    Pontiac Bonneville
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pontiac_bonneville.JPG
"The Pontiac Bonneville’s story, on the other hand, is more circuitous. It started as a top-of-the-line, fuel-injected, convertible-only special edition in 1957, followed by specially-trimmed coupe and convertible models (with fuel injection optional) for ’58. After that, it became the fanciest Pontiac model, no longer limited to two-door hardtop and convertible versions."

The Bonneville is an automobile built by Pontiac from 1957 until 2005. It was initially introduced as a limited production performance convertible, the Pontiac Star Chief Bonneville, during the 1957 model year. The car was known for, with the exception of a brief period between 1982 and 1986 where its seventh generation was mid-size, being full-sized: The Bonneville, and its platform partner, the Grand Ville, are some of the largest Pontiacs ever built; in station wagon body styles they reached just over 230 inches (5.8 m) long, and at aroun 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) were also some of the heaviest cars produced at the time.

The name was taken from the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, a site known for being a hotbed of early auto racing and the place where most of the world's land speed record runs were set, which was named in turn after U.S. Army officer Benjamin Bonneville.

    Pontiac Fiero

And that, kids, is the car to walk (well, drive) 500 miles with, and then drive 500 more. Or maybe just go to space.*

"This is the story of a car so groundbreaking and unconventional that Guy Fieri changed his name in his honor. [...] It's America's only mass produced mid-engined car until. Perhaps the most 80's looking car ever built. And it might have caught on fire one or two times."
James Pumphrey, Donut Media

The Fiero is a rear mid-engine sports car manufactured and marketed by Pontiac from 1984 to 1988.

Intended as an economical commuter car with modest performance aspirations, it was Pontiac's first two-seater since their 1926 to 1938 coupes, and the first rear mid-engine mass-produced car by any American manufacturer.

In addition to using 4- and 6-cylinder engines to comply with American corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards, the Fiero was characterized by its light weight, with its chassis and structure technology using non-load-bearing, composite body-panels, contributing to the car's unique selling proposition. Pontiac engineers modified its design over its lifetime to enhance its performance and reposition the two-seater closer to the implications of its sport configuration.

Its 2M4 (two-seat, mid-engine, four-cylinder) variant was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1984, and was the Official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500 in 1984.

The Fiero would become known for suffering criticisms related to its mild performance, however, as well as reliability and safety issues, resulting in it being discontinued after annual sales fell steadily.

Films — Live-Action
  • The Fiero in general is a popular base car used to make Ferrari or Lamborghini replicas, do to being an inexpensive mid-engine car, and would be used in movies with tight budget caps. Especially as means when it comes to wrecking the car during filming.

  • In Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Jeanie's (Ferris's older sister) car was a Fiero.

Live-Action TV

  • A Fiero was Badger's car in Breaking Bad.
  • One of the Fiero's most famous appearances in media was in How I Met Your Mother, where it was subject of a Running Gag in which Marshall had a Fiero (which definitely had seen better days) that had a cassette tape of The Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" stuck on repeat. It finally "died" after Marshall hit a pothole just before the car reached 200,000 miles, after which Marshall decided to "let the car die with dignity" (after a mechanic said there were no guarantees of it running again). In the DVD commentary of "Arrivederci, Fiero", Marshall's actor Jason Segel noted that the scene of him parallel parking the car was a bit difficult, due to the Fiero's infamous lack of power steering.
Marshall: Arrivederci, Fiero, you were the freaking Giving Tree of cars.
  • In the Young Sheldon episode "Family Dynamics and a Red Fiero", George shows up to a Thanksgiving dinner in the titular red Fiero.

    Pontiac Firebird

Be either a Bandit or a Knight, you just gotta love this car!

Caroline: Uh, whose car is that out front?
Lester: Mine. 1970 Pontiac Firebird. The car I've always wanted, and now I have it. I rule!

The third option of a pony car other then the Mustang or Camaro. ...or maybe fourth if you count the Challenger.

The Pontiac Firebird is a muscle car built and produced in February 1967, merely five months after General Motors's own cousin, the Chevrolet Camaro started production. As a pony car, the Firebird was intended to compete with the Mustang.

In 1970, the Firebird had a major overhaul, replacing the "Coke bottle" styling to a much more swooping fastback design. That version only came in coupe form as convertible versions were not available until 1989. The Firebird is offered in various models such as the Esprit, Formula and the Trans Am.

While the Firebird saw lasting success, especially being widely used in the Trans-Am series for motorsport in The '60s and The '70s, as well as being utilized as the pace car in the 1989 Indy 500, the Firebird ended production on August 2002, implying GM's means of saving money, reducing competition and making room for other manufacturers.

    • Besides the Trans Am that usually depicted K.I.T.T., there were also other variants of Firebird shown in the show. The pilot movie featured a pair of car thieves that tried to get away with K.I.T.T., who happened to drive the original first-gen "Coke bottle" version of the car, and a feature in Season 4 allowed K.I.T.T. to become a convertible, introduced essentially as an excuse to show off the (newly-introduced at the time) convertible version.

    Pontiac Grand Prix
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pontiac_grand_prix.jpg
"It isn't often an auto manufacturer can dominate the new-car market with the introduction of a new model. But Pontiac did just that in 1964 with the GTO and again in 1969 with the redesign of the personal luxury car-the Grand Prix. The fresh styling lasted a few years before another redesign in 1973, which fostered even greater attention for the flagship model."

The Grand Prix is an automobile produced by Pontiac from 1962 to 2008; from 1962 until 2002 for coupés and from 1989 to 2008 for sedans.

