Pearls and Flames

Impa takes the final steps in her trial to finally prove herself worthy of wielding the Frog Spirit.

Tropes:

  • Ace Custom: The Guardians of War Impa fights display far more abilities and versatility in combat, and even display some intelligence while they're at it.
  • Breakout Mook Character: Aside from the Battle-Tested Guardian, there are also the Combat-Tested Turret and Warfare-Tested Skywatcher.
  • Human Pincushion: What unnerves Impa about the Guardians of War is the fact that they're covered with weapons that make her think that it has fought and killed Hylians.
  • It Can Think: The Guardians of War aren't just machines with programming, they have enough ability to think for themselves and display tactical behavior in their fight with Impa.
  • Logical Weakness: Go for the Eye being the Guardians' main weakness aside, the Guardians fire out of their eyes meaning that jamming something into their eyes blinds them and keeps them from being able to see as Impa inadvertently finds out.
  • Long Game: The Golden Goddesses set up one after the last encounter with Calamity Ganon to ensure that the cycle of violence with Calamity Ganon finally comes to its end.
  • Mook Chivalry: Impa only fights one Guardian of War at a time.
  • Original Characters: The Combat-Tested Turret and the Warfare-Tested Skywatcher never existed in either The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
  • The Reveal: Tutsuwa Nima reveals that the Great Calamity was inevitable, and was part of a Long Game set up by the Golden Goddesses and Hylia.
  • Rogue Drone: The three Guardians of War are not enslaved by Calamity Ganon because they were hidden away so long ago.
  • Strength Equals Worthiness: Subverted with the spring shrines. Impa thought that this would be the case, but the monks tell her that her having obtained the scales is proof enough. Played straight with the final trial in the sequence, where she fights the battle-hardened Guardians.
  • Tron Lines: The lines on the Guardians of War are orange, hinting that they have no corruption by Calamity Ganon.
  • The Unfettered: The Golden Goddesses have become this, doing anything, including allowing an apocalypse to happen, to finally end the cycle of violence Demise's curse has wrought.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: The Great Calamity was bound to happen because the Golden Goddesses made sure of it. The reason is that this is part of a Long Game to finally end the cycle once and for all.
