Trivia / Kamen Rider Revice

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Wataru Hyuga portrays both Daiji and his inner demon Kagero.
    • This is the case for some of the Chameleon Deadman's disguises and the people he impersonates.
    • Mei Hanakawa portrays both Hana and her inner demon in Girls Remix.
    • Yuji Nakata pulls triple duty as main suit actor for both Evil and Live, and Present!Masumi's physical self.
    • Shingo Fujimori voices Chic from Birth of Chimera and Battle Familia, in addition to the majority of the Drivers and Vistamps.
    • Kenjiro Tsuda voices Vail, along with the Vail and Demons Drivers and the Kuwagata and Crimson Vistamps.
    • Danki Sakae is suit actor for the Wolf Deadman, Vail's demon form/Crimson Vail, Over Demons (II), and Chic.
    • Subaru Kimura voices Vice and plays as himself.
  • Actor Allusion: Part of the Ryō Horikawa voiced Juuga Vistamp’s announcement in the Revice Driver is “Over Nine”, referring to the memetic line delivered by Horikawa’s most famous role.
  • Actor-Inspired Element:
    • In a very interesting case, most of the karate Sakura uses in-series was taught to Ayaka Imoto by Kentaro Maeda (Ikki), who holds a second degree black belt.
    • Akaishi's penchant for quoting proverbs was requested by Jun Hashimoto himself after reading the script for #18.
  • Actor-Shared Background:
    • Hiromi uses the Miyagi Prefecture slang gaga to refer to his mother when he's wondering aloud. Junya Komatsu is from Miyagi Prefecture, specifically Ishinomaki (which is also the hometown of Shotaro Ishinomori).
    • Lovekov, who's a member of the Igarashi family by virtue of being Sakura's demon, is played by Mutsumi Igarashi, who's an actual bearer of the surname.
    • Happy Spa has a poster of Yokohama F.C. (who is also one of the show's sponsors) footballer Kazuyoshi Miura on one of its walls, with Ikki fanboying over meeting Miura himself in the final episode. Kentaro Maeda is a huge fan of Yokohama F.C.
  • Cast the Runner-Up:
    • Mei Hanakawa had initially auditioned for the role of Sakura Igarashi, but due to her age she was cast as Aguilera.
    • Junya Komatsu likewise initially auditioned to play the role of Ikki, but was turned down due to his age of 27 being judged too old for a lead. His passionate performance however led to the writers promoting Hiromi from a one-off intended to die in the first episode to a major character.
  • Content Leak:
    • A standard fare for every series, but due to the fact that Kamen Rider Saber + Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger Super Hero Senki is double billed with a surprise Bonus Episode interquel of the series, moviegoers have actively tried to leak footage/audio from the screening, which includes the first look at Revice's Kamen Rider Decade-based Megalodon Genome form. Toei has attempted to take down the aforementioned videos in order to discourage piracy.
    • An IR blaster can be used to datamine the sounds on the Demons Driver, spoiling dozens of interactions with unreleased Vistamps. In particular, the existence of Kamen Rider Over Demons was leaked over a month before its official teasers in magazines by spoofing the matching Vistamp.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: Televi-Kun magazine's December 2021 issue (published in end-October 2021) features Julio's Wolf Vistamp as a "Jackal" Vistamp unique to Evil that he uses for his Jackal Genome, despite the Jackal Vistamp he uses actually being originally Revice's. Its description even describes the Jackal as a "wolf-like creature", for added irony.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Subaru Kimura hated his dialogue for the first two episodes to the point that nothing he says in the final products was in the script.
    • In an interview, Wataru Hyuuga shares his confusion with the direction his character Daiji took during the second half of Revice, commenting on how the others characters repeatedly told Daiji to "Get it together", something even Wataru wanted him to understand.
    • Hanta Kinoshita both regrets the Insistent Terminology of calling the Aliens Among Us and the Half-Human Hybrids born from their DNA "devils" (believing in retrospect, they should’ve been called "Giffkind" after the reveal) and naming Over Demons that, in spite of it being a different Rider in the final product.
  • The Danza: Though his name is never spoken on-screen, Shinta (the failed Chimera Driver candidate in Birth of Chimera) is played by Shinta Takaiwa.
  • Inspiration for the Work:
    • Head writer Hanta Kinoshita cites Norman Stanfield from The Professional as the inspiration for the Chameleon Deadman.
    • Kentaro Maeda cites Izuku Midoriya/Deku from My Hero Academia for his performance as Ikki, with Ikki's interactions with his siblings based on Tatsuya Kashiwagi from the drama Hitotsu Yane no Shita.
    • Wataru Hyuga cites Loki from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as his inspiration for his performance as Kagero.
    • The official production notes for #36 state that Aguilera's fighting style was modeled on Muhammad Ali's; it even quotes his catchphrase "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee".
