I still watch the mainstream wrestling shows, but I definitely prefer indy wrestling nowadays. I was a big fan of Gateway Championship Wrestling several years ago, but now there are several groups in the St. Louis area that put on solid shows. I can go to an indy show(or two) practically every weekend of the year. I'm getting a bit too old and "responsible" for online wrestling debates and I just "let it be" most of the time...heh.

Many of the wrestlers who wrestled for Gateway will always have a special spot in heart, even though I haven't seen most of them in years. I'm pretty lucky to not be too far away from the Berwyn Eagles Club, so I can see All American Wrestling and SHIMMER shows sometimes. I've gone as far as Detroit and Dear borne Michigan to see indy shows before.

So, I recently decided La Amapola is the best wrestler of 2014 but the fans of Maritime Wrestling & Sports have been calling her rival Sarah Stock, the best since nearly the start of the year. This match is more technical than the other woman's match I posted, but not quite as technical as the very last match I posted, as Skylar Rose is letting the frustration of her loses to "Sarita" show.

A few of the Gateway wrestlers still work around these parts, though they're spread out across the different groups. Dynamo Pro is as close to a spiritual successor to GCW as there is, as the people who run that promotion used to work behind the scenes for Gateway. There's also St. Louis Anarchy, SICW, MMWA, and a few other newer groups in this neck of the woods...plus Harley Race's WLW moved its training facility to Troy, Missouri, so they're closer to the STL area nowadays.

I went to see an indy show (NWA-Bayou was the promotion if anyones wondering) last Saturday. It was a pretty fun show, even though i wasnt familiar with any of the wrestlers. Heres the results (anyone hear of these guys?):

Frankie Thomas defeated Ashton Jacobs

Vordell Walker defeated Jeremiah in a non title match up instigated by the leader of the legion Gregory James

Apocalypse beat Rapheal King w Deyvin Nicole

Jessica James beat Deyvin Nicole

Tim Storm & Steve Anthony defeated John Saxon & Barrett Brown

Gregory James beat Vordell Walker by DQ

I can definitely see Saxon, Brown, Walker, James, and even Jeremiah being big stars in the future (if not for WWE, then at least ROH or maybe even Global Force if that ever gets off the ground), as they all showed lots of charisma and talent.

Have frequented this website for a while and was wondering who else was posting about GCW besides me...heh. I could probably be identified as "Wayne's World Hat Guy", for reference.

SICW has had several old-school guest appearances this year: Jim Cornette, Ted Di Biase, Ox Baker(RIP), Paul Orndorff, Koko B. Ware, and One Man Gang. They've got Marty Jannetty scheduled for the show this coming weekend. Bobby Eaton has made a few appearances at local shows as well.

I know Raphael King, think he got his start around the STL area...good guy, talented guy. Devyn Nicole was briefly Women's Champion for Harley Race's WLW promotion earlier this year.

I recall Jessica James from some shows around my area but I've only recently learned about Devyn Nicole, not too familiar with her work. I know a few Jeremiahs, the first that comes to mind is a guy wrestling in Beyond, about 240 lbs and uses a Gord Buster. Vordell Walker I'm somewhat familiar with. I know two apocalypses, one who wrestled in Ultimate Pro Wrestling and Fighting Opera Hustle, haven't seen that Apocalypse in a while, and another who wrestled in World 1 and Ring Of Honor. If I'm not mistaken it can't be him though because he's been working in NXT as "Rick Victor", and WWE hasn't had a developmental company that openly works with anyone besides WWE since Ohio Valley Wrestling.

I may or may not know of the others but their names aren't making me recall anything at the moment, so I'm just going to say no. Since you've watched some NWA Bayou though, feel free to update the NWA page with any tropes you may have seen.

You might also consider plugging the names into Cagematch.net and seeing if any of them come up with what looks like then wrestler you saw. :) Helps disambiguate and it tells you where else they wrestled.

Well, in case you didn't know, the World Wrestling Network promotions have been in China this month and Rich Swann is your new Full Impact Pro Heavyweight Champion (guess it's the world championship now that it has been defended...lost...overseas)

In case you didn't know, the TNA is no longer on television, and will be ceasing all further taping until January 2015, when they claim their new broadcast deal comes into effect. Since their website still says Wednesday on Spike, even thought they are no longer on, I'm going to assume their new deal is reorganization of things with Spike TV(optimistically), or they don't actually have one(pessimistically).

