Cats

  • Conan is confirmed to be a reference to Conan the Barbarian.
  • Catniss is named after Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist of The Hunger Games. Like her namesake, Catniss is an archer and is eager to volunteer, and she comments on how it's a good day for some "hungry games".
  • Two of the available cats are named Romeo and Juliet, and the Trait of them is "Dynamic Duo", meaning that they're best when paired together. Some of their lines also reference the play: Juliet says "where art thou, Romeo", while Romeo says "Gotta find that balcony..."
  • Robin is Robin Hood, except that he does it backward, stealing from the poor to give to the rich.
  • Mewton is a reference to Sir Isaac Newton; both his name and the fact that his journal entry mentions an apple falling on his head.
  • Fullmetal Alchemist:
    • Edward references Edward Elric, with his journal entry mentioning that he once dreamed that his brother was a suit of armor.
    • Flailtail, meanwhile, is a reference to Alphonse: he looks similar to him, he's summoned through alchemy, and his journal entry says that small cats can crawl into his armor, much like what happens to Al. He also says things including "My brother gave me a second chance" and "Forbidden alchemy brought me here".
  • Dango is a ninja, and one of his lines claims that his special move is "Rasenyan", a reference to the Rasengan from Naruto.
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender:
    • Yangnyan's entry mentions getting an arrow tattooed on her head; her clothing is also somewhat reminiscent of Aang's.
    • Navi's facial expressions are also very similar to Aang, and he has blue tattoos.
    • Yarngirl's journal entry mentions that she mastered the art of yarn bending.
    • Kai says "It's warpaint, not makeup!", which is similar to a line said by Sokka.
  • Benedict is a reference to Sherlock Holmes. He wears the classic deerstalker hat, and both his journal entry ("Elementary, dear Guild Leader") and dialogue ("You see, but do not observe") reference the famous detective. The name Benedict likely refers to the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch played the role of Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series Sherlock.
  • One of Dory's lines is "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee..." which is a quote by Muhammad Ali.
  • Courage is based on Steve Jobs. He looks like him, is rich, has an iPod as an accessory, and his lines are abbreviated versions of some of Jobs' quotes.
  • Little Red Riding Hood:
    • Hood is named after and dresses like the main character, and like her namesake she visits her grandmother.
    • Silver is partially based on the Big Bad Wolf, asking about a girl with the red hood, and mentioning "Big ears? All the better to hear you with, dearie."
  • Dovah is a reference to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. He wears Whiterun Guard armor and the iconic Dragonborn helm, his name means "dragon" in the draconic language from the game, and he even has a little arrow in his knee like many of the guards in the game claim to have happened to them. His journal entries ("Dovah loves being an adventurer - but all good things must come to an end." and "Dovah used to be a happy adventurer, but then he got married") reference the guards' memetic line "I used to be an adventurer like you... but then I took an arrow in the knee" and the popular (though incorrect) theory that this line actually means getting married.
  • Norse Mythology:
    • Thor is, of course, the Norse god Thor.
    • Eric is based on Freyr, being associated with rain and fertility.
    • Fafnir is based on the dragon of the same name.
    • Yule seems to be styled after Odin, having one eye, a spear, and a raven companion.
  • Molotov is named after the Molotov Cocktail, and he's appropriately enthusiastic about explosions.
  • Warcraft:
    • Grubb's appearance and lines (including "kek") are a reference to the orcs from the Warcraft franchise.
    • Azure seems to be based on the Azure Ring Guardian from World of Warcraft.
  • Kai is based on the character of the same name from Ōkami. They look similar, and both are shapeshifters; the Castle Cats one also is mentioned to enjoy taking the form of a wolf.
  • Harry Potter:
    • Barry is a reference to Harry. He was told "You're a wizard, Barry", and sent off to wizard school; he also wears round glasses like Harry himself, and has a blue glowing figure with antlers much like Harry's stag Patronus. The character was also apparently originally named Barry Pawter.
    • White Widow says the line "Ten points for the head, right?" which is similar to Moaning Myrtle's line, "Let's all throw books at Myrtle, because she can't feel it! Ten points if you can get it through her stomach! Fifty points if it goes through her head!"
  • Scarlet "strives to be the very best Blobmon master of them all", and his clothing and name are similar to the Pokemon protagonist Red. His attack animation in battle is throwing a round object.
  • Blink is "faster than any blue hedgehog could be". Dash also looks visually similar to Sonic, and even has a little companion that looks like Tails.
  • Mego appears to be based on Yugo from Wakfu.
  • Pink may be inspired by the singer P!nk.
