History of the Zora

Link makes it to Zora's Domain where he faces hostility from Zoras who remember and blame him for Lady Mipha's death. He struggles to remember her and his daughter.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Context Change: In the original game, Link remembers Mipha after staring at her statue, but for some story-driven reason, only when addressing Muzu. This one recontextualizes his memory by having him see both Mipha's statue and his daughter at the same time helping bring back his memories.
  • Adipose Rex: King Dorephan is a giant among the Zora, described as being whale-like and far bigger than any other Zora.
  • Amicable Exes: Mipha and Link are confirmed as having been together in their past, and that they separated but remained close together.
  • Apocalypse How: Another Class 0 apocalypse could occur outside of Calamity Ganon personally, as the torrential and endless rain are threatening to burst the reservoir which would destroy everything downstream.
  • Declaration of Protection: Mipha's Zora Armor, her betrothal gift to Link, is inscribed with I will always protect you. Mipha gave him the same declaration when they last were together on Ruta.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: The Zora are heavily water associated, and are thusly weak to electricity that can separate water into oxygen and hydrogen.
  • Fantastic Racism: Muzu is a Zora who discriminates and his hateful of Hylians, and especially Link who he blames personally for the death of Mipha.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: As with before, Link remembers no one in the domain, including the king and Mipha.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Deconstructed. Link and Mipha had a romance, but she would have outlived him significantly, and that also meant that their daughter would have still been a child when Link died of old age.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Sidon becomes frighteningly angry when Muzu implies that Mipha's relationship with Link and Lady Lochlia were a "mistake".
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Muzu ends up inadvertently calling Lady Lochlia a "mistake".
  • Tell Me About My Father: Mipha anticipated the Lochlia would ask for her father, since Link would not live long enough to see her become a Zora woman, so she kept a diary specifically to chronicle details about Link so that Lochlia could have something about him.
  • Surveillance Drone: One of Cerako's abilities. She can project images back to the Sheikah Slate, and she uses this to help Link get a look at Divine Beast Vah Ruta.