Gail Kim is on hew way out, so Madison Rayne becoming queen of the knockouts makes sense. Rayne beat Jessicka Havok on her way to it, apparently that pay per view was filmed back in March but is just now being shown in November? I don't understand how TNA keeps(kept?) these dates in line. I'd say Gail's loss is Mia Yim, Reby Sky and Marti Belle's gain but time will tell. A schism has come between MVP and Bobby Lashley since Bobby Roode is their champ so that's one alliance that won't carry over should TNA end up in the grave.

If TNA becomes an indy I still might ignore them for FIP, EVOLVE and SHINE. Also, if Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling ever gets off the ground, it could be bad news for Ring of Honor, who are liable to be ditched by New Japan Pro-Wrestling if GFW really does get a national TV deal. New Japan and Styles had to be burned by TNA before they stuck with an indy fed like ROH, as Decade has been reminding us all year. Maybe Jarrett won't cut ROH out, but that's exactly what he did with TNA last time. Another national promotion, or at least another wrestling program on National TV, should at least act as a scab for whatever wounds TNA might leave behind in its uncertain future but ROH may take a(nother) hit before things get better. Then again, it's a hit I'm sure ROH can roll with and it will also be to New Japan's gain. This GFW and TNA stuff is mostly speculation, mind you. The WWN being on the rise, that's real.(Ivelisse is defending her belt tonight against Yim)

Lot of good indy wrestling in my area in the next few weeks. Jim Cornette will be appearing at a show on December 13th. St. Louis Anarchy on Dec. 5th has ACH-Kyle O'Reilly, Elgin-Jojo Bravo, and Gary Jay-Davey Vega. High Risk Wrestling on Dec. 28th has an absolutely stacked card with ACH-Ricochet, reDRagon-Colony, Elgin-Uhaa Nation, and Jigsaw-Chuck Taylor. On a more local level, Dynamo on Dec. 6th has the champion Ricky Cruz defending against one of the most impressive rookies in the area, Mike Outlaw.

Silver Ant now right? Well, enjoy it...

Wow, Ricochet lost the Open The Freedom Gate title to Johnny Gargano, Mia Yim is the SHINE Champion. Wasn't this year in China definitely wasn't the tour to be holding a title belt, unless you were Caleb Konley and even then, his partner lost a belt. Should Drew Galloway count himself lucky?

Well, the PWI 500 and 50 rolled in. Sort of surprisingly, sort of not, Bryan Danielson...ahem, Daniel Bryan is on the top. Kazuchika Okada and AJ Styles were in the top ten but I expected them to be between one and three. Well, the wrestler of the year award has yet to be handed out so I suppose they are being saved for that, assuming Hiroshi Tanahashi doesn't take it. Bryan's definite had a lasting presence in wrestling but his injury will probably prevent him from taking both.

I was surprised by Paige being at the top of the 50 but probably shouldn't have been, other people had been calling it. Good for her but I expect the running for wrestler of the year to really be switched around for everyone except Cheerleader Melissa. (expect to see Jessicka Havok and Nicole Matthews higher up... my personal pick wasn't in the 50 and so probably won't be near anything else either. Better luck next year CMLL/Reina!).

I fully expect reDRagon to take tag team of the year by a landslide now that they have IWGP Gold across their waists. Maybe we'll get a PWA 5 for tag teams next year so they can win that too? Let's have them dethrone the Premier Athlete Brand while we're at it!

Good lord the WWE Tag Team 'division' is deplorable.

We have the Usos, Gold-Star, Harper & Rowan (occasionally) and Ryb Axel (but nobody cares about Ryb Axel).

There was apparently something involving Big E and Xavier and possibly Kofi, but that went nowhere.

Prime Time Players, Tons of Funk, 3MB, Los Matadores, R-Truth and Xavier Woods, and World's Largest Tag Team have all been split up, and for what?

They might as well just end the Tag Team division and its titles and be done with it. Cos WWE obviously doesn't actually care about tag teams.

Unless I'm actually wrong about all this.

Out: Wyatt Family("set free" by Bray and now on opposite sides at Survivor Series), Rybaxel(Ryback turned face and had an amicable split with Axel in a backstage segment on Superstars of all shows).

In: The Miz and Damien Mizdow.

Looks like Big E/Kofi/Woods will be teamed up, albeit in a different gimmick.

Just seems like we're waiting for the Ascension's official callup, though I'd rather see any number of other NXT duos like the Vaudevillains, Lucha Dragons, Enzo/Cass, etc.

