Locked Mementos

Link seeks out the researchers in Hateno Village who he hopes will help him find his lost life.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Distillation:
    • Link has the option to upgrade some of his runes in the game by delivering some supplies to Purah. He already has everything he needs, so he gets the upgrades right away and doesn't need to go out of his way to do so.
    • Purah and Symin bought the house that would become Link's home from an eccentric but effective builder named Bolson. They also refurbished it with all of the items and upgrades and lights that are offered by Bolson in the canon game, which includes the mounts on the wall for weapons.
    • Impa gives Link back his Champion's Tunic before he goes to get his memories, when in the game it only happens after he relives at least one of them.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Link's home is much more grand than in the game, and is a lot more like a real home with multiple rooms, an indoor fireplace and chimney, and a full bathroom with a Sheikah technology bathtub that heats the water and designed for the Shrine of Resurrection.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Link comes to Holden and Mara's rescue when they're attacked by monsters during the night. He uses his powers of speed to fire his bow to do so.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Hestu already stated before that he wanted to help Link by helping him find places. Link comes back to cash in on the favor. Hestu gladly obliges and marks Link's map with the locations of the memories.
  • Composite Character: Artist Pikango who helps Link find the locations of the memories in the game doesn't exist in the novelization, so his role is given to Hestu who uses his powers to mark every location of the pictures on his map.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Purah's eccentricity is on full display when she sees Link, where she's immediately jumping for joy and happy to see him, though she also is incensed at Link's logical conclusion that Purah is a child. And then she obsesses over Link and wondering how the Shrine of Resurrection affected him.
  • Foreshadowing: Symin mentions the existence of a strange by talented construction worker named Bolson.
  • Given Name Reveal: Link's full name is revealed as Link Korzem Reshirama.
  • Not So Above It All: Link jumps in on Purah's antics when she requests that he give her a good "SNAP!", even high-fiving her.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: Hestu marking Link's map serves to help him directly find the locations of his memories while sparing him the need to travel around trying to find the memories by location recognition alone.
  • Shout-Out: Link's surname and middle name are respectively an anagram and respelling of Zekrom and Reshiram.
  • Victim of the Week: Holden and Mara only exist to be attacked by monsters and give Link someone to rescue to make him look awesome.
