Badass tropes - now on: Action Girl

As far as I know you do not use fanspeak terms, using things like Baka or Dojikko just get removed via edits. The latter is baffling considering it's an entire unique character type.

I would think we would do it collectively as an index for stuff like Badass Adorable and Action Dad. Those tropes don't need work aside from maybe a rename to remove badass from the name.

If we can collect a list of those tropes, and collect them, that can probably be done quickly, too, then. Good idea.

That being said, then...

Votes on:

1. Moving Sandbox.Badass Trope List to a Main/ namespace (for the primary purpose of not linking a Sandbox page on Main.Badass, potentially with a commented out note that it is part of an ongoing project, and it will be worked on)
2. Creating an index of Unlikely Fighter tropes for the Badass X examples where 'X' is typically not 'badass', with what may be a small re-naming and description editing effort
3. To create individual threads for the redefinition, renaming, and wick clean-up for Badass tropes with more than just a little bit of work to be done (e.g. Badass Gay) so that we don't lose track

I'm liking that. It's more organized that way.

IIRC the character type represented by the term "Dojikko" is now Cute Clumsy Girl.

That only covers the clutzy part, the trope is completely devoid of everything else that goes along with the character stereotype.

Anyway I am fine with returning to Badass Princess since well I am the one who brought it up.

The idea I had would be wrap Warrior Princess and Warrior Prince into one trope about princes and princess who fight in the army and such as its their future country they wish to defend it. Directly opposed to Rebellious Princess and Rebellious Prince acting in defiance to the kingdom. With a Commander King trope for those kings who are also the commander/general of the army and act as such leading troops to battle.

The non-warrior princess and such would be wrapped into Tomboy Princess or a potential trope of Plucky Princess for those who will fight when push comes to shove but do not operate with the military, also would count those Plucky The Ojou's as well.

All in contrast to Princess Classic and Damsel in Distress.

The sandbox needs to be disposed of first.

Well the sandbox is just a list of tropes that need to be taken care of. There shouldn't be a single thing on it by the time we are done renaming and redefining the tropes and pointing all the tropes at their appropriate indexes.

They mostly fall under

• Unexpected Fighter
• Cool Piece of Clothing
• Saying something cool
• Person in a fighting profession or background
• Cool Action

All of those would be an index to themselves or just plain cut for being PSOC.

After a little thought, I like the process for Badass Princess.

Anyway those should all be different unique indexes or supertropes and chopped off the sandbox to the point it should be blank.

But Septimus has a point. This is going to take some time, and the main page shouldn't point to a Sandbox.

For simple purposes, I propose that we create the temporary index Main.List Of Badass Tropes — copy the text over, discard the Sandbox, change the link on Badass, and include notes on the page itself regarding its status. When it is then clear, it can be cut.

Of course, given the nature of the Badass page, I personally think it would be appropriate to have an index of all the tropes which would be "badasses" (i.e. all of the appropriate tropes to use instead of adding Badass to pages), and this could be that index (probably better called This Index Is A Badass or something).

~Septimus Heap would you be able to open the Main page List of Badass Tropes, or would it need to go through YKTTW?

So, until we rename, re-define, and sort out everything, let the current sanbox be a temporary main page, then edit or get rid of it after we're finished?

Yes. It would include a commented-out message like "This is a dynamic list as part of an ongoing Badass trope related clean-up project. It is to be used for reference, and is likely to change. Please do not alter trope names or definitions on the list outside the scope of these efforts."

Let's get rid of those inbounds first. Then go back to the discussion of Badass Princess.

I've also drafted something for Badass Gay (or, maybe Gay Strength as a title suggestion) from the TLP and the discussion earlier in this thread. I wouldn't say it's complete, and I'll take suggestions.

I like "Gay Strength" as a title. I read it and I think it can mean means kinds of strength (physical, mental, emotional, etc.) and so it will be applicable to multiple genres.

Gay Strength is cool.

If some take umbrage towards it, consider LGBT Strength or Unseen Strength. But I think "Gay Strength" is best

I shall note however that princesses are not usually considered to be action characters, the Princess Classic certainly is not.

Yeah, I'm fine with this one. I'm not seeing the same pattern of misuse that a lot of these tropes have. Possibly because we have a decent variety of related tropes clearly linked. And a better-than-usual description.

So a rename or to implement the plan set out by Memers further up the page?