Ring of Honor has been pulling talents for almost a year now haven't they. I get that their contracts grant them priority booking but it seems like they've been doing so to a much higher degree than usual. Is something up? I was going to make some joke about needing to pay Jim Cornette to stay away from wrestling but I almost wish he was still in the company, just so he could fill us in on exactly what is going on with them...not that he ever did that when he was in Ring Of Honor, which is why I typed almost but it'd be nice if someone just ran down the company's state and why they are doing what they are doing.

To me they're starting to act like TNA, what with them apparently barring talent from working for FWE, and I'd like to think there was a good reason for it. Cornette eventually let us know why the Young Bucks weren't getting used or Adam Pearce was gone for so long.

You know, if not for their various injuries and other...issues, the perfect Anti-Authority Survivor Series team would be

  • Roman Reigns
  • CM Punk
  • Daniel Bryan
  • Dean Ambrose
  • either Dolph Ziggler or Big Show.

These are all guys who have had actual issues with the Authority. John Cena, other than his generic Big Good persona causing him to oppose the Authority, what issues does he have with them? They haven't screwed him over/humiliated/beat the crap out of him like the others I've mentioned (or at least not to the degree the others have been), so it doesn't feel as...personal. Orton, despite his Face turn, it still seems weird for me, considering he's been firmly with the Authority until just recently

It seems kind of weird, if not borderline awkward for Rusev, whose whole gimmick is anti-American, to currently be just a regular lackey member on a team composed mostly of Americans.

And how will the Survivor Series match affect Rusev's storyline, assuming his team loses?

Also, please tell me Rusev didn't squash Sheamus for the US Title.

And the stakes/incentive for Rusev's anti-American storyline increase as not only must whichever American Representatives decide to step up try and put an end to Rusev's reign of terror, but they must try to reclaim the US Title from him in the process.

Tag teams? Well remember, WWE apparently had nothing for the American Wolves. Now I know most of you don't watch or care about TNA but you really should check out Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards's work there sometime. TNA was well beyond WWE as far as tag teams went. In 2014 anyway. I made the mistake of reading through the full list of Gut check participants on their site...well better late than never, the American Wolves at least got to shine on National television and brighten up a few TNA pay per views.

CM Punk, I doubt it. I can see why one might think he'd fit into the whole conspiracy/authority thing, what with him starting it and all, but I'd rather not be reminded how the second Summer of Punk quickly degenerated into the Autumn of Triple H...And Kevin Nash...And Johnny Ace...And Big Show ripping off Daniel Bryan because burying one world champion wasn't enough.

CM Punk being away from WWE is probably the best thing for them, when putting him in the center of a main event angle leads to that.

It turns out TNA's new deal will be with Discovery Network's Destination America channel. Word is they're going to be doing TV tapings in Michigan around December or January. Supposedly they're also going to show TNA's British Bootcamp show on American TV too. No word yet on what timeslot it will be on though.

Well, their shows have been good, mostly, but watching TNA is starting to feel like a chore for me. I'll admit I haven't kept up with what should have been the last two Impacts (there would have been three, should they have remained on air), was late on their last pay per view and haven't been keeping up with Xplosion at all. I think they just did an "Xplosion" last week.

I've been keeping an eye on at least the bookings of some of their talents though. Bobby Roode going to Maritime is what inspired me to post that Maritime video earlier. (come to think of it, I don't remember seeing Sarah Stock in the PWI fifty either)

So TNA is probably coming back but with Lucha Underground finally on TV and GFW apparently around the corner, I'm not still not sure if I'm going back to Impact next year. I still haven't found out if I even get Lucha Underground's channel, much less TNA's new one. I used someone else's TV to watch them on Spike, cause I don't even get that (and I'd be watching ROH's show if it was available). Well, if all else fails, All American Wrestling's locally broadcast (though I can just go and see them if I really want to)

[up][up]Mine are the opposite, somewhere near the sub-basement. For one, Sting is old, really really old. For another, who exactly does a feud with Triple H help? Not Sting, he can only go about 10 minutes at a time, and most of the audience today doesn't even have a clue who he is. Not Triple H, if he wins, he'll be the guy who beat up another old fossil, and if he loses, he'll be the guy who keeps losing to guys much older than him. Not any of the other babyfaces, it makes them look weak as shit when Sting literally comes out of nowhere to fight the top heel and none of them get so much as a swing at him until April. The ONLY, ONLY way this can help Triple H is if he gets buildable heat for brutally beating Sting and then gloating about it for weeks, that he killed the last great legend of wrestling.
