Let's do a little trolling.
The Blueballs Incident (also called The Trollge Files) is a Friday Night Funkin' mod created by Malicious Bunny and EZHALT. The mod takes heavy influences from the Trollge memes/incidents, a revival of the Trollface meme to turn it into a horrifying eldritch being.

Your opponent this time is an unnamed "Troll individual", who seems to have gone into a depression due to doing... something to someone. Now he just wants to be left alone, but Boyfriend is as rap-happy as always, and quickly causes things to escalate beyond the point of insanity. Describing any further would reach spoiler territory, however, so it's best played before you continue any further.

Malicious Bunny has two videos connected to the mod's lore, showcasing how the Trollges became the way they are. Respectively, these are "The first Trollge incident" and "How to Trollge your best friend"

The mod can be downloaded on GameBanana here.

Has nothing to do with The Blue Shell Incident.

Examples from the mod:

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Boyfriend actually gets hit with this. Going from a singing college dropout in the main game to a singing anomaly-hunting agent!
    • Thanks to his connection to the Trollge memes, Trollface goes from a harmless prankster to a hostile, reality-bending species of monsters that commit various atrocities.
    • Based on the note seen at the start of the mod, Derpina has gone from a fittingly-named fool and occasional victim of Trollge to the head of the Troll Containment Foundation dedicated to containing instances.
  • Adaptation Distillation: Depending on the Writer, the Stairway to Heaven Incident (or Heaven's Stairway incident in this mod) was instigated by either a single Trollge that realized skin is already oily, multiple Trollges that fell to New York and covered the citizens in oil, a slew of anomalous activity that reached a boiling point, or by nothing in particular as it heralds The End of the World as We Know It. Here, the simplest interpretation of a single Trollge pulling the strings is used, but with the added simplification that he simply put the oil-like substance in New York's water supply.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Funnily enough, Smiler is hit with both this and Adaptational Villainy (seen below), depending on what origin you focus on. In MaliciousBunny's Trollge videos, Smiler remorselessly tortures Derp into "happiness" for the sake of what he sees as a practical joke. In this mod, however, Smiler wasn't in control of himself and deeply regrets what he did.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Boyfriend seems to be this, instigating a rap battle with Smiler despite his wanting to be left alone and driving him to the point of insanity. Once the real plot is revealed at the end, however, this is revealed to not be the case; Boyfriend is an agent for the Troll Containment Foundation sent to recapture a dangerous "Troll individual".
    • This also goes for "Trollface" thanks to the fact that this game takes heavy influences from the "Trollge" incidents. Both of them.
  • After the End: Despite not carrying as much impact as its previous interpretations, the second background in "Pteromerhanophobia" implies that the Stairway to Heaven Incident has emptied New York City, leaving it a barren, oily wasteland.
  • Arc Symbol: In the opening starting up the week, there's a note informing a certain Agent Blueballs (actually Boyfriend) to deal with the troll individual, a red eye over a red cross on the bottom left can be seen, reminiscent of IRIS’ symbol from Vs Hex Mod. It also appears in Pteromerhanophobia, as an image of it drawn in what looks like red chalk on a black background flashes on the occasion, notably ending on it. Exactly what this means for the mod's lore at the moment is a mystery.
  • Art Shift: Boyfriend and Girlfriend's sprites have been redrawn to match the visual style of MaliciousBunny's Trollge videos.
  • Atrocious Alias: Boyfriend's codename as a TCF agent is Agent Blueballs.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Your opponent is based on the famous Trollface meme, but is no less Ax-Crazy than most other modded opponents. Even moreso after The Reveal that he's a creature known as a "Troll individual". Then again, it's not overly surprising thanks to the Trollface's revival through Trollge.
  • Big Applesauce: "Pteromerhanophobia" is set in the ruins of New York City, after the Stairway to Heaven Incident ended all traces of civilization there.
  • The Cameo: In the Cutscene before Athazagoraphobia Pico and Ritz appear as victims of Legions assimilation.
  • Cerebus Retcon: The famous Cover Yourself in Oil comic is referenced in the log entry for "Just a little trolling" as the cause of the Heaven's Stairway incident, where the entity pollutes New York's water system with an oil-like substance to cause its people to float uncontrollably.
  • Civilization Destroyer: Stairway is this, having committed genocide on all of New York in the Stairway to Heaven Incident.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Smiler is deeply remorseful for what he has done, attacked out of pure delusions, ultimately manages to be saved, and keeps both Boyfriend and Girlfriend calm (even if the latter was a bit scared during some parts of "Incident") Stairway is a sadist who caused the Stairway to Heaven Incident For the Evulz, doesn't show any signs of being saved and visibly pissed off Boyfriend and Girlfriend.
  • Damage Over Time: During a segment of "Incident", Smiler begins to warp reality to the point where Boyfriend's healthbar begins very rapidly draining, and if the player doesn't hit the notes during that segment perfectly, it is very likely to cause a game over.