  • Irony as She Is Cast: Ayaka Imoto was born in 2003, yet she's the youngest in the Igarashi family while Wataru Hyuga was born in 2004 and was depicted as her older brother.
  • Magnum Opus Dissonance: The production team consider Hikaru’s transformations into Over Demons a Signature Scene of the series that highlights everything great about it. Opinion from the fandom, however, is that the moment is unearned (since Hikaru is far from a fan favourite, having bottomed out a popularity poll) and poorly staged, essentially encapsulating everything wrong with the show.
  • Milestone Celebration: This series marks the 50th anniversary of Kamen Rider.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: The official episode page for #18 has an image of Olteca and a fellow cultist standing beside a row of mannequins with the Giff Stamp, but the episode itself has no such scene. This would actually be a scene present in the following episode instead.
  • Off-the-Shelf FX:
  • Orphaned Reference: Orteca's Deadman form being modeled on Doctor Shinigami is a remnant of earlier story drafts, where the character was going to be a Mad Doctor type villain.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Mutsumi Igarashi substitutes for Nana Hayashimoto as the Queen Bee Deadman's suit actor in #17.
    • Yurito Mori substitutes for Atsuki Morinaga as Young Ikki in #25 and #41.
    • Yuya Nawata takes over from Yuji Nakata as Kamen Rider Evil's suit actor in #26, due to Kagero becoming Daiji's Enemy Without. He reprises the role for Revice Forward.
    • Eitoku replaces Yuji Nakata as Live's suit actor for Revice Forward, due to Nakata being busy with Kamen Rider Geats.
    • Masashi Takada replaces Shogo Teramoto as Orteca's suit actor for Juuga VS Orteca, due to Teramoto being busy with Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger.
  • Playing Their Own Twin: Kazuya Tanabe plays both Yujiro Wakabayashi and his twin brother Yuichiro from Final Stage.
  • Production Posse:
    • Teruaki Ogawa (Sotoumi in Birth of Chimera), Satomi Hirose (Kazumi), and Kane Kosugi (Azuma) previously starred together in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger as Sasuke/Ninja Red, Tsuruhime/Ninja White, and Jiraiya/Ninja Black respectively, with Seiji Takaiwa (Kousei) and Rie Murakami (a fleeing civilian) serving as Ninja Red and Ninja White's respective suit actors.
    • Subaru Kimura (Vice), Sakurako Okubo (young Yukimi), Tetsuji Sakakibara and Hiroya Matsumoto (Brachio Deadman hosts), and Hiroshi Kamiya (As Himself) all had roles in Uchu Sentai Kyuranger as the equipment voice, Hammie/Chameleon Green, Spada/Kajiki Yellow and Hoshi Minato, and Shou Ronpo/Ryu Commander respectively. Both Kyuranger and Revice were produced by Taku Mochizuki as well.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • Much like the character he plays, Noritaka Hamao (George) is a big fan of Kamen Rider, particularly liking Kamen Rider Kuuga and Kamen Rider V3 (even becoming an actor because of the franchise itself). He has stated that he gets excited when a Kuuga director comes out to direct Revice. He even posts up his large collection of a specific series on his Twitter whenever a Genome based on said series' main Rider premiers on the show.
    • Kentaro Maeda (Ikki) has stated that his favorite Rider is Kabuto.
    • Wataru Hyuga (Daiji) comments in this article that his favorite series are Kamen Rider OOO and Kamen Rider Den-O.
    • Hayata Seki (Orteca) is a fan of villainous Riders like Shadow Moon and Ouja. Now he gets to play a villain who becomes a Kamen Rider.
    • Miku Itō (Lovekov) is openly known to be a huge tokusatsu fan, with her favorite Rider being Den-O.
  • Prop Recycling:
    • The Condor Vistamp, as well as Revice's Condor Genome, is a Palette Swap of the Eagle Vistamp. Fittingly, this is due to it representing Kamen Rider Joker in contrast to Kamen Rider Double. The CGI for its Genomix, meanwhile, reuses Kamen Rider Jin's wings.
    • Vice Brachio Genome reuses the Kong Genome suit, but with a remolded helmet, shoulder pads, and hip armor.
    • In #11, the three Deadmen in the Cold Open are from remodeled Jarnake Saucer, Envy Chiruda and Kazemi suits from Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger.
    • The Sabertiger Deadman reuses the Cheetah Deadman's upper body, arms, and hands, as well as the Phase 2 Kong Deadman's lower body.

      • During the events of the Girls Remix special, Hana is possessed by her Inner Demon and transforms into Kamen Rider Dark Aguilera, which is a monochrome black and white version of the Aguilera suit, with a different visor on the helmet.
    • The Hell Gifftarian is a retool and repaint of Asmodeus, the main villain in Super Hero Senki.
