Mythology Gag / Kamen Rider Revice

Go To

General

  • As shown in the trailer and magazine promotions, the Vistamps and resulting "Genome" forms reference past Kamen Riders. While some don't copy their powers similarly like past legend devices, the suits and Revice Driver announcements still take after them:
    • While there is no Genome introduced for the toy exclusive Kamen Rider 1-based Hopper Vistamp as of writing, its quote in the Revice Driver references the very first line of the series' theme song.
      "Approaching Hopper! Henshin!"
    • The Megalodon Vistamp gives Revi and Vice helmets with Decade's stripes and Revi has his "X" chestplate, with the Revice Driver quoting Tsukasa's Catchphrase and the Decadriver's signature stammering. Even better, one of the Japanese words for 'hunter' is 'karyudo' furthering the Catchphrase reference.
      "Just a passing-through h-h-h-hunter!"
    • The Eagle Vistamp is green which references the Cyclone Half and gives the duo a Genome styled after Double, with a half-and-half color scheme and a "W" crest on both their helmets.
      "Count up your feathers!"
      • The Condor Vistamp is black which references the Joker Half and specifically Kamen Rider Joker. Its phrase puns off Shotaro's favourite "hard-boiled" catchphrase.
        "I'm settling this bird-wild style!"
    • The Mammoth Vistamp gives Revice helmets that resembles Den-O Sword Form, but modified in that the "peach leaves" of the visors are now the mammoth's tusks while the middle train track is now the mammoth's trunk. Vice gets rounded shoulders as well as back armor that is based on the chest armor for Den-O Sword Form like when Den-O is in Axe Form.
      "A climax from the trunk!"
    • The Ptera Vistamp gives Revi a Genome that resembles Faiz Accel Form, with the raised shoulder pads remodeled to resemble pterodactyl wings, while Vice becomes a ptera-themed hoverbike with Faiz's red-and-black color scheme.
      "Flying by! Complete!"
    • The Lion Vistamp gives Revice a Kuuga Mighty Form-based Genome with claws and lion mane-like elements added. Its transformation phrase is based on a quote from Yusuke in his first transformation into Mighty Form.
"Please look! At my mighty roar!"
    • The Jackal Vistamp gives Revi a form resembling Action Gamer Level 2 complete with having the Level 1 faceplate on the back of the suit and a pair of raised fins either side of the helmet that resemble jackal ears, along with a smaller version of Ex-Aid's spiky pink hair in the middle. Meanwhile Vice turns into a skateboard, just like Kamen Rider Lazer Level 2's form was a motorcycle. Its announcement is based off Ex-Aid's catchphrase.
      "I'll clear this non-stop!"
    • The Kong Vistamp grants a form based on Fourze Basestates, with two large gauntlets resembling gorilla fists. Its announcement is based off Fourze's catchphrase.
      "It's drumming time!"
    • The Kamakiri Vistamp grants a form based on Gaim Orange Arms, with Revi having a bow based on the Sonic Arrow. Its announcement references/puns off the original form's "Hanamichinote  On Stage!"
      "We arenote  on stage!"
    • The Brachio Vistamp grants a form based on Zi-O, with the hour marks of its clock face shifted down to the mouth to form "teeth". Its announcement references Woz's introductory speeches that heralded the debut of a new form.
"Rejoice! The long-reigning king is born!"
    • While the Kamen Rider Saber-based Kajiki Genome is yet to be revealed, its announcement is based off Touma's catchphrase.
"This ending is for the waves to decide!"
    • The Neo Batta Vistamp grants a form based on Rising Hopper. Its announcement references the catchphrase that follows one of Aruto's jokes.
      "It must be~ Revice!"
    • The Kangaroo Vistamp grants a form based on Build. Its announcement references Sento's catchphrase.
"The punch of victory has been decided!"
    • The Tricera Vistamp grants a form based on Agito. Its announcement references the tagline for Agito:
      "Awaken! Triceratops!"
    • The Hashibirokō Vistamp grants a form based on Hibiki. Its announcement references Hibiki's catchphrase:
"I can endure it without moving!"
    • The Buffalo Vistamp grants a form based on OOO. Its announcement references Eiji's quote:
"I wish I had the guts of tomorrow!"
