A Dark Premonition

Link has dark visions of the fate of the Champions. Paya shows off some newfound skills she learned from her grandmother.

Tropes:

  • Action Film, Quiet Drama Scene: Most of this chapter is a quiet drama, primarily with Link and Paya speaking to each other about their shared trauma.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Link's nightmares about the Champions' fates was only implied in the DLC, as the fights with the phantom blights was born from the deepest parts of his memories. Here, Link has a shown Nightmare Sequence about Urbosa's fate, and tells Paya that he had a similar one about Mipha.
  • Astral Projection: Paya says that the Sheikah learn their fighting skills by projecting themselves into the spirit realm where they learn how to fight directly from their ancestors.
  • Bottle Episode: The only characters that have any presence are Link, Paya, and Impa.
  • Breather Episode: At Paya's suggestion, Link ends up taking a little bit of a respite from the perpetual pressure he's been under trying to free the Divine Beasts. While he turns it down, this chapter is relatively quiet with no tension.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: Paya shows herself as being capable of this, as she conjures multiple clones of herself in Link's home.
  • Evil Former Friend: Paya confesses that she recognized the Yiga Footsoldier's voice as someone who was once a friend to her when she was younger.
  • Harmful to Minors: When Paya was seven years old, she had found the dead body of a Yiga Clan murder victim who had been decapitated.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Link's experiences have started to weigh on him, enough that he's having nightmares about what it was like to be the Champions trying to fight the blights.
  • Thunderbolt Iron: The stardust Paya brought with her to Hateno Village helped with Purah's anti-aging rune.