    • Akaishi’s Giffdemos form retools and repaints Diablo’s suit from Kamen Rider: Beyond Generations, but adds a new head, chest armor and a tail. He later gains access to Gigademos, which is his Giffdemos form painted red.
    • The Demons Army Corps troops used the same helmet designs from Demons and Over Demons, but adds either a orange or yellow circle eye, and uses the chest armor from the ZECTroopers over a similar Kamen Rider Vail suit.
    • Like Aguilera, Destream also reuses different Rider parts:
      • His base form reuses the suit of Kamen Rider Century, but the armor on the lower arms and shins are repainted. His helmet also reuses the same helmet mold as Demons.
      • His Croco Wizarolling is a repaint of the Demons Digzon.
      • His Komodo Dragonic Heat is a repaint of Another Ryuki's dragon head gauntlet.
      • His Kong Astro Breakers reuses Vice’s Kong Genome gauntlets.
    • Crimson Vail is a major retool of the Jack Revice suit, with the spikes on the left side painted red, the chest gaining a new chest design, a red painted Buddy Buckle, and the head modified to resemble Vail. • Chic's design is a combination of the Edison and Khufu Crispers'.

  • Real-Life Relative:
    • Junpei's parents in Revice Legacy are portrayed by suit actors Hirofumi Fukuzawa and Naoko Kamio, who are married.
    • Kousei, a fleeing civilian, and Shinta in Birth of Chimera are played respectively by Seiji Takaiwa, his wife Rie Murakami, and their son Shinta.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot:
    • Hiromi's presumed death and subsequent replacement as Kamen Rider Demons appears to owe partially to the actor going to do other projects, per his actor's Instagram.
    • After one of Mei Hanakawa's male co-stars (whose identity is unknown) sexually harassed her on-set, planned scenes with Hana/Aguilera and the actor's character were cut. The filming schedule was also altered so that the two would not be on set together.
  • Reality Subtext: #19 reveals Hiromi was the weakest of his batch of recruits and was going to quit before Wakabayashi encouraged him, a reference to how he was originally going to die in #1 following his failure to transform. The same also applies to George telling him the Demons Driver wasn't originally meant for him to use.
  • Recycled Script: Revice revisits the final battle between Desast and Ren, where a Kamen Rider has a final battle with a dying, recurring villain, twice. Once between Kagero and Daiji, set in an abandoned warehouse, and the other being between Vail and Genta, having a sombre J-Pop song play during their battle not unlike how a sombre J-Pop song played during Desast and Ren's final battle. Curiously enough, the episodes for the latter's case are 1 apart (Revice Episode 42 and Saber Episode 43)
  • Recycled Set: The training simulation in #17 is reused from Satellite Zea's.
  • Refitted for Sequel: According to an interview with director Takayuki Shibasaki, a proposed idea for Kamen Rider Saber was to include a public bath, but was cut due to the COVID-19 Pandemic with only a minor reference making it through. Here, we have the main character's family owning and running a public bath themselves.
  • Role Reprise: As expected of an anniversary season. Interestingly, aside from Touma (being the previous protagonist), this is the first Anniversary-related series that has not had a past Main Rider return.
    • Kamen Rider Faiz: Naoya Kaido/Snake Orphnoch.
    • Kamen Rider Double: Ryu Terui/Kamen Rider Accel and Akiko Narumi.
    • Kamen Rider Wizard: Rinko Daimon.
    • Kamen Rider Gaim: Hideyasu Jonouchi/Kamen Rider Gridon and Oren Pierre Alfonzo/Kamen Rider Bravo.
    • Kamen Rider Drive: Genpachiro Otta and Rinna Sawagami.
    • Kamen Rider Ghost: Kanon Fukami/Kamen Rider Kanon Specter.
    • Kamen Rider Ex-Aid: Poppy Pipopapo/Kamen Rider Poppy.
    • Kamen Rider Build: Sawa Takigawa.
    • Kamen Rider Zi-O: Tsukuyomi/Kamen Rider Tsukuyomi.
    • Kamen Rider Zero-One: Izu/Kamen Rider Zero-Two and Yua Yaiba/Kamen Rider Valkyrie.
    • Kamen Rider Saber: Touma Kamiyama/Kamen Rider Saber, Mei Sudo, Rintaro Shindo/Kamen Rider Blades, Kento Fukamiya/Kamen Rider Espada, Ryo Ogami/Kamen Rider Buster, Sora Ogami, Ren Akamichi/Kamen Rider Kenzan, Tetsuo Daishinji/Kamen Rider Slash, Sophia/Kamen Rider Calibur, Yuri/Kamen Rider Saikou, Reika Shindai/Kamen Rider Sabela and Ryoga Shindai/Kamen Rider Durandal.
  • Spoiled by the Merchandise:
    • The DX Demons Driver is vulnerable to being exploited with an IR blaster, causing it to prematurely expose the existence of Kamen Rider Over Demons long before any official reveal due to all of the sounds for its interactions being stored on the unit.