  • A Song of Ice and Fire
    • Copper appears to be based on Ygritte, due to her red hair, the mention of having her heart broken, and a raven, which is a common motif in the series.
    • Tom Snow is named after and looks like Jon Snow, and like him, he knows nothing.
    • Leesi is a draconic cat, with lines referencing Daenerys Targaryen, the Khaleesi of the Dothraki.
    • Pete is based on Tyrion Lannister: he's a munchkin like Tyrion is a dwarf, looks somewhat similar to him, and parodies his line "I drink and I know things" ("I drink milk and I know stuff.") He's named after the actor who portrays Tyrion, Peter Dinklage.
  • Maximus is based King Leonidas of Sparta as depicted in 300. His lines include "This is CATANIA!"("This is SPARTA!"), "Careful, I might push you into a bathtub" (like Leonidas pushed Persian messengers into a well), and "I fight better in small groups" (much like the Spartans' smaller numbers).
  • Tea-Rex is a pun based on tea and the Tyrannosaurus rex.
  • Coco, a fashion designer, appears to have been inspired by Coco Chanel, with an appearance similar to Karl Lagerfeld.
  • The Lord of the Rings:
    • Alfa mentions having a "third breakfast", similar to the hobbits' "second breakfast".
    • One of Nyadra's lines is "I am fire! I am...", similar to Smaug's line "I am fire! I am death!"
    • Bloom is an archer like Legolas, and has a hairstyle similar to his film appearance. The name Bloom likely references the fact that Legolas was played by Orlando Bloom.
    • Oakenpaw and Oakenbeard are based on Ents. Oakenpaw is mentioned to be very patient, like Ents are; he also says "They come with axes and fire", like Treebeard says "They come with fire, they come with axes..." Oakenbeard's name meanwhile references Treebeard's.
    • Sting is a Whiskers character probably named after the "burglar" Bilbo Baggins' sword. His necklace glows when dogs are near, much like the sword in LOTR glows when orcs are near.
  • Athea's line "That is so fetch" comes from the film Mean Girls.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy (2014):
    • Oakenpaw is a tree-like character who says "I. Am. Oakenpaw.", just like Groot.
    • One of Rocket's lines is "A raccoon? Why would I be a raccoon?"
  • Quite a few My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic references:
    • Luna Sparkle appears to be based on Luna and Twilight Sparkle, being a winged unicorn like both of them and saying the line "Friendship is magic".
    • Celestia shares the name with the My Little Pony character, says one of her lines ("You've come such a long, long way.") and mentions having had a rainbow tail.
    • Minty Heart looks a lot like the background pony "Minty", being mint-green with pink highlights, and even having a Cutie Mark. She is also summoned by inviting friends to the game.
    • Starsky is named after Princess Skystar from the film, looks a lot like her, and has a line referencing one of the songs.
    • June seems to be based on Fluttershy, since they both are shy, winged but afraid of heights, and prefer spending time with woodland critters.
  • Howard is basically a feline version of Cthulhu - or "Cathulhu", as some merchandise called him.
  • Magic: The Gathering:
    • Redmane is a lion who "travels between worlds", like Ajani Goldmane. It also mentions that he's searching for a "Gathering", and one of his dialogue lines is "I am all tapped out", a reference to one of the game mechanics.
    • Lotus claims that she's the "Black Lotus" and that she's part of the "Mighty Nine", while her book entry mentions that she's banned due to being "too powerful". This is a reference to the famous Black Lotus card and the rest of the Power Nine in MtG, cards that are not allowed in most modes of play due to being too strong.
  • Arthurian Legend:
  • Bunny looks exactly like Sailor Moon. Her name even references the fact that the Sailor Moon character's name Usagi translates to "rabbit".
  • Nessie is based on the Loch Ness Monster.
  • Halley, a cat encased in opal, is likely named after the Halley's Comet Opal.
  • Cleo and Sibuna have an ancient Egyptian vibe and are named after Cleopatra VII and Anubis. Baz is also likely based on Bast/Bastet, and the idea of the pharaoh's curse, while Wadjet is based on the goddess of the same name.
  • Classical Mythology:
    • Dio probably is based on Dionysus, considering the similar name and the fact that she led a clan that was obsessed with "-Grape Juice-".
    • Cassandra is a feline Medusa.
    • Thena is likely named after Athena.
    • Amortina is based on Cupid/Eros.
    • Venus, of course, is a reference to Venus/Aphrodite.
    • Minerva was likely named after Minerva.
    • Calli, a musical cat, was probably inspired by Calliope.
    • Megara appears to have been named after Megara.
    • Selene may be inspired by Selene/Artemis, due to her name and the fact that she's a skilled huntress.