    • The King Crab Vistamp grants a form based on Blade. Its announcement references the Category King cards and Blade's King Form:
      "Mark of Category King!"
    • The Oomukade Vistamp grants a form based on Kabuto. Its announcement references the Kabuto Zecter's finisher announcement:
      "One hundred! Rider Kick!"
    • The Octopus Vistamp grants a form based on Drive Type Speed. Its announcement references Shinnosuke's pre-battle catchphrase:
      "Let's go for a tangle!"
    • The Kurosai Vistamp grants a form based on Ghost Ore Damashii. Its announcement references the Ghost Driver's standby loop, "Batchiri mina~!":
      "Perfectnote  Stab!"
    • The Komodo Vistamp grants a form based on Ryuki. Its announcement references the series' catchphrase:
"Those who do not fight are not alive!"
  • Kamen Riders Evil/Live, Demons, and Jeanne reuse the franchise's long-running recurring theme of Bat, Spider, and Cobra baddies, except this time as full Riders.
  • Aguilera's red dress is a reference to the Great Leader of Shocker, whose most iconic outfit is a red cloak, while her Deadman form is one to Wasp/Bee Woman, the very first female monster in the franchise.
  • Olteca and Julio's Deadman forms are references to Shocker generals Dr. Shinigami and Colonel Zol, whose demon forms were modeled respectively on a squid and wolf.
  • Amahiko's crippling dependence on other people to make the most of his abilities as the Planarian Deadman mirrors his Vistamp's basis, Chaser and how his powers only really started evolving once Chase was killed and Gou Shijima was forced to begin using them instead of their intended user.
  • The Giff Juniors' skeletal motif is based on the Combatmen, the grunts of Shocker.
  • All Deadmen share three types of lower bodies (mammalian, reptilian, insectoid) that almost always clashes with their species (e.g., the Rex Deadman has a mammalian lower body), as a reference to Gel-Shocker's composite Kaijin.
  • The Gifftarian's purple color scheme and status as an Elite Mook is a reference to the Gel-Shocker Combatmen from the original series.
  • Daiji-possessed-by-Kagero is referred to in the scripts as "K-Daiji", an allusion to how Ryotaro — depending on which Imagin was possessing him — was referred to as "M-Ryotaro", "U-Ryotaro", etc.
  • The exact means by which the Demons Driver functions is a retread of the Leangle Buckle; both are used by spider-themed Riders that merge the user's DNA with a spider-themed Monster of the Week, and have crippling flaws that cause it to actively work against the user's own interests. Additionally, both Drivers draw out their full potential when paired with a psychopath, since the monsters inhabiting them have similar personalities and like attracts like.
  • Lovekov's name and cobra motif, along with her color scheme brings to mind Cobra Man.
  • The Libera Driver's stammering ("Ja-Ja-Ja-Jeanne!/"Da-da-da-da~n!") plays out in a tune similar to Beethoven's Symphony Number 5, just like Ghost's Beethoven Damashii ("Ja-Ja-Ja-Jannn!").
  • Fenix director Hideo Akaishi wears black gloves with a white suit, similar to Apollo Geist's human form.
  • The leader of Weekend is revealed to be Professor Karizaki, a.k.a. George's father, shown to be wearing a mask and a hat. This isn't the first time the parent of a major character is revealed to be Not Quite Dead and wearing a similar getup, as seen with Shroud. Amusingly enough, he resurfaces during the arc wherein Jack Revice, a form similar in some ways to FangJoker, debuts, and his mask's black and white halves correspond to FangJoker's color scheme.
  • The design of the Thunder-Gale Vistamp Ikki and Vice use to transform into their Revice Super Fusion form is based on the Typhoon, the transformation device of the first Kamen Rider, Ichigo. In addition, their Transformation Sequence is a direct homage to the Double Riders themselves.
    • The transformation involving a previous, rampaging form cracking open to reveal the true final form also brings to mind Kamen Rider Agito's Shining Form emerging from inside Burning Form.
  • Invincible Jeanne's name, long hair and transformation announcement of "Hyper Libera Up!" all bring to mind Hyper Muteki Gamer, another long-haired Super Mode with heavy emphasis on invincibility.
  • Being a Rider system created by and for a big Rider Fanboy, Kamen Rider Juuga is a big homage.

