sub-boards in a folder in the description would be a good idea, and it would definitely need to be locked to prevent it from getting out of control, but I think it's a move in the right direction. [tup]

I've added an image and a folder with the sub-boards from the current Image Boards, although I did cauterize it fairly aggressively. And to be fair, I am somewhat sceptical on the need for a long list of all the boards.

I went through the wiki earlier for tropes, but most of them were very fairly context-poor.

[up] The boards list looks good. I made some more tweaks to it, and there's some stuff that needs to be namespaced. Also, the logo pic is really good but could stand to have some of the dead space around it cropped off.

Strangely, I cannot find the source of the image anymore...

Anyhow, is there interest in having a trope list? I am sceptical myself but given that tropes is what this site is about...

If any are there to be listed, go for it.

Added a few tropes, trying to stick to specific examples. Some more cleaning may be appropriate, though.

Any other commentary on the sandbox?

Just tagged two trope items that were being marked as YMMV as "invoked", since from their example writeups it seems they happen In-Universe.

Any other opinions on the sandbox?

I got some more agreement from other threads, so yesterday I launched the sandbox proposal and asked for a page lock on the new page (since consensus was trending in that direction).

Methinks this topic is done and can be closed.