First introduced as a full-size performance coupe for the 1962 model year, the model repeatedly varied in size, luxury, and performance during its production, positioning in the personal luxury car market segment and mid-size car offering. The Grand Prix was the most expensive coupé Pontiac offered until The '70s, when the Bonneville and the Firebird Trans Am became more exclusive.

From 1983 up until 2004, the Pontiac Grand Prix had been widely used in NASCAR, in which as a stock car helped Rusty Wallace secure the 1984 Winston Cup title as well as the 200th and last victory of Richard Petty during the 1984 Firecracker 400 at the Daytona International Speedway.

    Pontiac GTO and later derivatives

The first muscle car? You'll be... the Judge.

GTO: I don’t like being crowded by a couple of punk road-hogs clear across two states. I don’t.
The Driver: I don’t believe I’ve ever seen you… ‘course there’s lots of cars on the road like yours. They all get to look the same. They perform about the same.
GTO: If I wanted to bother, I could suck you right up my tailpipe.
The Driver: Sure you could.

If not for the Firebird, then this may be your best bet for the most memorable Pontiac.

The GTO is Pontiac's front-engined, rear-wheel drive sports coupe, introduced in 1963. The name was inspired by the Ferrari 250 GTO, with GTO (abbreviation for Gran Turismo Omologato, "grand tourer homologated") being the FIA certification for racing in grand tourer class. And the Pontiac car was no slouch in that regard: Pontiac actually had the car homologated by the FIA in 1964, so that it was indeed possible for the GTO to compete in European sports car racing.

The first-generation GTO began production on September 3, 1963, where it was an option package for the Pontiac LeMans, being in coupe, hardtop or convertible form and powered by a 352-348 hp Pontiac V8 engine. The GTO was commonly known as the car that kicked off the muscle car revolution during The '60s, and the first of its kind to be produces in mass volumes. This spawned other marques to build their own takes of the GTO, such as the Oldsmobile Cutlass 442, Buick Skylark Gran Sport and the Chevrolet Malibu SS.

General Motors redesigned the Pontiac GTO in 1968, with a much more curvaceous, semi-fastback styling. The following year, Pontiac has released a new model called "The Judge", named after the comedy routine "Here Come de Judge", used repeatedly on the TV shoe Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. The Judge GTO was intended to be cost-effective, allowing it to compete with its rival, the Plymouth Road Runner and the Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396. While the third-generation in 1973 was very short-lived due to its poor reception to the public and discontinuation.

Meanwhile in Australia, Holden, General Motors' Australian division unveiled the third generation Monaro coupe during the Turn of the Millennium in 2001, though it was not only a domestic model, but also for export internationally and rebadged to its respective countries: the Vauxhall Monaro in the United Kingdom, the Chevrolet Lumina in The Middle East and mostly as the Pontiac GTO in the United States. The new-modernized Monaro/GTO utilizes GM's LS1/LS2 V8 engine powering from 350-400 hp. Both the GTO and the Monaro ended production for good in 2006.

    • The 2004 GTO first appeared in Underground 2, being one of the very few American muscle cars in the roster. This car was driven by The Wraiths leader and Big Bad Caleb Reece.
    • It plays a critical part in Most Wanted (2005), with the British-badged Vauxhall Monaro joining with the GTO. Said GTO would be the car of Rog during your first encounter in the prologue, whereas the GTO would be Rockport PD's State Cruiser fleet (appears in Heat levels 3 and 4).
    • Not only you get the aforementioned 2000's GTO in ProStreet (which is great in grip and drift anyway) but you also get the 1965 version, which is also the car of the Speed King, Nate Denver.
  • The classic GTO is present in nearly the early Test Drive games. In TD Overdrive, Skeeter Grimshaw drives a custom variant. The 2005 GTO would be in place instead for Test Drive Unlimited.

    Pontiac Solstice and derivatives
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pontiac_solstice.jpg

"I once drove off the road, screaming, at 80mph. Why? I was in love. When love turns blind, men do irrational things. As far as healthy, loving relationships go, the one presaging my off-highway excursion was a malignant tumor wrapped in an iron lung. I imagine that owning a Pontiac Solstice GXP is a similar affair. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury; the prosecution calls her a “femme fatale on wheels.” I ask you: how could something this beautiful be so damn dangerous?"
Jonny Lieberman, The Truth About Cars, Pontiac Solstice GXP Review

The Pontiac Solstice is a two-seater sports car manufactured between 2005 to 2010, usually sold either as a convertible, a hardtop or a coupe (the latter two were available in 2009). Its exterior was based on its 2002 concept, which preceded it. It was the first ever two-seater of the brand since the discontinuation of the Pontiac Fiero in 1988.

Initially, it's powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.4 L Ecotec inline-4 engine producing 177 horsepower with 166 lb⋅ft of torque. Its powerful version called the Solstice GXP debuted in 2006 and became available a year later, now being powered by a newer 2.0 L turbocharged inline-4, capable of producing nearly 100 horsepower more than its original.

The Solstice utilized the GM Kappa platform which was shared by its General Motors counterparts such as the Saturn Sky, Opel GT and Daewoo G2X.

Video Games
  • Unusual for a rally car, has the Solstice show up in DIRT games, usually pulled out from Formula D;
    • It shows up in Colin McRae: DiRT 2, using Rhys Millen's Formula D-spec Solstice as a Trailblazer car (with its signature Red Bull livery by default). Jayde Taylor drives this during the rally disciplines.
    • DiRT 3 has Darren McNamara's 2010 Formula D-spec Falken-sponsored Saturn Sky as a Downloadable Content Gymkhana car. It returns in Showdown as a Hoonigan car. Being a RWD car, it makes sense that its capable of drifting.
  • The very first Driver: San Francisco mission "Prove It", show John Tanner proving to his partner Tobias Jones his ability to shift to another car.