  • Morrigan's name may come from Celtic Mythology. Her line about a delivery service seems to be a reference to Kiki's Delivery Service, since she is a witch.
  • Lumoz appears to be based on the Moth Lamp meme.
  • Khoshek is a reference to the cat Khoshekh from Welcome to Night Vale.
  • Eira says "How high does a maple tree grow? Cut it down and you will never know.", which is a reference to the song "Colors of the Wind" from Disney's Pocahontas
  • Stitch is patched together like Frankenstein's Monster, and Meowstein is even more clearly based on him.
  • Capri is a reference to the dragon Shenron from the Dragon Ball franchise, as she grants a wish when her seven crystal balls are gathered.
  • Beauty and the Beast:
    • Emma hatches from a "Beauty" egg with a rose on it, and having the appearance of the Beast. The yellow dress she wears looks much like Belle's, and her name is probably based on the fact that Belle was played by Emma Watson in Disney's live-action remake.
    • Rich is a narcissist like Gaston, and says "If there's a beast around, I'll slay it." and "No one does quests like Rich."
  • Gatsby and Eve are references to Jay Gatsby and Daisy Fay Buchanan from The Great Gatsby, with Gatsby sharing the same name, and both of them referencing lines said by their respective characters.
  • Jadis is designed and named after Queen Jadis, the White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia.
  • Olivia is based on Oliver Twist. Her name is the feminine version of Oliver, she says to "do the twist", and asks for "one more" firework.
  • Julio seems to be based on Tulio from The Road to El Dorado. Their outfits and names are similar, Julio hatches from the Thieving Egg, and his journal entry mentions that nobody knows whether he's for real or not.
  • Gordon is based on Gordon Ramsay.
  • Amortina's lines reference a few songs: "What's Love Got to Do with It" and "The Best" by Tina Turner, and "Stop! In the Name of Love" by The Supremes.
  • Titania is inspired by and named after the fairy queen from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
  • Lou is based on Lou from Death Stranding.
  • Kate is a reference to Titanic (1997). Her book entry mentions a boat sinking, and she has a line about wanting to be an artist living poor but free (like the character Jack), and the main character of the film was played by Kate Winslet.
  • Iridessa is a cat with rainbow designs, and one of her lines is "Nyan, nyan, nyan~", making her a reference to the Nyan Cat meme.
  • Tufu is a reference to Redwall: he is a sword-wielding mouse who lives at "a temple surrounded by walls of blue stone, where all creatures of the world are welcome", and one of his lines is "All creatures are welcome at the temple of Bluewall."
  • Shen is based on Mushu from Disney's Mulan.
  • Cluck Norris is named after Chuck Norris.
  • The Legend of Zelda:
    • Cluck Norris' journal entry references Cuccos: "Hit a chicken and it will hit back - with a massive army. Not even a fairy bottle will save your precious life points."
    • Vaati is named after the main villain from The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap.
  • Flower, a skunk, is based on the character from Disney's [1].
  • Cosette is likely based on the character of the same name from Les Misérables.
  • Florence, a nurse, is named after Florence Nightingale.
  • Akari is a reference to the character Akari Shinohara from 5 Centimeters per Second. She likes cherry blossoms ("Cherry Blossoms" is the first part of the film), and had a line about how they fall at the speed of "five claws per second".
  • Hop is the Easter Bunny.
  • Nolan is a treasure hunter and teacher who looks a lot like Indiana Jones.
  • Tefiti and Tekah are based on goddesses from Pacific Mythology.
  • Renée is a reference to Bee Movie: she is a bee, named after the actress Renée Zellweger who played the female lead, and says the line "According to all laws of aviation, bees should not be able to fly..."
  • Wendy is based on Peter Pan: she is named after the character Wendy, is forever young, and her hair and wand are like Tinkerbell's.
  • Aery is based on Aries from the Western Zodiac.
  • Tigerbat is a feline Batman, with a similar costume. His real name is Wayne, like Batman's is Bruce Wayne.
  • Ryder is likely based on Kamen Rider, due to his name, his outfit appearance, and the fact that he has a Rider Kick.
  • Justicecat looks like, and has similar powers to, Superman.
  • Overwatch:
    • Iko.N looks like, and has a similar name to, D.Va.
    • Kenshin attempts to say Hanzo's ultimate phrase, "ryuu ga waga teki wo kurau".
  • Red Robin looks a lot like The Falcon. The Falcon's real name is Samuel Thomas Wilson, while Red Robin's is Thomas.
  • Dorothy is inspired by the character of the same name from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Both of them were swept away by a tornado into a different world and had to deal with a wicked witch.