  • Darker and Edgier: The original Trollface is one of the internet's most famous memes, and thus has nothing in terms of plot or meaning. This mod, on the other hand, features a depressed and unsettling version of the character that feels remorse over his Cold-Blooded Torture of Derp, goes insane trying to get Boyfriend to leave him alone, and is actually a downright Humanoid Abomination that escaped from an SCP Foundation-esque area made to contain anomalous "Troll incidents". Even the songs are considerably slower and more somber, with the exception of “Incident”, which ups the pace a little, but is still much more reserved than what most players are familiar with. And we haven't even begun talking about Stairway!
  • Dying as Yourself: Smiler, letting out a genuine smile as he dies in "Redemption".
  • Evil Sounds Deep: The voices of all of the Trollges, both in cutscenes and in gameplay, is made through a pitched-down text-to-speech program that creates a sort of grumbling voice deeper than the Grand Canyon.
  • Eviler than Thou: For all Smiler did, Stairway is a thousand times worse, and Legion is worse still.
  • Expy: The Troll Containment Foundation is one to the SCP Foundation, as it's a similarly-named foundation meant to contain "Troll individuals" with anomalous and deadly properties and behaviors.
  • Fade to White: Happens in the fourth song, Redemption, to signify Smiler's passing.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: Athazagoraphobia in the the story mode is this, where you get a game over regardless if you finish the song or not, forcing you to either constantly battle Legion over and over, or just give up.
    • 大好き however is an inversion in that you can't lose, at all, even missing every note won't give you a game over.
  • Grand Theft Me: What the TP Cells do to people to turn them into Trollge incidents.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: Girlfriend's final song and every single piece of cutscene music aside from Forbidden Dance are all named in Japanese rather than English.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight:
    • No matter how good you play in the first time you play "My Dear Love", your health will steadily drain until you lose, crashing the game.
    • The same happens against Legion in "Athazagoraphobia", even if you manage to complete the song the game treats it as if you lost, with the only way to progress being by giving up and letting Legion win, this also ends up crashing your game.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Smiler looks fairly human-like, but has a skeletal body and disquieting face reminiscent of the famous Trollface. Exaggerated when it comes to Stairway and Smiler's "Incident" form, and up to thirteen when they're revealed to be one of many anomalous "Troll individuals".
  • "I Know You Are in There Somewhere" Fight: "My True Love" is one for Trollge Girlfriend against Boyfriend. While it fails the first time, it definitely does the second time, which causes Legion to undergo a Villainous Breakdown before getting Killed Off for Real.
  • Madness Mantra: Smiler's vocals are sampled from a text-to-speech line saying "I did it" over and over again.
  • Marathon Level:
    • Almost every song in the mod (save for "Sadness", "Rage", "Redemption", and "My Dear Love") is over 3 minutes long, making them each longer than any song in the base game.
    • Due to every song coming one after the other, Freeplay being locked until the story is beaten, and the absence of mid-week checkpoints, the player had best be prepared to spend around an hour on the mod at minimum if they want to beat it.
  • Meaningful Background Event:
    • In the latter half of "Incident", one can see the events of MaliciousBunny's second Trollge video, where Smiler tortures Derp into being "happy". As also seen in the video's ending, this was the "Smiler" incident that the Troll of the same name you're singing against was involved in.
    • During Pteromerhanophobia, you can get a nice view of New York City outside a window as darkness and rain clouds storm over it. Those familiar with Trollge lore will recognize this as the Stairway to Heaven incident, an event that causes an inevitable minor Apocalypse How. And you're fighting the cause.
  • Meaningful Echo: Among Legion's pleas for Boyfriend not to kill him is the phrase "Do not approach!", which is also one of Stairway's lines in an associated lore video just before he kills Derpy out of self-defense.
  • Meaningful Name: All of the antagonists, save for Trallface, have songs named after various phobias.
    • Stairway's is "Pterohermanophobia", or a fear of flying - a fear he likely caused in a number of victims during the Heaven's Stairway Incident.
    • The Happy Clown's is "Paedophobia," or a fear of children. According to his case file, this is an inverted case compared to the other Trollges, as he claims to have been protecting several children from an evil he claims is inherently present in adults. Of course, the children don't exactly agree with this opinion, as whatever JJ had been doing had garnered immense fear in the children.
    • When he's fought again under Legion's control, Smiler's song is "Technophobia", or a fear of new technology. His Trollge form's primary method of murder is through Mind Rape with television screens, and he carries one throughout the entirety of "Technophobia".
    • Exhalted's is "Glossophobia", another term for extreme social anxiety. Fitting for a man that hid away from society post-transformation.
    • Derpy's is "Dystychiphobia", or a fear of accidents. While not much is known about Derpy so far, it is known that he Was Once a Man, so this could be a clue that whatever happened to him wasn't intentional.
    • Even Girlfriend gets in on this, with the song "Thanatophobia", or a fear of death.
    • Legion's is "Athazagoraphobia", or a fear of being forgotten.