In-series

  • Episode 1:
    • The Downer Beginning of this series which takes place 50 years prior features a group of archaeologists being killed in an excavation site in South America after discovering the first Vistamp that unleashed a great evil echoes that of the Gurongi's revival in the first episode of Kuuga.
    • When Ikki grabs and dons the Revice Driver, George says "Hey... hey... hey, hey, hey!" with the exact same inflection and timing as the Wizardriver when Haruto uses Flame Style.
    • When Ikki is about to transform, George tells him what to do while striking Kamen Rider 1's Henshin pose.
  • Episode 2:
    • Minor, but Daiji ends up quoting Ankh as he tosses him the Eagle Vistamp
      Daiji: "Brother, use this!"
    • Vice ends up performing W's signature pose after he and Ikki transform into the Eagle Genome.
    • Ikki pulls a reverse contract signing with Vice, invoking the deals done between Imagin and humans. It could also be seen as a nod to Eiji convincing Ankh to allow him to transform whenever he wants to, rather than simply when Ankh wants to.
      • Likewise, Ikki refusing to transform until Vice apologizes for his behaviour is something that Ryotaro did on Momotaros very early on in Den-O.
  • Episode 3:
    • Twice in the same episode, Vice botched two past riders catchphrases in a way similar to Sougo screwing them up.
Eagle (Double) Genome: "We're one in two!"note
      Mammoth (Den-O) Genome: "I... Am Vice."note
    • As the Mammoth Genome is first used, the 'eyes' of the visor slide down akin to how the eyes of the Den-O Riders appear after they transform. Meanwhile Vice ends up performing Momotaros' famous pose during said transformation.
    • The mystery of the Kong Vistamp user brings to mind the Chameleon Zodiarts, fitting given the Vistamp is based on Fourze himself.
  • Episode 5:
    • The Lion Deadman is one walking reference to Kamen Rider OOO; its red mane, yellow upper body and green insectoid lower body brings to mind the Tatoba Combo, and it has Gatakiriba's Doppelgänger Spin and Tajador's fire bolts as part of its powers. Its contract holder using it to expose injustice also brings to mind the Batta Yummy, who played a similar role.
    • The scene where George practices snapping the culprit's neck is broadcast at exactly 9:13 AM when the episode first aired, making it a subtle nod at Kusaka's infamous death by Neck Snap.
  • Episode 7:
    • Vice complains that his Jackal form looks lame, something that offends George so much that he refuses to give the Vistamp to Ikki until they take it back. There's something amusingly meta about an argument about suit design erupting over the Ex-Aid-themed form, when the show itself is notoriously divisive in that regard.
    • Tekken makes an appearance this episode just like it did in Ex-Aid. Additionally the user of the Cheetah Vistamp is a doctor, calling back to the famous.
  • Episode 8:
    • When Revi and Vice’s Kong Genome appears, George yells "Plot Twist kitaanote !" while doing Fourze’s associated pose.
    • Demons' Genomix powers also bring to mind another reference to Fourze, namely a biological version of Fourze's use of Modules.
    • The Bat Vistamp grants Evil the ability to emit disorientating sonic waves, much like another bat-themed Rider's Nasty Vent.
  • Episode 9:
    • George saying that the Kamakiri Vistamp is most suited to fighting Evil is an allusion to Gaim's subplot featuring a similar situation where Mitsuzane performed a Face–Heel Turn and attempted to murder his brother. For bonus points, Kamakiri Genome wields the Sonic Arrow, while Evil's weapon is a sword; this essentially recreates the fight between Takatora/Zangetsu and Mitsuzane/Zangetsu Shin, only with the weapons swapped.
    • While not intentional, Kagero taking over Daiji's body and the debut of Kamen Rider Evil Jackal Genome brings to mind Emu's M personality and Parado. Coloring wise, he invokes Genm.
  • Episode 10:
    • The three Brachio Deadmen (Type-A, B, C) fusing into one (Type-Union) is an allusion to Kamen Rider Zi-O Trinity which is the fusion of Kamen Riders Zi-O, Geiz and Woz (or, considering that one of Scammers who are their contract holders is female, Tsukuyomi; a shout-out to Novel: Kamen Rider Zi-O where she substitutes for Woz for the form).
  • Episode 11:
    • As a Dynamic Entry, Ikki and Daiji perform an untransformed Rider Double Kick on the Planarian Deadman; the way the kick was shot and Vice's Lampshading make the reference clear.
    • Sakura failing her initial transformation using her Driver likely nods to Mari failing to use the Faiz Gear in Kamen Rider 555. As a bonus, both the Libera Driver and the Faiz Gear involve pushing the Transformation Trinket 90 degrees downward to transform.
  • Episode 12:
    • As part of her finisher on the Phase 2 Planarian Deadman, Jeanne does a whirlwind kick, which brings to mind Double using Heaven's Tornado to finish off the Cockroach Dopant.
  • Episode 13:
    • Jeanne's finisher with Kujaku Genome features F-Lovekovnote  forming energy peacock wings and tail behind her while she rises into the air, which evokes the image of OOO's Tajadol Combo.