    • An attempt was made to avoid this with the Vail Driver by not opening listings for the unit until the day of Destream's debut. However, because DX toys are used for close-ups, viewers were able to correctly identify empty sockets on the unit that would later be used for the Destream Driver's parts.
    • Episode 36 has Tamaki attempting to transform with the Buffalo Vistamp... However, the Buffalo Vistamp has the outline of OOO on it while all the other primary Rider Vistamps have their own unique outline... This all but concludes that it was a Bait-and-Switch as Vail steals the Buffalo Vistamp, leaving the stage for Hana to transform. This exact same thing happened when Masumi shows up with a Week Endriver and a Tricera Vistamp, with that having Agito's outline and not a unique Rider outline, and so, Vail steals that as well before he has a chance to transform.
  • Underage Casting:
    • George Karizaki is 28 years old, but his actor Noritaka Hamao was 21 at the time of filming.
    • Wataru Hyuga was 17 years old by the time the series premiered while his character Daiji Igarashi is implied to be older than him, since he's Sakura's older brother and an employee of Fenix. According to Kentaro Maeda, Daiji was born in 2001, thus making him 20 when the series starts.
  • Throw It In!: According to Subaru Kimura, a majority of Vice's lines in the first two episodes were ad-libbed, because he hated the scripted dialogue. After that, the writers simply left placeholders for him to improvise in subsequent episodes.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • An idea which made it to early promotional material had Revice take place in a world where the past Kamen Riders existed as TV shows ala Heisei Generations Forever and Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger. In the end, it was decided to stick with the Gokaiger-style Shared Universe so as to make crossovers like the Early-Bird Cameo in Saber's Special Issue easier to do. However, that doesn't stop George from showing off a collection of Kamen Rider merchandise every now and then.
    • Junya Komatsu had auditioned unsuccessfully for Kamen Rider three times before landing the role of Hiromi Kadota, his first try being all the way back in 2013 (presumably for a role in Gaim).
    • According to a tweet from Kinoshita, Hiromi was planned to die in the first episode following his failure to transform into a Kamen Rider; he ended up surviving due to the staff being impressed by his actor Junya Komatsu's audition.
    • Bandai initially released a DX Demons Driver preview video that featured a much lighter Computer Voice (voiced by an unknown actor), before replacing it with a deeper version (voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda) that is more accurate to what was used in the show.
    • According to the official website, the series was originally conceived as a "post-COVID-19 Pandemic road trip" story where the protagonist would explore a new era in the aftermath of the pandemic, with a theme of "moving forward". However difficulties from the pandemic itself made it difficult to execute, resulting in it being changed to a family-themed drama, reflecting how lockdowns have have allowed families staying together more opportunities to bond with each other.
    • Per word of Kinoshita, via a tweet, when the first production meeting for the season occurred, he made an attempt to let the lead character for this season be female. Toei laughed it off and said “no” in a matter of seconds.
    • A scene in #16 where Demons fights Olteca was filmed, but was dropped from the final cut for unknown reasons.
    • Hiromi was going to give George a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown in #21, but it was changed to him faltering at the last moment to better reflect the complex relationship between the two.
    • The three Deadmans executives originally had different backstories and cover jobs:
      • An interview before the season's release mentioned that Aguilera wanted revenge against Fenix for using her parents in human experimentation. By the time of the final product, there's no indication of this whatsoever.
      • According to an interview with producer Taku Mochizuki, Tamaki/Julio was initially conceived as a police officer.
      • Olteca's character profile on the official site originally stated he had a daytime cover job as an unlicensed doctor, but no such allusions appear in the show and this detail was later removed from his description.
    • Kagero's death in #26 was originally supposed to be permanent.
    • According to a tweet by Kinoshita, He originally planned to have the Igarashi Family being raised by a single mother, as he used his own family as a model but later that idea was scrapped and he went with a family of five with a father suggestion instead.
    • There were also plans for Yukimi Igarashi to be killed in the first episode, but the idea was scrapped due to the show's theme being about family and not revenge.
    • Both Julio and Aguilera were originally supposed to die in the second arc, with Julio being killed by Orteca and Aguilera being ultimately sacrificed to Giff. Kinoshita, however, decided exploring how two of the series' primary villains would live with the weight of their past crimes would be far more engaging, leading to both getting full redemption arcs instead.
    • The Week Endriver was designed as a mass-produced belt, that would’ve had the Red Shirt Army using a bear Vistamp.
    • Hiromi was supposed to be Over Demons, but the writers decided to place more focus on the Ushijima Family, leading to Hikaru inheriting the mantle.
    • Noritaka Hamao auditioned for a role as early as Zi-0, but was told that the show was about to start production by the time he tried to audition for a part.
