No, but I've gotten interested in it. I'll watch it once I get the time.

... How many episodes do I have to watch in order to complete the entire franchise (sans movies)? Pretty Cure's article image tells me that there's a lot of main-character Pretty Cures. A very intimidatingly large number of them, to be honest. ^^;

There are something line nike series/seasons each with about 50 episodes. Though the ninetho one only has 10 episodes so far.

There are 50 episodes a season. 9 seasons (although 3 seasons are not fully subbed yet... 2 are almost finished *

but one is only subbed to episode 8 *.) and the most current series * is only 10 episodes.

So that is 410 episodes total (with about 50 unsubbed currently.)

But IMO you dont need to watch them all if you dont want to. Pick one of them and watch it and if you like it move on. There are only 2 direct sequel series everything else is reboot alternate continuities (like Digimon or Super Sentai)

Personal recommendations would be

with a suggestion of getting current on Smile (only on episode 10) and watch one of the other two at your leisure.

Each season has 1 movie, (and 4 crossover movies)

I would also like to suggest Suite Precure. I know most fans don't like it but you should at least check it out yourself.

F-f-f-four HUNDRED?!! That's around four dozen episodes longer than the Bleach anime (starting in 2004) and twice as long as the ongoing Naruto anime (starting from 1999)!!! Gah, I'm in for a the grand marathon of all Archive Binge marathons.

Believe me, once you catch on Pretty Cure, those mainstream shit will feel like tasteless sushi. Just pick the fifties of which is best for you. I personally recommend original seasons (original and Max Heart), Heartcatch and the one right now. They're all subbed I think

2004 with one episode a week for going on 9 years with no break. Its just like other Toei shows like Digimon and such they do 50 episode seasons then its on to the next (done by a different team, director and such.)

Each continuity is quite different.

The First series was done by the animation director of DBZ(which is the reason for the action of it... which is reduced a lot in later seasons with the exception of Heartcatch), very meta and more than willing to Lampshade things that they play straight in a Genre Aware kind of way, but the animation can be very off-model at times.... which shows as it was suppose to be only 25 episodes but a hit so extended to 50 then later 2 seasons for 100.

Splash Star takes a lighter and softer approach to the action but by the end the tone is extremely dark.

Yes Pretty Cure 5, Sailor Moon influences abound.

Fresh Precure: takes Slice of Life elements and runs with it with great characters (and a Mentor Mascot with an Osakan Accent for some reason...).

Heartcatch pretty much distills all the best elements of earlier ones adds some Sentai and Nanoha influences (adds twists and darker.) and makes the side characters and bad guys into something that comes off as extremely savvy about other genres and Periphery Demographic .... into Awesome with awesome animation, the only draw back is it starts off a little slow but it helps people adjust to it and the build up is awesome.

Suite Precure: returns to splash star level action and everything has a Music motif... the first 2/3s of the series is pretty good but falls off on the end.

Smile Precure: Comedy Comedy Lampshade Comedy, seriously the action isnt super but my god its funny as hell. (made by the same animation team as Heartcatch so the animation is very pretty.)

[up] Same recs as me... evil grin

Speaking of pretty animation and comedy.... they normally go for broke in Transformation Sequence s then reuse it, but man they really went all out with Cure Candy and while might be the funniest thing ever in Precure but it was only a one time thing... man they spent some bucks on it.

(marq dont watch this till you watch Smile.)

"Dazzling Sun! Hot-Blooded Power! Cure Sunny!"
"Sparkling and Glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon! Cure Peace!"
"Laying down the gauntlet, with courage blazing! Cure March!"

Probably not a good idea as different sub groups translate things differently and so you are likely to confuse people if you use any specific group's translations to quote from.

Because they are mainstream OBVIOUSLY means they are automatically bad or worse than something obscure, right?

On another note, given the Loads And Loads Of Characters, can someone please have Characters.Pretty Cure include hottipped lists of which set of Pretty Cures are in which character page? It would save people who never watched the series the trouble for finding the character profile for a specific Pretty Cure that they've heard about but don't know/remember which series they're from. Characters.X-Men and Characters.Mahou Sensei Negima do something similar.

That was amazing. I remember that.

Also I ditto most of the recommendations for the series you should watch. I'd throw in Fresh but it's not fully subbed. Anyways I might remember to post a post later about the episode today for Smile. Let's go, shrinking mallet!

Notes for this episode.
This the 400th episode exactly of Precure
The way the Majorina loses her trinket. RAGE QUIT from Akaoni
Nao and Akane seem to be afraid of heights
Nao herself is obviously scared of bugs
Gotta say, I LOVE Akane's transformation. It's my favorite out of all of them so much
The total time for the transformation is around 2 minutes
The team lampshades the Akanbe hilariously
It's no brainer who gets the finisher this time right?
Also the upgrade has been linked with a better quality scan [1]
The decor this time is... lipstick? What.
And Candy can apparently talk to animals or at least bugs
And Nao's still kind of scared of bugs. Oh well, maybe next time
And the next episode... IS THE UPGRADE. GOD THAT WAS FAST

FINALLY got the spoilers down. Sorry for double post by the way...
