The Kindness of the Frog

Impa celebrates her victory in gaining the Frog Spirit with her friends. Link finally gets ready to begin the quest Zelda had told him to begin after freeing the Divine Beasts.

Tropes:

  • Bad Moon Rising: Another Blood Moon rises in this chapter.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: The sacred flames of the four Goddesses, the Golden Goddesses and Hylia, are each a different color.
    • Red for Din.
    • Blue for Nayru.
    • Green for Farore.
    • Gold for Hylia.
  • Convenient Color Change: Paya doesn't just repair the Guardians of War, she also recolors them to be like the Diminutive Guardian sisters.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: The Guardians of War manifest with Impa after she's granted Hylia's Pearl. She at first thinks they're enemies, and then the Battle-Tested Guardian lifts its leg to point at the pedestal, and then Impa realizes they're not her enemy.
  • It Can Think: More than just tactical ability, the Guardians of War know how to communicate with Impa. For example, the Battle-Tested Guardian understands pointing, using its leg to point to the pedestal. Even better, the Battle-Tested Guardian gets impatient and picks Impa up with its foot and places her there.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: The Guardians of War went through the Forgotten Temple and destroyed the decayed Guardians present inside of it while Impa is being blessed by the Goddesses.
  • Power Tattoo: Impa gains one in the appearance of the Frog Spirit.
  • Reclaimed by Nature: The Guardians of War are all overgrown with moss and are scarred by battle. The years of neglect are addressed by Paya who fixes them up.
  • Sacred Flames: The three sacred flames from the Golden Goddesses are present, as is an extra flame for Hylia.
    • Din's Flame is the flame of power. It imbues her body and weapon with the power to ward off anything evil.
    • Nayru's Flame is the flame of wisdom. It gives Impa the ability to harness six Sheikah symbols instead of three, increasing the number of clones she can have and use.
    • Farore's Flame is the flame of courage. It enhances the powers of Impa's Devoted Kodachi, making it stronger and better at creating Razor Wind.
    • Hylia's Flame is the flame of kindness. It brands her with a Power Tattoo of the Frog and tethers the Frog to her soul.
  • Sixth Ranger: Hylia is not a Golden Goddess, but she has ascended herself enough that she now has a sacred flame of her own, and her own Chosen One in Impa.
  • The Sky Is an Ocean: The Frog Spirit's pushes its leg like it's swimming as it flies through the air.
  • Theme Naming: Purah's names for the Guardians of War counterpart their diminutive versions.
    • The Battle-Tested Guardian is named "Cottako", as in Terrako and Cottako. Terracotta is their shared name.
    • The Warfare-Tested Skywatcher is "Amiko", as in Cerako and Amiko. Ceramic is shared name.
    • The Combat-Tested Turret is named "Gilako", as in Argiko and Gilako. The shared name is argil.
  • Tron Lines: Paya uses her powers to effectively infect the Battle-Tested Guardian in the same way Calamity Ganon does, only this time to ensure they wouldn't be corrupted, turning its lines blue.
