YMMV / Lizzie McGuire

  • Awesome Music/Ear Worm: The theme song is very catchy.
  • Bizarro Episode: "Those Freaky McGuires" is this, especially for a show that's otherwise grounded in reality most of the time. The end hints that it might be All Just a Dream. Subverted with the Halloween Episode as the supernatural stuff is just a prank.
  • Contractual Purity: Not a straight example, but Lalaine (who played Miranda) was unfortunately caught in 2007 with possession of crystal meth. She got better though, and later had it removed from her record after completing a drug treatment program.
  • Epileptic Trees: There is a theory that is circulating around the Internet that Lizzie is a schizophrenic. It also partially explains why the show starts in middle school, and why Lizzie's friend Miranda disappeared from the show (even though the show states that she went to Mexico with her family). The theory can be read here.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Melina for being a Little Miss Badass and match for Matt's schemes.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Doubles as Actor Shipping. A lot of fans really wanted to see Lizzy stay together with Aaron Carter, who was briefly in a relationship with Hilary Duff at the time he guest starred. Aaron himself seconded this.
  • Foe Yay: Some would argue, Kate and Lizzie.
  • "Funny Aneurysm" Moment: Gordo tells Lizzie that Larry is "Marilyn Manson to your Britney Spears". "Britney Spears" was synonymous with "wholesome" back then. And this was before Manson's famous interview in Bowling for Columbine was as well known as it is now.
  • Genius Bonus: The names Isabella and Elizabeth (Lizzie's full first name) from the movie are in fact the same name; Isabella is the Romance variation and Elizabeth is the Germanic variation.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In the episode where Gordo gets to go to high school and the girls miss him, Miranda reassures Lizzie "I'm not going anywhere". Lalaine rather infamously disappeared from the show before the finale, Miranda to never be seen again.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: The episode that deals with Kate and Lizzie rediscovering their friendship when they have to work on a class project together. As of the events of the movie, Lizzie and Kate put aside their differences seemingly for good - and Kate is the one to help Lizzie make a love connection with Gordo.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Ethan mentioned in one episode he'll take up water polo. Years later in real life, Clayton Snyder (his actor) ends up being part of the US water polo team.
    • The Reveal and methods of the Big Bad in The Movie are quite similar to similar events in Frozen.
    • Miranda's suspiciously long bus trip with the knowledge that Lalaine was starring in Buffy the Vampire Slayer around the same time training as a Potential.
  • Narm: Lizzie's nightmare where she frets about the guys thinking she's not feminine enough. Has to be one of the laziest nightmare scenes ever made, especially Kate's laughing.
  • Periphery Demographic: Not all of Lizzie's (or Hilary's) fans were/are girls. The fact that Miranda, Kate, Claire, Parker and numerous other girls were quite pretty probably helped too.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Sara Paxton in the episode "Election" as the resigning class president, always saying "really" as she announces the winner.