    • Humorously, the Tutorial replacement is called "Philophobia", or a fear of love.
  • Mood Whiplash: Happens a lot in "Troll Physics #3333333333", which constantly switches between being a silly instructional video and Stairway's unsettling imagery.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Smiler is deeply regretful of torturing Derp.
    • Stairway was also regretful after killing his own Derp. It lasts only a few seconds.
    • Legion utters the line nearly word-for-word right as he comes face-to-face with a mysterious god-like Trollge.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • While most of the Trollges in the mod are original creations, Stairway is based on the one that started them all, the "Stairway to Heaven" incident.
    • "Troll Physics #3333333333" is based on "Troll Physics", a series of Rage Comics where Trollface uses Insane Troll Logic to create impossible contraptions (and the format later used by most Trollge memes), right down to the Running Gag of using magnets to speed up tasks.
  • Non-Standard Game Over:
    • Dying in any of the first 4 songs results in a cutscene of the voices in Smiler's head demanding he "wake up" and promising a chance to see "her" again.
    • Dying in "Pteromerhanophobia" shows the text "COVER YOURSELF IN OIL", followed by footage of someone flying through a rainy city in first-person.
    • Dying in "Paedophobia" simply shows heavily red-tinted footage of someone walking through a forest.
    • Dying in "Technophobia" results in Boyfriend being subjected to the same fate as Derp, sitting in front of a TV with a Trollge-like grin on his face.
    • Dying in "Glossophobia" has Exhalted give Boyfriend a few motivational words, telling him not to be reckless before asking to go again.
    • Dying in "Dystychiphobia" gives a cutscene detailing Derpy's origin, showing that he was transformed into what he is now in an incident with Stairway.
    • Dying in "Your Mom" has three possible cutscenes, in which Trallface flushes himself down a toilet, floats in space while an extremely loud acapela remix of the 20th Century Fox theme plays in the background, or spinning at slow speed in a T-Pose, accompanied by trippy background visuals.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: The original characters have a sort of uncanny Stick Figure-like design… and then there’s Boyfriend and Girlfriend who look like normal human beings.
  • Not Quite Back to Normal: The epilogue song, 大好き, shows that while Boyfriend and Girlfriend were cured of the Trollge, they have noticeable remnants on their body, from Boyfriend's right arm and hand became black to Girlfriend's change of hair and skin.
  • One-Hit Kill: During the first half of Pteromerhanophobia, a smaller Trollge will appear on the health bar and swing an axe at a certain part of it. If Boyfriend's health is anywhere below where the axe hits, it's an instant blueball.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Boyfriend and Girlfriend have a much more determined look on their face in comparison to their canon Fearless Fool demeanor when they go to engage Stairway in "Pteromerhanophobia." Considering he may or may not be a harbinger of an apocalypse, their newfound grit is fully justified.
    • After Legion turns Girlfriend into a Trollge, Boyfriend outright loses it, gaining a Slasher Smile with his Face Framed in Shadow during the beginning of Thanatophobia. While he does recover after the second round of "My Dear Love", he outright says he hates Legion before killing him with a loud screech.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner
Smiler: Let's do a little trolling.
  • Reluctant Monster: Smiler seems to be genuinely sorry for what they did and just wants to be left alone. He passes on to the afterlife during Redemption, letting out a genuine smile as he fades away.
  • Shout-Out: There are 4 separate entries under File #23 in the TCF files unlocked after beating the story. One of these has the information for Smiler and Legion, while the other three contain files for the antagonists of VS Trollface, The Friday Night Incident, and Friday Night Trolling (the latter of which has yet to be released). It has also been confirmed previously that these mods were canonically connected, making these shout-outs lore-relevant.
  • Slasher Smile:
    • Smiler possesses one when he's begun to fully mutate into Trollge, and from that point until the beginning of the final song it never leaves his face. Even in his lifebar, the only difference when he starts losing ground is that he clenches his teeth.
    • Stairway has one throughout the entirety of "Pteromerhanophobia".
    • Boyfriend during the first half of "Thanatophobia" has one.
  • Was Once a Man: All of the "Troll incidents", including Smiler and Stairway, were humans before being infected by the TP cells.
  • Wham Shot:
    • At the end of Rage, Smiler finally snaps for real, dropping his axe as the music swells before clutching his head as the voices finally take over for "Incident".
    • In the cutscene after "Incident" in the 2.0 update, a photograph shown onscreen reveals that Derpina is Smiler's daughter and went missing after what he had done to Derp.
    • Pteromerhanophobia has its own when, halfway into the song, Boyfriend is somehow transported out into the devastated New York City. After a brief while zoomed in on Boyfriend, the camera zooms out to reveal Stairway flying through the air as the music speeds up.
    • Several abound at the start of "Thanatophobia":
    • After Legion successfully assimilates all of Earth, he meets face-to-face with an uncannily realistic Trollface, assumed by some to be the Trollface from Case #0000.
  • When He Smiles: Smiler lets out a genuine smile, not the Slasher Smile we are used to in "Incident", as he dies in "Redemption".