  • Keiko was likely named after the orca who played Willy in Free Willy.
  • Clarkii is a clownfish who has a blue tang for a companion, like Marlin from Finding Nemo. Both characters are assumed to be funny simply for being clownfish. Clarkii mentions not needing to be found, and has trouble pronouncing "anemone", much like Nemo.
  • Crabina has a song about treasure called "Shining", like the crab Tamatoa from Disney's Western Animation/Moana and his song "Shiny".
  • One of Wetbeard's lines is "We need to catch that sparrow!", which likely is a reference to Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean.
  • Steve is based on Steve Irwin, being named after him and having Australian animals as companions.
  • According to his designer, Lewis is a reference to Kokichi Oma from Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony.
  • Skully's "Praise the light!" line is reminiscent of "Praise the Sun" from Dark Souls, and he doesn't trust chests - possibly because they can be mimics, like in the games.
  • Opal mentions that she doesn't think that Gary is a snail, despite the meowing. This sounds a lot like SpongeBob SquarePants' pet snail Gary, who meows.
  • Bill is based on Pennywise from It, and is likely named after Bill Skarsgård, who played him in the 2017 film.
  • Phantom is inspired by the Phantom from The Phantom of the Opera, and says several of his lines.
  • Paytone references Sans from Undertale, both being skeletons named after fonts. Paytone also references some of Sans' lines.
  • Kittysticks is likely based on the champion Fiddlesticks from League of Legends, due to the similar names and the fact that they're both scarecrows with glowing green eyes.
  • Darla is based on the "Baby Shark" song, since she wears a shark costume, her egg is the Baby Shark Egg, and it mentions "that song..."
  • Ferdinand, a cat dressed as a cow, is probably a reference to The Story of Ferdinand.
  • Lucas, who wears a spider costume, is likely named after Lucas the Spider.
  • Cookie is visually similar to the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, and one of his lines is "Beware the Jabberwock, my son", which comes from Through the Looking-Glass.
  • Juan appears to be a reference to the Chupacabra.
  • Wicked:
    • Sabrina is based on Elphaba, saying many of the same lines, being chased by witch hunters, and having been in a love triangle with the Glinda/Fiyero counterparts Hilda and Harvey.
    • Hilda is based on Glina, referencing some of Glinda's lines, being referred to as "the Good", and having been in a love triangle with the Elphaba/Fiyero counterparts Sabrina and Harvey.
    • Harvey is based on Fiyero. Like the other cats, he says some of Fiyero's lines, and was in a love triangle with them.
  • Sabrina is likely named after Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
  • Ratchet is confirmed to be based on Franchise/Ghostbusters, being a paranormal investigator who wears a tank on her back for collecting slime.
  • Marie, like her namesake Marie Curie, researches dangerous chemicals.
  • Ginger is based on The Gingerbread Man.
  • Rudolph is based on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
  • Frosty is a snowman brought to life, like Frosty the Snowman.
  • Frozen (2013)
    • Frosty says one of Olaf's lines; his egg also asks, "Do You Wanna Build A Snowman?"
    • Sandy Claws looks exactly like Elsa, and was born with magical abilities.
  • Peanut is based on The Nutcracker.
  • Eych Tu-o has a line that references the song "Ice, Ice, Baby" by Vanilla Ice.
  • The snowboarding cat Shaun is probably named after the snowboarding Olympic gold medalist Shaun White.
  • Santa Paws and Mrs Paws are based on Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, and Alfie is based on a Christmas elf. Nicholas is also named after Saint Nicholas and wears a Santa suit, but takes more inspiration from The Krampus.
  • Lisa is based on Saint Lucy, since the developers used the hashtags #lucia and #lucy when referring to her, and they posted her image on Saint Lucia's Day.
  • Charlie is inspired by Scrooge from A Christmas Carol and named after the author Charles Dickens.
  • Cleia is based on Princess Leia from Star Wars, both in appearance and saying some of her lines.
  • Kenshin appears to be based on Himura Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin.
  • Cat Patrick and Patricia are inspired by Leprechauns and are named after Saint Patrick.
  • Bubbles references Michael Jackson, as he's referred to as the "king of pop", named after Jackson's chimpanzee, and quotes some of his songs.

Miscellaneous

  • The leader of the Mighty Lions is named Aslan, after the lion from The Chronicles of Narnia.
  • Kyle's Halloween costume is that of a sparkling vampire, like the vampires in The Twilight Saga.
  • During the 2020 Call of Heroes event, Katniss' outfit looks exactly like Saitama's from One-Punch Man.