    • A warning sign is posted outside a room George is working in, which shows that security is willing to use lethal force on intruders by means of a Neck Snap. The way said Neck Snap is drawn in seems to evoke Masato Kusaka's death, where he had his neck crushed in a similar manner.
  • Episode 14:
    • George replaces the Giff Stamp with a figurine of Kamen Rider 1 as part of his plan to lure out the Chameleon Deadman, which is a reference to Kamen Rider 1 hiding himself in a buried Nazi treasure chest to ambush Grimreaper Chameleon.
    • The Chameleon Deadman references the Time Jackers' catchphrase after he's pulls off his Kill and Replace scheme.
"As of today, I will be...Yujiro Wakabayashi."
  • Episode 16:
  • Episode 17:
    • The training room where Ikki and Vice trains to master Volcano Rex is a recycled Satellite Zea interior, only with DNA spirals instead of code.
    • The transformation for Volcano Rex Genome is reminiscent of Cross-Z Magma's.
    • George's paper coffee cup has Kamen Rider Kuuga on its sleeve.
  • Episode 18:
    • Vice quotes Mighty Brothers XX's transformation when he reminds Ikki that since they are one and the same, Ikki caring about Vice means that he cares about himself.
    • The Wolf Deadman Riot being a mostly black powered-up form of the Wolf Deadman powered by rage hearkens back to Legeiel Forbidden and Zooous Predator.
  • Episode 19:
    • Hiromi revealing to Ikki and Daiji that his body is at its limit similar to Tachibana telling Kenzaki that his body is falling apart.
    • When the Demons Driver talks to Hiromi, its central display shows a pair of purple eyes, similar to how Krim Steinbelt forms a face on the Drive Driver.
  • Episode 20:
    • Hiromi's transformation pose is reminiscent of Takumi Inui, but the explosions behind him also reflect Gentaro Kisaragi's first transformation into Cosmic States.
    • Hiromi restraining Olteca from behind, allowing Revice to Rider Kick the latter, is a direct homage to 555's finale.
      • The situation also references the Nasca Dopant restraining the Bird Dopant so that W could return her to normal with a finisher, doubly so since both Hiromi and Kirihiko were dying by that point.
  • Episode 21:
    • Olteca's hand motions when activating Batta Scorpion Demons Requiem look very similar to how Tsukasa uses the Decadriver.
    • Hiromi meets his Uncertain Doom by falling off a great height, a fate not unlike Takatora and Utsumi's.
  • Episode 22:
    • This episode has multiple references to Kamen Rider Zero-One:
      • The focus on comedian duos references Aruto's failed dream of being a comedian.
      • The interviewer sports a black shirt and yellow scarf, referencing Aruto's suit as Zero-One.
      • Kūki Kaidan appearing as themselves brings to mind episodes 10 and 11 of Zero-One, which has the actor Shinya Owada appearing as himself in a guest role.
      • Revice Neo-Batta Genome has a splash-screen for its Stamping Finish that resembles the one used for Zero-One's Rising Impact.
      • Jack Revice's transformation sequence generates a huge pool of ink similar in appearance to the pools of black nanomachines the Ark generates in its Rider forms.
    • The Jack Revice form is reminiscent of Double FangJoker Form, with the second half of the Rider duo (Philip/Vice) in control of their shared body rather than the other (Shotaro/Ikki).
  • Episode 23:
    • During Vice's transformation, the text conversation in the background has Vice tell Ikki to witness his fight.
  • Episode 24:
    • After Ikki and Vice get fused together, Ikki's hair and eyes change color to indicate Vice is in control, much like how Imagins possessing people changes their hair and eye color.
  • Episode 25:
    • Vail Kabuto Genome's transformation involves the horn on his left cheek clicking into place, in a manner not unlike Kamen Rider Kabuto's horn upon entering Cast Off Mode. Amusingly enough, he uses the Kabuto (the animal, not the Rider) Vistamp to transform.
  • Episode 27:
  • Episode 28:
  • Episode 30:
    • Ikki hallucinating fighting against the Sabertiger Deadman while he's rampaging against thin air in reality is reminiscent of the Yesterday Dopant's ability to make people repeat their actions from 24 hours ago.
  • Episode 31:
    • The fact that Vice is erasing Ikki's memories every time he uses his powers harkens back to Zeronos' existence being slowly erased every time he transforms.
  • Episode 36:
  • Episode 38:
  • Episode 42:
  • Episode 47:
    • Daiji's suggestion that George seal away all of Masumi's Rider Systems echoes Krim Steinbelt sealing himself and all of his creations within the Drive Pit, though George ultimately refused this suggestion.
  • Episode 48:
    • The reveal that the ten Vistamps used to access Revice's ten basic Genome Changes are based on drawings of ten animals George made as a child gives the Revice Driver system similarities to the logic of Best Matches, another Rider System with seemingly-random combinations partially based on a child's favourite things. In addition, both systems are used as proof of a parent's love towards their child.

Movies and spinoffs

  • Kamen Rider: Beyond Generations

  • Kamen Rider Revice: Koala VS Kangaroo!! Do You Want to Avoid Love at the Wedding?!
    • Once again, a Kangaroo-based form debuts in a Hyper Battle DVD spinoff.

  • Kamen Rider Revice: The Mystery
  • Revice Legacy: Kamen Rider Vail
