For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.
For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.
We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Not sure if I can make it tonight. Not only do I have family up from Seattle, but we're seeing one of Penn And Teller's shows, as they're in town today. I'll try for this weekend though.

) and a close to our Cannon Group/Sho Kosugi retrospective.
And speaking of Kung Fury, I was surprised to discover that, despite hitting and surpassing so many stretch goals, this project remained a 1/2 hour short film (I could've sworn I heard that this would be stretched to a feature length). Really disappointed, as that means it's just gonna get relegated to a pre-show spot now.

Its main claim to fame is that the creators Shown Their Work. The backgrounds are accurate to Chicago at the time it's set and all the guns and cars were accurately modelled (they even went to the effort to record the gunshot and engine sounds from the real thing) amongst other things.

I feel your pain; I have a shift on Sundays (luckily it's in the afternoon/evening, so I can still watch tonight).
Alright, we got a big, BIG night tonight, and we're getting an early start just to squeeze it all in.
First up, we inch ever so closer to the end of the final series of Bad Influence. Then, at 7:30 PM (EDT) we start the long-awaited Kung Fury and see what all the fuss is about.
Then, to top it all off at the beginning of the coming hour, we check out the English-dubbed anime police story Gunsmith Cats.
And Prince Simon, Son of the Emperor of the First Circle of the Universe, is here to lift our spirits even higher just for this special evening.

Kung Fury is just about everything you would expect it to be. Was hoping it to be longer, but the half-hour timeframe leaves not a single dull or wasted moment and leaves everyone craving for more. The 30-minute length also gives it the feel of more of a TV Pilot, opposed to a movie, which leaves an interesting prospect for this to be picked up as an episodic series. The length makes this feel less like an 80's B-movie and more like an 80's cop show that runs on 80's cartoon logic.
And Gunsmith Cats was just about what you'd expect from low-budget anime with English dubbing. Whoever said before that this production "showed their work" on the guns and firearms incorporated into the story wasn't exaggerating—the guns were better detailed and drawn than many of the characters.
Anyway, tonight we got the interesting prospect of an Australian movie based on a novel... That's seemingly based almost note-for-note on the 80's Brat Pack action movie Red Dawn.
I suppose, instead of the "Wolverines", our Australian teens-turned-Freedom Fighters will be the "Kookaburras".

It's Kung Fu Friday tonight, as well as our 3rd of 4 weeks of Cannon Group/Sho Kosugi ninja madness: Ninja III: The Domination.
Btw, none of the stories between this, Revenge of the Ninja, and Enter the Ninja are related, and Sho Kosugi is playing a completely different ninja character in each movie.
Tonight's film, in particular, though is really insane, as it involves Special K from the 'Breakin' movies
being possessed by the spirit of an evil ninja seeking to exact vengeance against those who killed him from beyond the grave. Only Sho Kosugi and an exorcist can stop her.
